  1. I have an opportunity to buy a set of 997.2 base mufflers with the Fister modification but can't find any concrete information if they will fit my 2009 997.2S. Some people say they will, some say the two cars have different mufflers. Looking at the parts catalogue I do see two different model versions of non PSE exhaust but don't know what it means. They are: Model I756: 997 111 995 31 997 111 996 31 Model I171: 997 111 311 30 997 111 312 30 Can anyone give me a definitive answer if 997.2 base cans are the same as 997.2S ones? Thanks!
  2. I took my car in for the 45K service and the dealer seems to have "lost" the plastic finger screw bolts in the attached photos under the fron trunk (holds the piece next to the battery cover on). Well they ordered me two new screws and when I went to install them they also seem to have "lost" the rubber piece under the plastic piece that the screw goes into (The female side of the item...screw hole). There is no part number on the one that I have and I am tired of waiting on the dealer to figure out what part it is. Can anyone tell me from the pics what part number it is so I can just order one? Thanks!
  3. Loren, Thank you! I disassembled my mirror last night and it does appear that I need to replace part #5 on the diagram only. the part number listed in my mirror was 996-731-219-04 and that is listed on the sheet you attached. There are a lot of other #5 part numbers listed, do I need to order all of them or just the one. The car is a 2004 BoxS without the auto dimming mirrors.
  4. Looking at the chart it is hard to figure out. The only part that is physically broken is that metal part in my pictures, all else is good but if I had to pick the parts I would say part #4 and possibly the #14/17 line. Unless that the movable joint to fold the mirror in is part of the full housing (#2) I don't think I would need that. The internals (mirror, motor, bottom of the housing (#10), and the actual painted housing) are all in fine shape. Any idea what part that metal part belongs too?
  5. So I walked out to my car this morning in my parking garage and I found my drivers side mirror hanging there by the cord only. It appears someone snapped the whole mirror right off the car, the metal connector snapped in half. Attached below are some pics of the actual damage and I was wondering what parts I will need to replace in order to re attach the mirror. I searched the forum and I see there are like 13 different parts to the outside mirror and I hope that I don't have to replace the entire thing but maybe just the part that holds the mirror housing onto the door. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.
  6. The installers said they could see distortions off to the sides of the glass, where the bend is so they are going to take it back to the "Wholesaler" they bought it from. Then they admitted they bought it for someone else who backed out of installing it...these guys irritated me with this and I am just glad they are done...I just hope they didn't try to reuse the molding they put on the Plinkington. Guess I will see when I drive home from work in 30 minutes. The other thing I noticed right away is that the glass fits much better in the car. There was this huge gap between the A pillars and the old new windshield. This one fits much more flush against the pillars. So the glass does make a difference! I will take a look at the product numbers on the windshield and I assume as long as your replacement has the same numbers for glass options it is exactly the same only without that triangle logo on it. This was a very interesting experience...hope this one last for a while.
  7. Well it may have taken a month but I now have official Porsche approved glass! The guys who installed my glass changed their story about where they obtained the glass from multiple times but in the end they came out and replaced it with the Sekurit glass that has the Porsche parts stamp on it. The glue is settting right now so as long as it does not squeak or have wind problems I will be happy. For future reference Porsche glass DOES have the triangle stamp on it signifying that it is approved. Any glass not installed with that did not come from the dealer. Now, if it is Sekruit it probably the same glass (like the B&M Short Shifter vs the Porsche one) but did not come from the dealer so don't accept OE prices on that glass. I am glad this debacle is over, I can't believe I got bait and switched!
  8. My breakdown was this: OE Glass - $484.54 Mold Kit (982-541-039A3) - $69.64 (I have an S so this is the silver trim) Kit Highmode??? - 92.00 Labor - $34.36 I would definitly go with your friend's glass guy.
  9. Thanks for the long response. I spoke with Safelite as well and they said they can order the OE glass. My issue is that I paid OE glass prices and did not get OE glass. My job, in total, was $729.00 tax in. In all honesty, if I didn't think there was some sort of optical problem with the glass I wouldn't have even checked the logo stamp because it came with the rearview mirror mount installed and has the antenna in the middle with the correct black side boarders too. The other thing I noticed is that the antenna in the middle has a small bend in it, almost like a blip where it is straight till the middle of the windshield then turns out and then back in and follows the same line as before. I don't remember this on my other one. Either way, I guess I will live with it for the weekend and if I still have a problem with the optics (getting eye strain) I will complain. If the glass didn't seem to cause eyestrain I wouldn't have a problem, the odd thing is I can't see any visual distortions in the glass, really odd. Thanks again.
