  1. Hi, i just replaced the belt. Gave the car a quick bath and no more screeching! Thanks!
  2. thanks for the reply, the car is at 83K miles, belt was replaced at the 60K mark.... I am going to swap out the belt to see if the condition continues....I will post results...
  3. Hi everyone, After a heavy down pour or after I wash my car, my engine area has developed a screeching noise. After I put the car in gear and step on the gas, the sound will go away. Any ideas what this is? Is it the Polyrib belt slipping? I have a 1999 996 C4. No warning lights of an kind. Overall, it does not effect the car, but it is embarrassing as the noise is really noticeable. Any help would be great. Thanks.
  4. Thanks all, its not all 0W-20. I had 0W-40 in there and topped it off with 0W-20..... My next oil change is in 200 miiles (for me, that is a week of driving)... I will swap out all the old oil and replace it with 0W-40... Thanks for everyones help.... happy holidays....
  5. hi all, I used the wrong motor oil when i did my oil change a month ago. After reading some post and looking at one of my empty bottles, I discovered that I had used 0W-20 instead of 0W-40. Should I change the oil right now? or can I wait till my next oil change to go back to 0W-40. Thanks everyone for the help.
  6. James, I was reading on your idle problems.... i have changed my alternator and fixed the tubes... I do not have issues with the car idling... You can atleast rule out that the vacuum tube is not causing it as I would of had the same problems. Sorry I could not be more helpful. Good luck to you and thanks for your help.
  7. i just got back from autozone... i got the tubing and a connector, the size is 1/8". My next questions, " is this going to hold? how much pressure comes from this tube? Has yours come off since you put it on?
  8. thanks james, it looks we broke the same tubes, where did you get the small flexible hose? An autoparts store? what size should i ask for?
  9. Loren, The tube is really thin... its right on top of the alternator, i can't locate it on your diagram, but the thin tube runs straight back and is right next to the dip stick. I have a 1999 996 c4
  10. its a little tough, but take your time... its not too hard, going to bring it to autozone to get it checked out or order a new one, they have them there for 167.25, not a bad price..... Whats the worst that can happen? Break a couple of tubes??? hahah
  11. hi, i got my alternator out.. but while i was doing it, i also broke the coolant tube and this thin tube on top of the alternator....its the tube that is circled above (i took this picture of this website, as whoever this car belongs to, also had the same issue)... can some please tell me how to fix this? (i think i know how to fix the coolant tube but not this).... Thanks all!!!
  12. thanks, i went and got a cig. lighter battery charger, plug it in and presto.. doors unlocked and car jumped... thanks!!
  13. someone please help, i have a 1999 996, no power to the car, can't jump it as i can't get teh hood to open. can some help me?
  14. cowling covers? i dont know what those are.....can you give me a description? Serpentine belt is that the same as the polyrib belt? That was changed at 60,000 miles. Car has 74,000 miles on it.....
  15. Hi, A while ago I posted that I had issue with my idiot lights coming on after a heavy rain. Some of you suggested that I change my battery to see if that fixes the issue. I have changed the battery and the lights still come on after a heavy rain. I have a 1999 996 C4. Here are the issues: After heavy rain: Idiots come on ( PSM, battery, caution) , volt meter on dash jumps over 16, electronics on the car stops running. After driving for a little bit, everything returns to normal, volt meter comes back 13volts and electronics are fine. (The car starts and drives fine) This morning, the car would not start, half a turn and "tic, tic, tic." The car needed to be jumped to get started. I am now at work hoping it does not rain... So does anyone know if its the Ignition Switch or the Alternator? It seems that the when it rains the alternator is not functioning properly and the car is running on battery? I dont know if that makes sense..... Please if anyone can offer help.....
  16. Thanks, is PN: 4A0-905-849-B-M5155 the correct part to get? Also, if i am not changing the lock, do i have to remove the vent? Shoudl the battery be disconnected?
  17. Hi, I was wondering if I can just replace the ignition switch and not the lock. I found the part on Pelican (4A0-905-849-B-M5155) for 12 dollars. I would like to replace the ignition switch to see if my problems are solved before spending over a hundred to replace the whole thing. I have a 1999 996 C4. Thanks for the help.
  18. Hi, Can someone tell me where the coil packs are located? When it rains here in FL, I get errors on my dash (idiot lights flash on). I want to see if my coil packs are cracked. Thanks,
  19. could it be that my key got wet from the rain and when I place it in the ignition, it causes issues? (just a thought.....)
  20. Thanks for the quick replys, but why would rain have anything to do with the ignition switch? I went to autozone and i have no fault codes....
  21. Hi all, i replaced my battery and thought that this was the problem... after a hard rain here in FL, the lights came on again!!!! Can someone please help? Would any of the drains being clogged cause this? I have noticed that the lights come on after the car is sitting under heavy rain..... Please if you have any ideas, let me know....
  22. I have the same problem, water came in from the side of the door, As I have a C4, I dont believe there is a front drain , did you ever solve your problem? Was it the front waterproof membrane?
  23. thanks, I am going to bring it into autozone to check the battery. (its never above the 15 volt meter, so I am hoping its just the battery that needs replacing)....
