  1. Not that we have the same car, but I noticed no interferrance with the radio after my recent install. Where did you connect the power and ground for each of the ballasts? It was a pulg and play kit - live and ground for the ballasts came from the original feeds for the dipped beam headlights
  2. sorry to reply to my own question but whilst worrying about the interference from my new HID kit I have worked out that the radio reception is generally poor on my 1999 C4 Cab - i have fitted a Pioneer D3 nav system which works great but radio reception is very noisy.... is there an amplifier for the aerial in the windscreen...and if so, where is it and does it have its own fuse? The car originally had a sound upgrade package fitted at the factory btw but the previous owner had installed his own after market Alpine head unit in along with new speakers, sub and amp...
  3. Hi - help please! I have just fitted the HID upgrade kit from Aceparts in the UK - which look truly amazing - pictures will follow...but in the meantime, when they;re on, they cause terrible interference with the radio. I have put the ballasts to the side of each light in the void between the light and the wing...the ballasts are secured by strong velcro but what can I do about the interefernce? All suggestions gratefully received Thanks Alex
  4. No, it's not normal, but then again it might not be due to wear, but as a result of how they removed the original rear vinyl window. It was originally glued/bonded together. Usually, these only come apart in the bottom corners, the rest of them stay pretty secure, so when they pulled out the original rear window to sew in a new one (not uncommon because this would be 1/3 the price of having the dealer rebond a new window into place), they probably caused this ruffled appearance that you see. thnaks for the reply - the curious thing is that the hood and window are both brand new......so the sewing in iof the rear window and the ruffling around the edges might be a product of a job done cheaply. I must say that from the outside the job does look like a good one and the mechanism etc works perfectly. Id just hate for an expert to cast doubt on the job when I come to re-sell. As ther Isurance work is guaranteed, I might take it to the OPC for their opinion - here in the southern UK - only one OPC has the facilties to replace the hood apparantly which means a long time without my car as it has to go there on a low loader fitted and then returned....I'll post soem pics to see if anyone can make a judgement!
  5. this may sound very dim of me but..... I recently had the hood replaced on my 1999 C4 coutesy of my insurance company and their "approved repairer". Apart from them cracking the back bumper - which they subsequently had to repair - the hood itself looks like a good job but on the inside, on the trim all around the four sides of the plastic rear window, there is a lot of "ruffling" and the trim is not smooth where it meets the window. As I had the hood replaced before I had even had a chance to take the hard top off which was on when I bought the car a few months ago, I dont know if this is how it should be or whether its a shoddy job (or even what it looked like before). The rear window is obviously sewn into the hood (i can see a neat row of stitches) - and I was under the impression that the rear window was bonded-in. I have tried to peer into other 996s I see parked but its hard not to look as if you are trying to steal them!! Dont suppose anyone has any pics of the rear interior with the hood up so I can compare. Before I get too worried about it, is the "ruffling (gathering) a normal thing with these cars??
  6. no - think Im onto a loser with this one!! The only solution is to run a feed from the stereo through the cabin and into the engine bay - not much fun - dont think I can actually face the heartache of removing everything again - once was enough to be honest!
  7. thnaks Loren - any idea how to remove and refit it.....guess its probably a case of prying it off and then re-seating it?? Be great if you could confirm though! thanks Alex
  8. thnaks Loren - this isnt my car (camera is broken!!) but this is the trim piece (number 1 on diagram) I'm looking for. Whilst fitting my nav system I think I have broken some retaining clips as it moves about. As the wind-deflector slots into a gap between this piece and the rear seats that too is rattling and driving me nuts. Not sure how the previous owner managed to make such a mess of it though - I need it in black. was hoping to find a part number and if it is too expensive just find out how it is assembled/removed so I can try and at leats fix the rattling thanks v much Alex
  9. Hi Ive been looking for a New MAF on flea-bay for some time..... Will a MAF part number 986.606.125.01 fit my 1999 C4 cab (ROW) - in previous posts I was advised to get 986.606.124.00...... thx Alex
  10. Hi - trying to locate the part no for the trim piece that covers the roll-bars on my 199 C4 Cab. At the moment , the fabric is pretty scratched up - it also seems to be a bit loose which means that the wind deflector rattles pretty loudly as the clip that kidn fo sits above the rear seat back it wobbling around a lot. Have searched for a solution - perhaps it just needs refitting, but as its pretty scratched, might be time to replace
  11. Hi there I have been reading various diagnostic threads about a ticking sound in my 1999 C4 - before I invest time and money with a specialist - I thought I'd try and see if it was the EGR valve - as has been pointed out in many threads. Problem is, I dont know where to find the EGR valve to disconnect it - and if it is that, is it a simple case of replacing the EGR - is this an expensive part and is it DIYable?? thx Alex
  12. The display screen is my new Pioneer Double Din Head Unit - and the only feed is a video RCA cable into the back of that. Teh camera on the rear bumper needs its own power...
