  1. Hi, I finally decided to lower my C2 99 w/ 19's and looking to get PSS9s, I don't know if my tires will rub so Im getting these adjustables.

Does anyone know how low is the maximum height on PSS9s compared to stocks?

What other parts do I need, I heard GT3 sway bar and some other, any part number if oem?

    thanks.

If you just want to lower the car, why not consider the ROW030? As I recall, it is a good bit cheaper and will provide lowering and stiffin the suspension and you can also change out the sway bars. Others can correct me, but I don't know why you would go with PSS9 unless you plan to adjust (corner balance) your car for the track. The benefit of PSS9 is the adjustability. In addition, I'm pretty sure that you have to have the car aligned everytime you adjust the PSS9s.

My old race car had adjustable Carrera coil over suspension, but I had much greater ability to adjust the caster and camber on that car than what you have on the Pcar.

  2. Open it up as if you were going to replace the battery and let it dry out to see if it will start working.

I did let it completly dry out before trying to use it, but to no use. Is it safe to assume that removing the battery from my other key to try in the key that isn't working will not affect the programming of that key? Also, if it is the board that is damaged, can you buy the board seperate? If not and if it isn't the battery, I guess I will just use the key the old fashioned way. Not worth a couple hundred bucks ($100 for new transmitter and $100 for programming) just to be able use the remote to lock the doors since I do have a functional key!

  3. Will, if you wear the pants, then it is your responsibility to empty the pockets. For example, if you left money in the pants, and she washed them, who's money would it be then?

Did you know men who help their spouses do housework get more sex! True, I read this last year. And it works. Just a tip for you. :)

Okay, a few points for the record:

My wife took my pants while I was in the shower (I know TMI). I always empty my pockets after I get out of the shower and in my new pants.

My wife is a very successful business woman and doesn't need money found in the laundry.

I probably do more housework than my wife as we have a housekeeper and about the only thing we (I) do is take out the trash. It was a rare occasion that she did laundry.

We have a 16 week old baby and a 4 yo so as for sex.....you get what you get when you can get it :)

That being said, how does all this get my darn key fixed? This board has been pretty light hearted lately. Must be summer :)

  4. I have been trying to complete the documentation of the service history for my P-car. When I contacted my dealer, they could only pull all records of work they did. Prior to my ownership, the car was originally sold and maintained in the East Coast. I called Porsche NA and they provided me with the contact of the dealer in the East Coast and advised that it was not an issue for me to obtain them. When I first contacted that dealership, they told me it wasn't possible because of "confidentiality of the first owner". When I escalated it to the Service Manager, he provided the history to me but only verbally. That leaves me short of a documented service history.

Is this consistent with your experiences and is this something worth escalating to Porsche NA? It just seems bizarre that Porsche would be so disinterested in people wanting to maintain service histories and thus diminishing the value of OPC servicing!

When I bought my car, I was able to determine the dealership who originally services the car through the CarFax report. I called the delaership and gave them my VIN and they faxed me all service records no questions asked. Not sure why they wouldn't as long as you can prove you are the current owner of the car.

  5. I recently bought an Arctic Silver 1999 966 C2 coupe and, so far, no buyers remorse. :) I'm going to need tires in the next few months. The car has 18" wheels and currently running Michelin Sports.

I am far more interested in ride and quietness rather than performance. This is mostly a city car.

Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As others have said, you have re opened the floodgates of opinions on this topic. You can do a search here to see the many times this issue has been debated. I recently replaced my Michelin Pilot Sports with a new set of Pilot Sports. I have been very happy with the tires. Last set wore very even, lost little traction and road noise was very good. New set have been awsome so far (`500 miles).

  6. I bought some leather repair from a vendor that is in England. In the British 911 mags. It was great resolved almost all of my cracking problems. I see on ebay what looks like the same product. Hope that helps.

Thanks!! What is the product called? If I wanted to order new leather who would you recommend I order it from?

I have heard good things about www.gahh.com but I have not used them personally.

  7. Hello again,

After getting an answer to my "where to put the gas cap when filling with gasoline" question I was looking at "TOOL PANTS" pictures and noticed that what I took for a "slot" was really where a part goes. I believe that this plastic or rubber part is what the "locking plunger" goes into to keep the lid from being opened, is missing. I locked the car, using the remote, and the gas lid still opens.....makes one wonder why it was never replaced? Is this a part that one can get without getting a new gas lid?

I guess it's just me, but I really hate when things on my cars are not "at the should"!

    Thanks again for any guidance,

I don't have your answer, but I did learn something from your post. I never realized that my car had a locking gas cap since it doesn't have a release lever. Go figure.

  8. I didn't think it was recommended to install a X74 on a cab. The body of the cab is not as sturdy as a coupe and the increased flex from a stiff suspension could cause damage. Not saying what you did was wrong, but others with a cab may want to do some research before making this mod.