  10. Windshield Part Number - 2004 986S - Is this right? I just had my windshield replaced and I was told it was an OE windshield but the manufacturer is Pilkington and not Sekurit like the OE was. On my invoice I have the following part number, can someone tell me if this is for a replacement windshield or what this number could be? 986-541-541-029A4-FW2029 = OE Glass 982-541-039A3 = mold kit Thanks! 12. I was on a spirited drive with a good friend today when his 2000 987S started to billow smoke and I mean not a puff or two but makeing a smoke screen for about a quarter of a mile. We pulled off to the side of the road and it continued to smoke at idle, albeit not as bad. I know the startup smoke is normal but this was definitly not. We limped his car back home and it didn't smoke again but something is not right. He felt the car studder while the smoke was billowing out the back. I searched the archives and I have read about the bad oil seperator, is this what could be the problem? He just got an oil change three weeks ago and has noticed more smoke at startup than usual but this is a first for having it like this while driving. Any advice would he helpful. A4EP
  13. Does anyone know if the new 987 key head will work with the 986 system? I remember seeing somewhere that the 997 worked with the 996. I like the streamlined feel of the new 987 key and wonder if I bought it it would work with my 04 986. Thanks A4EP
  14. Loren, Thanks for the help. I checked the part numbers and prices at a dealership today and my bodyshop has been up front with me so now I have much more peace of mind. Thanks again. A4EP
  15. So I got into a fender bender a few weeks back and the car is in to get a new front bumper cover put on. The body shop ordered the wrong one at first and said the new one would be in today but I did not get any confirmation on that. Since they messed up and ordered a standard boxster bumper cover I am a bit hesitant that while they get the Boxster S cover it may be a PRE-2003 cover and then when I go to get the car it is all wrong. So I was hoping if anyone has the exact part number for the front bumper cover for a 2004 Boxster S I would appreciate it so I can double check. Also, the center grill was nicked in the accident and the body shop said that while it is a seperate part from the Bumper Cover it is permantly attached once it is put in, they say they can fix and reattach the old one but I don't know if they are feeding me a line of crap or not, they also said a brand new center grill with air duct comes only as a combo unit and costs about $500. That is almost as much as the bumper cover so I have a hard time believing that does anyone know that part number as well so I can double check the facts. Thanks for the help! A4EP
  16. That is how all the sound files are recorded. There is a "Standard Exhaust" version of each example and a "Porsche Sport Exhaust" version of each sample. A4EP
  17. Totally stock. Only thing is the cutout between 25-45 mph that is standard with the electronics was removed so it can only be shut off manually by depressing the switch on the dashboard. A4EP
  18. I have head the GHL and I really like it but I would hate to have the resonance with it. I have also had random comments from people in my parking garage where the other Boxster S has the GHL that mine sounds meaner and better. This is from non Porsche enthusists. Take it for what it is worth. I have recorded some new sound files and put them on my pathetic attempt of a webpage :) They are the exhaust under acceleration. Click the link below to get a list and description of each: A4EP's 2004 Porsche Factory Sport Exhaust Information Page
  19. From my understanding they will be in the permenantly on position just like on the 996 PSE. I am going to try recording a few more sound files today, ones from the cabin and ones from different angles and distances from the exhaust pipe itself. I will post the links once I have them done. I am really happy with the sound, it continues to get better but as I have said before the engine is so loud in the new Boxster S that it is sometimes hard to hear the exhaust over the engine note at speed from inside the car, it's defintily loud but maybe not as obnoxiously loud as the GHL...it does not have any renosonance though which is a HUGE plus in my book! I am confident you will like the exhaust. A4EP
  20. I guess I labeled it incorrectly, there is no difference between "option 1" and "option 2" It is supposed to be "Porsche Sport Exhaust Option" Then the two different files. One is of the car starting and the other is just a little more reving. That is all A4EP
  21. I just want to thank both Toolpants as well as Henry for working out a deal to help host the soundbits. I was able to find some space myself to post them so below are the links to all three files. There is a stock 2003/2004 Boxster S exhaust sound file as well as two files that have what the new Porsche Sport Exhaust sounds like. All files were made with the microphone at the same distance from the exhaust pipe. I only have 1900 miles on the car and exhaust and it is still getting louder and more agressive as it continues to break in. 2004 Boxster S - Standard Exhaust 2004 Boxster S - Factory Sport Exhaust Option 1 2004 Boxster S - Factory Sport Exhaust Option 2 Please let me know if these files don't work, this is the first time I have hosted anything myself. Enjoy! A4EP
  22. Not sure what you mean by the tech exhaust. I bought the car with the XLF option code which is the Porsche Sport Exhaust. It comes with the switch. Not sure how to turn off the parking brake sensor, I have not tried that yet. A4EP
  23. Not a problem. I am working on getting my personal webpage running, my ISP allows for 5mb and I have been wanting to do one for quite some time now so this just gave me the excuse to finally contact them to get my space and passwords. I hope to have the info from them in the next day or so then I will post the files myself...hopefully soon. A4EP