  13. thnaks for that - but I wanted to avoid going into the cabin - its a lot of work and not really worth it - if I can keep it inside the engine bay - I wont have to remove any of the interior trim which although not difficult, is fairly time consuming!!
  14. Sorry - more questions... My hood is rattling pretty badly on the uneven roads around where I live - almost everywhere actually....I have looked at two TSBs that may help - 6101 refers to moving the brackets on the windshield closer towards the passenger compartment which looks DIYable. Only thing is - I dont have any kind of torque wrench and it does call for a specific torque tightening of the screws after adjusting them - can I just tighten "to feel" or is that torque seeting crucial? The other TSB refers to a new "centering peg" and has part numbers for a left and right part. Can someone help with what these are and how easy are they to fit because the TSB 6119 makes it look very tricky with specific angles being cut in the metal and looks distinctly difficult!!! Has anyone performed either of these Mods - and was it worth it>??!! I have a RHD 1999 C4 cab btw thanks Alex
  15. Hi there Does nayone know of an ignition-switched power supply I can take a feed from in the engine bay?? Id like to hook up my reversing camera to an ignition switched live feed instead of the reversing light....its a real gmmick, but Id like to use the camera without having to go into reverse!! thanks for advice Alex
  16. neither do Im afraid - was really looking for the "idiots" guide - red +Live, Brown + Earth etc etc need to know colours of Battery Ingition switched Illumination Earth thx Alex
  17. Sorry - know this has been asked many times before but I just cant find it! Has anyone got a stereo wiring diagram for a 1999 C4 please - just need to figure out the loom that previously went into the stereo so I can hook up the new one Very grateful for help Alex
  18. there is a spolier indicator that you can wire up to one of the blank switches on the dash - they're on flea-bay from a guy in Germany for not too many $$$$s...but Im not sure how it actually works - Ive looked into it though - its a doddle to fix up though
  19. when I start the car - I get a red spolier warning light on the dash until I pull off, when it goes out. I never see that warning light again until I re-start - prehaps if you dont get a warning light on startup (which I have been told is normal) the bulb has been removed or there is a fault with it. Btw there's no way to see the spolier from inside the car unless you pull alongside a very clean and shiny truck or car on the motorway - which I did the other day just to check! When I first got the car, I asked my wife to follow me on the m'way one day and she said she "could not see anything"....so I asked a mate to do the same thing and he confrimed it was working as it should, lifting at speed and lowering when going slow....turns out SWMBO had misunderstood the "brief" and was lookign for soemthign completely different- cant imagine what though...
  20. Sorry everyone - another question on my iminent Double Din Stereo install( 1999 C4 Cab UK)....Im trying to get all my bits together before the big install.....do you know anything about a metal support bracket that sits right at the back of the double din gap??? Its metal and double din-sized and I think provides rear support for the unit when in place. On my 1999 car it would appear that such a part does not exist although other install threads say its important - my OPC can find the bracket for cars 2002 onwards part 996 552 673 03)but the OPC say it wont fit my car - only 2002 onwards-and anyway they cant get it in for a while! Ive already order the new PCM compatible "frame" from them but that's made from plastic (and £80!!!) not metal..... When I removed the CC panel there was the top top half there (which I removed) but not a whole frame???? The last stero int he car was also an after market one but it had been put in the top slot of the lower centre console.....Can you help or am I worrying over nothing? The bit I need (i think ) is attached - found on another post - hope that is OK - Oh and btw - anyone got any bright idea of how to route a cable through to the centre consol (by the handbrake) once I've got it into the cab storage area from the engine bay as per Lorens amazing instructions as usual......(see recent post!!)
  21. sorry Loren -0 being a little thick here - do you mean by the fuse box on the right hand side of the drivers footwell(RHD!)
  22. Hi I found Loren's useful post re speed signal for my new nav - but can someone confirm where the relay control panel is on a UK RHD car please? Thx Alex
  23. thanks - does sound easy - what the best way to then route the cable through to the dash?? I'm looking for the easiest way of course!!! Hoping there may be a way to shortcut removing too many trim panels. I'm reoving the handbrake and centre console to route an IPOD cable into the storage tray/armrest - how do I get from the hood storage area to the centre consol (handbrake bit)?? Grateful - this is sounding quite possible even with my limited skillset! thanks Alex
  24. Hi Desperate for help please!!! I have been trying to wire in my reversing camera - and need to run the RCA cable from the back left hand bumper on my 1999 C4 Cab (UK model). I have searched through all the posts I can find about routing cables through the engine bay and into the cabin but keep getting unstuck with US vs Uk models...are there any definitive guides as to how to do this - pics would be most useful - I have looke dat the TSB illustrations which are really no help at all and I am getting myself into a mess and more and more desperate!!! Really would appreciate some advice form the experts!! Really grateful for any help - I need it - its driving me nuts - especially as the only time I get to do any work on the car inbetween weekends, it's dark here! Alex
