  1. You should find a factory grommet just off centre in the bulkhead - this should be visible with the PCM unit removed or possibly looking back from the front tunk.
  2. Al, i hope you get the right answer from CQL I remember hids4u did have addiitonal solutions on their website a few months ago - it may be they are out of stock. Perhaps its still worth an email to ask their advice, if nothing else to compare against what CQL tell you. Best of luck
  3. i've not seen any reports of metallic buzzes or rasps at 1500rpm or anywhere close to that - it might be somethign as simple as a loose exhaust heat shield, which just happens to resonate at that frequency / rev range
  4. Al, you have email for those ina similar predicament there are solutions int he form of additional wiring harnesses, or most likely in line resistors to fool the cars diagnostics. In the uk these people are about the best seller, they have fitted loads of kits themselves to all sorts of vehicles - a quick browse through the FAQ and customer reviews section should identify any issues you are likely to experience. www.hids4u.co.uk
  5. powered fromt he normal factory plug on the back of the std bulb - spades slotted into the females of the factory plug on the wires to the ballast box, then the high voltage cables from the ballasts to the hid bulb. using 6000K units - very slightly blue, but not noticeable during driving
  6. I've used TT for years, love the easyuser interface and had no issues at all - there are far too many reports of poor mapping and slow gps connection with other systems (exception being Garmin).
  7. the install in the 987 is easier than the previous 986 - you can even fit the ballast units in the rear cover of the 987 headlight unit, so not drilling of the enclosure is required like on the 986. I put a set in the 986, then removed it, and reinstalled in 987 - never had any issues, no messages on the computer either,
  8. Its the standard muffler, just polished up (very very quickly) with some metal polish
  9. And if they sold the car to you as having Bose, and it hasn't then you want a discount on the purchase price, to the tune of about £500 ! MB dealers sell the Bose badges for £1,15 each !
  10. Its held on by the single bolt underneath which clamps the trim against the twin outlets on the back box muffler. There is also a small bent piece on the frontedge on the top of the trim which hooks onto the seam of the muffler box All trims are stainless, even the Tequipment one from the 550 anniversary
  11. Anyone have the data for the wheel alignments ? My local tyre shop guys have the latest software upgrades for their laser alignment equipment, but it doesn't specifically mention the 987 models; or anything about about differences for 19" wheels and PASM. Thanks
  12. Well i changed the oil anyway - i didn't prefill the oil filter container before refitting, just fitted dry and added 8 litres of oil - restrated engine after letting it settle for a few minutes after filling, and low oil pressure warnign on the OBC. The oil pressure light went out after 2 seconds as you'd expect. Fault will be logged in the diagnostics, but at least i recorded the mileage, and used Porsche approved oil and all the parts were supplied by the dealer. On a side note, the oil i drained out was very clear, with only a slight dark tinge to it, not bad after 10k miles
  13. I did this mod on my old 986 over 18 motnhs ago - it makes quit e a difference to the 986 headlights. I took the retrofit kit out when i sold the car. I recently reinstalled in my 987, which has projector style lenses in the stock headlights - jeez they make even more difference on the 987. So one kit ($500) is serving me on my second car now - bargain!
  14. i got the rubber insulators - four pieces of tape applied around the edges - now it rattles, never did before !
  15. Hmmm perhaps i just posted this in the wrong section as no response ? Oh well,, i will be changing the oil in the morning, got the filter from the Porsche dealer, and my Porsche approved oil arrived mail order yesterday. Easy 30 minutes to change the oil over i guess - won't be disconnecting the battery, will just take the chance that nothing logs on the ECU.
  16. The horizontal crease line of the top left of the damage is fom the aluminium 'bumper' behind the cover - it doesn't look sufficent to jave damaged the bumper bar but maybe worth checking the mounting pieces as they are part of the crash deformation zone. After that exhaust components, headers and engine alignment
  17. Diablo roadster first thought, but the fit on th front bumper is so awful i wouldn't be surpirised if its a kit car.
  18. couldn't agree more - black the way to go, after all thats the colour of the softtop in most case
  19. Shop around - you should be able to get new Dunlops for about £165, so why put used ones on ?
  20. My local OPC has quoted me stupid money to change the oil in my 987S at 10k miles (only £100 less than a full service !!), especially given that the car would be in and on the ramps for the TSB on the pressure relief value in any case. So i'm doing it myself :D using new filter, seal ring and alum crush washer for the drain plug. My only concern is how to prevent the ECU registering a low oil warning (previous BMWs and Mercs have shown this on the dealer diagnostics during routine services). Presumably disconnecting the battery first wil help, but is the low oil warning cuased by the level gauge or by low pressure when restarting the engine. If the latter will filling the oil filter cannister before refitting help ?? Sorry if i sound paranoid, but Porsche GB need no extra excuses not to pay out if the engine goes pop in the future :(
  21. The rear ture width/asect is the same so the sidewall height is the same as with the current 18s on the 986 The fronts will have smaller sidewalls i admit, 235/35 = 82mm versus 225/40 = 90mm Need 19s for visual impact an resale - just a case of which ones, the lightest being the best compromise.
  22. Anyone know the weight (mass) for the following wheel options... 19" Sport Designs 19" Carrera classic 19" CarreraS and how they compare to the 18" TurboIIs on my current 986 Not going with PASM - will never be able to use sport on UK roads, and its an expensive gimick in that case. So the theory is to go for the lightest wheel in an effort to maximise ride quality.
  23. Scouser currently zipping down the full length of Frnace to meet up with the rest of the Porsche Club GB, tour of Spain. Things he'll do to avoid a ferry boat :clapping:
  24. Well servo, i don't have any issues with Zymol based in North Wales, and boy does it rain here. I've tried Rejex, and its pants in the UK weather - it doesn't bead rain water like Zymol, and after a week it doesn't bead at all. I've tried it straight onto the freshly washed paintwork and over cleaner fluid. I'm back to Zymol, which i love - yes you need to apply every 6 weeks, but its less than an hour to do, and HD Cleanse twice a year. I've got loads of polishes and waxes in the garage, all bought through curiosity. I haven't found anyhting that shines or protects like Zymol.
