Fuel Filler Flap Hinge

The solution is BMW part no 51 17 1 970 450. This part is IDENTICAL to the part originally fitted to my 996, consequently fits perfectly. And is slightly cheaper than the Porsche part! -
Needed to fit a new fuel filler flap hinge to my 2002 Targa - plastic on the old one had cracked, resulting in the spring not holding the flap open. Managed to CAREFULLY remove the filler flap and the old hinge (which actually came out in several pieces) without chipping any paint. When I tried to fit the new hinge into the fuel filler recess, I found the new part slightly larger, and as a result won't fit because of where the plastic rivet holding the fuel filler cap strap is located. The hinge is part number 997 201 063 00, sourced from my local Porsche Centre (this part supercedes 996 201 063 00), and seems to be universal across 986 / 987 / 996 & 997 models. Speaking to them, they have not experienced any problems with this part before. I could file away part of the hinge (it's plastic so this should be possible), or I could remove the plastic rivet securing the fuel cap strap, drill a new hole and refit (prefer not to do this). Has anyone come across this issue? And what solutions?
