  1. That auction is long closed, and you can't see any detail. You don't happen to have the seller's name or any contact information, do you? I couldn't find anything similar by searching eBay.
  2. We have the engine rattle that's in the Top Issues forum, so that's on the list already.
  3. I assume you mean up high, at the center mirror? Will have to look at that. I've sort of liked having the V1 down low, on the dash. Is there room up there to hide the V1 power adapter? There was plenty of room up in the A8's map light/sunroof controls/sunroof motor area, but I wouldn't think there's anywhere near enough room to do that, around the light cluster behind the mirror, in the 987.
  4. I finally got around to hardwiring my A8, and it sure is nice. I just ordered another hardwire adapter from Valentine, for the Boxster. Has anyone here done one? Where did you tap power, and how did you route the power (phone) cable? Suggestions? I normally mount my V1 low, in the center of the windshield, just above the dash. '06 987 S
  5. I used it on our 986, which we owned for about 6 years. It worked great. I'm a big fan of the Aerospace 303 Protectant for plastic and rubber, as well. Most detailing gurus I've seen, like the stuff. Order both at the same time, and save on shipping.
  6. Porsche just doesn't "get" in-car electronics. As another indication of this, look at the lame phone solution on 997s, with that stupid SIM chip drawer. Contrast this with Lexus' Bluetooth, which works well. Heck, I just had a GM rental on a trip, and it had a mini stereo jack AUX input on the front of the radio! I stopped at a Wal-Mart, bought a double-ended mini stereo cable (a whopping $4.47), plugged in my iPod Nano, and was golden.
  7. Our '01 Boxster was a Valmet car (Finnish). It was a great car. We traded it in for the '06 S due to getting rear-ended really hard. The new one is also a Valmet car, and build quality was similarly excellent. The bi-xenons are really, really excellent. I can't imagine the halogens coming close. We like the heated seats, but I'm thinking that may not matter much in HK. We ended up finding a car on the lot, due to getting rear-ended and doing a quick trade in upon repair. We would have never ordered the body-colored roll bar, but it really does add a lot to the look of the car when the top is down. Going from a non-S car to an S car is a really nice performance jump.
  8. Those guys don't know their Audis. That would be a D3 A8, not a D2. D2 is the previous generation, like I have.
  9. Well, I guess other 2005 owners owe you a beer for being the guinea pig on that one.
  10. Do you have the TSB numbers? I'd like to forward to my service rep.
  11. An in-line FM modulator gets around the problem of crowded FM spectrum by hard-wiring from the aux device output (headphone jack on an iPod) to the FM antenna. He's not talking about a short-range FM transmitter-type FM modulator. Here's an in-line FM modulator of the sort he's recommending. No, it isn't golden-ear audiophile approved. But it is likely to be an acceptable solution for many. Scosche FM-MOD01 Modulator - Play your iPod, satellite radio tuner, or other portable music player through any FM car stereo
  12. Now that's pretty interesting. So the question becomes, will it update a non-MP3 capable, 2005 PCM unit, to make it MP3-capable? Or is it not quite that extensive of an update? I sure wish Porsche would pay just a little more attention to In-Car Electronics issues.
  13. I'd bet that a "Nav Update" is just a new nav DVD. Certainly worth a check to find out what it really means, though. It's a nice capability. I'm ripping/burning several MP3 CD's this weekend to keep in the car.
  14. On the '01, about 3 years in, I cleaned the roof with 303 Top Cleaner, then conditioned it with 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. 2+ years later, the top would still bead water, much like freshly waxed metal. So now, with the new '06, and rainy weather, I'm noticing that the top doesn't bead water at all. In fact, it appears to soak in and wet the roof completely, rather quickly. I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and hit it with the 303 High Tech Fabric Guard, but want to see if anyone has any thoughts on this, one way or another, or knows if the roofs are the same as previously (in which case I'll proceed, given my earlier good results). Or can anyone recommend a better product for this?
  15. Yes, that is correct. Only with PCM. It works great, BTW. They swapped in the new unit yesterday.
  16. Interesting. We had the dealer retrofit nav as part of our purchase. They're having to go back and replace the nav unit, because the one installed didn't have this capability. I'm guessing they got an older unit out of the parts system, and didn't realize the difference, and that they had a customer who really cared about this capability.
  17. You either have to swap out the entire unit for the latest PCM sat nav unit or buy a new Boxster/Cayman...... neither of which is cheap! Another option is to hook up an MP3 player but thats not easy either....... Denison are hopefully going to produce a connector cable that works with the Porsche system so that you can plug in your iPod Following up on that - did the 2005 PCM unit have MP3 capability? Or was that new in 2006?
