  1. What exactly does Porsche do to the engine when they add the X50 option that can't be done after the car leaves the factory (in other words why can't it be added afterwards)? Would chipping or flashing the ECU be just as effective as spending the extra cash fro the X50 option, especially if the 996TT I purchase does not have it?
  2. :D Funny that we should be on this topic...I just picked my car up from Sunset Imports here in Portland, Oregon ....RMS FIXED, NO CHARGE...TRANSMISSION REMOVED, INSPECTED, CLEANED, REINSTALLED NO CHARGE..., CLUTCH ASSY REMOVED, INSPECTED, NO CHARGE... CLUTCH REPAIR KIT $617.00 (for parts) INSTALL, NO CHARGE :D My warrenty expired in February of 2003! Sunset Imports took care of me, even gave me a loaner (it was a Cayenne at first but it broke so I got a Buick LaSabre from the Enterprise RAC next door to the dealership). Part Numbers they replaced- 996-116-911-00 Clutch Repair Kit 999-113-490-40 Oil Seal 999-073-092-09 Screw 10x50
  3. Raffi, I am experience the same leak(i think). It is the passenger side of the engine and seems to be leaking from an area where it looks as if some sensor wire is going in. ?? Is this the same location, Raffi? Does anyone have any insight on this leak? I will take and post a picture tomorrow. Thanks, jon :( ****! Just found this leak today and my car has been out of warrenty since February! Has there been any feedback since this thread originally posted about Porsche repairing this problem under warrenty for out of warrenty 996's. The oil is coming out in a fairly steady drip (about 1-2 drips per hour). I climed unc=der the car today to see if the bad news is real and its not looking good. ****, I am starting to feel like I am driving a Bimmer! If Porsche cannot fix this under warrenty...I AM OUT...Selling my car and no more Porsche's for me. I may have to slide over to Merc's or perhaps (dread the thought) back to Bimmer! Dayum this sucks, I went through this with my 993 (5K to fix a carbon build up in the intake) a flaw that began to reveal itself immediately after the car stepped out of the warrenty. Looks like I am gonna get jacked again not in my 996 if Porsche does not cover this.
  4. How much is the MAF? I have heard time and time again that it is expensive and difficult to DIY it and have yet to find these details when doing a "search" here. I have heard that the price of a MAF is different C4 and a C2. I have heard all kinds of junk on this and have seen no real collective agrement or answers. Good question though- Can a MAF be cleaned? I am concered becuase I keep getting this P1130 code "check engine lite" and I have already changed the 02 sensor, the bellows tube looks fine and I am beginning to think it maybe the MAF and I cannot, for the life of me, figure our why that bastard went bad. If it is a bad MAF then I would like to do the repair myself and am uncertain if there is something i need to know before doing it. There is NO info on DIY of MAF repair, change, diagnostics anywhere. :(
  5. Thanks Loren. I think I am going to purchase one of these today. Yes, I know Steve at RennSport (see him at the track often...GREAT GUY) however, I am pretty loyal to my mechanic at A&P Specialties who has worked for Porsche almost 20 years and been in busines for himself working on Porsche for another 15. Sorry, I did not mean to give the impression I was ditching him. I would like to start diagnosing and repairing more of these things on my 996 myself becuase I enjoy doing it and simply hate paying someone to enjoy my ride on the rollercoaster ;) . That is why I keep copies of all of the stuff you've posted on your DIY website hanging in my garage on a clipboard...Dude you have be a great resource and contributor to my weekend fun! Thanks
  6. Loren, I would like to check these codes myself going forward. Do reccomend a device (pehaps I can get software that will work in my IPaQ Pocket PC and an interface). Anybody you can reccomend I talk to? TIA, p@
  7. I just recently had my Porsche mechanic replace an oxygen sensor becuase a code indicated that there was a problem with the rear passenger side sensor. I scheduled an appointment the have it changed but the day before the change the "CE" light went out. I had him change the sensor Two weeks later I have a check engine light again! I suspect when I have my mechanic check the code it is going to tell me that I have another bad oxygen sensor ($150 for one) . 1st Question- How many Oxygen Sensors are there and where excatly is each one located ? 2nd Question- Do these things all go bad this often?