    Will

I did plenty of research. What finally sold me was a post from Gert at Carnwal.

He basically said PSS9's and H&R coilovers have stiffer settings than X74 and they sell them for coupes and cabs. Nobody questions when someone puts PSS9's on a cab.

Now mine is an 02 cab so the structure was stiffened from the mkI model.

Those with 99-01 cab's might not want to install X74.

You are corret on the <'02's and that is what I was refering to. I should have clarified. I have a '99 and have decided to go ROW M030.

  9. MY 99 C2 Cab 18" wheels 26.5f/26r standard suspension. I asked a similar question recently and Loren replied that whatever suspension setup you use will result in the advertised ride height. That being said, most of the advertisements I see just say how much it will lower the car. I'm not sure what the "true" ride height of my car was prior to settling and aging shocks.

  10. I don't know what post you read or what the negative(s) alleged regarding using the clay bar, but I have no problems using it myself. Heed the advice about immediately disposing of any clay dropped on the ground or otherwise potentially contaminated. The stuff is relatively cheap, so additional advice from me is to not to try to extend its use; considering the time/effort you will put in, using fresh clay is a small price. Also use fresh rags to wife the surface clean. I doubt you'll regret the results from the plan you outline. --Brian

    Thanks, Q-Ship986

I will stick to the plan

This is the posting I was talking about Visit Paint Restorer...9th comment top to bottom.

    Best,

    Gus

As it relates to clay, I have seen collectors with multi milloion dollar collections use clay on their cars. Let's be real, this isn't something you do on a monthly basis. If you use a high quality clay once a year, I don't think you have a problem. That being said, I wouldn't use clay or a polish more often than is really needed.

  11. post-29822-1209138731_thumb.jpgAttached is a pic of a VIL from 2003 C4S coupe, 6-speed. In the list of option codes, i could find only 342, 680, 692, 982 in the references.

Does anyone know what the other codes (desides C02) mean? They are 288, 601, 981, 939, 985. A number of the codes (601, 692) are repeating.

From a practical point of view, I'm trying to determine if this car has 18" wheels, bi-xenon headlights and the PSM (which i believe was optional on MY2003?).

    288 - Headlight Washer

    601 - Litronic Lights

    981 - All Leather Lining

    939 - Soft Leather Rear

    985 - Parts Silver Colored

    Try this link http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...90&hl=codes

    Hope this helps.

  12. Thanks. I ran VIN through Scouser's tool. Nice. No problem reading what the year code is... I was wondering if gurus out there have any wisdom on specific serial numbers/sequences (from my original post)..?

    rrspikemarty

Are asking how you can tell the production date versus just the model year? If so, as Loren noted there is a sticker on the left side door that states the month and year of production. Mine for example is a '99 model year and the production date is 5/98. I don't think there is anything in the VIN that designates the production date only model year.

  13. I have held off on this thread, but figured now was a good time to jump in. Brother, I know how you feel. If it's in your blood, there is nothing like a Porsche 911! I am 41 yo and have asked for a Porsche for Christmas every year since 1982 when I first got my drivers license. I have been able to afford one of these cars for almost as many years as you have been alive. The reason I have never bought one was I could never justify it. I wouldn't have one today if my neighbor hadn't said "you can afford it, why not buy it?". I finially said it's time. That being said, last year I bought a '99 C2 Cab, but I could have easily bought an off the lot 997 Turbo. My point is, there is more in life than an awesome car. If you can't buy it and sleep at night, don't. You are a young person who apparently has good earning potential. If you can not buy this car and meet your other life goals (retirement, house....), wait until you can. I can only tell you that the satisfaction will only be that much better. Best wishes and never loose the dream!

  14. I am taking my car in to the dealer because there is oil weeping around the area of the RMS. The dealer replaced the RMS once already in July 2006 (I believe w/ the 997 part). It's possible it's something other than the RMS, maybe intermediate shaft. The car is under Warranty Direct, so I suspect the dealer will be motivated to get as many boat payments from my car as they can.

Here's the question, does the repair of any oil leaks in this area of the car require an engine oil change or topping up (the oil level is OK, the leak is miniscule)? I am using a special oil so I need to know if I have to bring oil (and how much) to the dealer, and remind them not to pour M1 into the engine and contaminate it.

For those of us dieing to know, what "special oil" are you using?

  15. Hi,

The drivers side window on my '02 cab has started acting up. When I open the door the window lowers the appropriate amount but instead of staying at the lowered position until the door is closed it immediately pops back up to the full up position.

Any ideas why this is happening?

    Cheers,

    Stan

I think you have one of two issues. First the window memory has gone bad. You can push the down button until the window is all the way down and then hold for 10 seconds and then do the same thing in the up position. Second, the regulator may be bad. You can do a search here and find more info.
