  1. Toolpants, I am attaching a photo that shows a closeup of the part numbers. I tried to get a better pic today but since I don't have it up on a lift it didn't work. I took one of my previous photos and just cropped the part number portion. I played with the contrast to get a better view of the writing. While you can see a blurry "Eisenmann" I was able to see myself that it is in fact stamped on the exhaust. I hope this pic helps. Also as for the sound files: The three files are 500k in total file size, if Henry does not want to post them I would be happy to email them to anyone who would like to hear them. Just let me know!
  2. Toolpants, I made a few sound files of the Sport Exhaust, I just don't have anyplace to host them in order to post them. If you would like please send me an email and I will email them to you. When you listen to the files, standard exhaust and then sport exhaust the difference is really amazing. A4EP
  3. The new Boxster Sport Exhaust definitly does not sound anything like the 996 PSE. I got the car on the lift after installing a friends 996 PSE system and so I heard them side by side. The 996 is still the king of sounds, deep growl with a nice gurgle. The new Boxster PSE is much more agressive but not as deep and does not have the gurgle. I will attempt to take a couple sound clips of it on and off so you can get little bit of an idea what I am talking about. I don't have a good recorder so I don't know if they will work but I will try. A4EP
  4. Toolpants, a month or so ago you mentioned you had not yet seen any pics of the 2003/2004 Boxster Sport Exhaust, well I had my car up on a lift today after helping a friend install his PSE on his 996 and so I figured why not take some pics for you. So here they are: BTW: Since I pulled the jumper to eliminate the speed cut out I have had multiple complements on the sound of the exhaust. While I thought it sounded better, obviously it was not just me. Two people stopped me in my parking garage and said it sounded better than the other Boxster S, which has the GHL. I don't know if I belive that but it sure does sound better now! A4EP 04 Boxster S AS/BLK/BLK
  5. I finally figured out how to get the relay pannel down from the footwell in order to try the 996 switch hack for the Boxster Sport Exhaust switch. I don't know why I couldn't find that clasp on the left side of the relay pannel every other time I looked but I found it this time. So anyway, I pulled the 4 prong jumper from relay #23 and fired the car up. First off I want to say for some reason the exhaust sounded totally different at idle, it sounded like I had hoped it would sound when I got the car (and was disappointed at that time). I drove the car to see if there were any nasty side effect to the Boxster that were not present in the 996 and there was only one...but it was good! I can now put the top up or down at speed, I did not need to do the top hack. Other than that the car works the same as it did before...but seriously sounds much louder and more agressive than it had before the hack (I do find that odd). I wonder if the jumper kept the exhaust quiet at a larger range than was previously believed. Anyway if anyone has the Sport Exhaust come OE then this hack is a must! A4EP 2004 Boxster S AS/BLK/BLK
  6. I will see if there is some angle I can shoot a couple pics of the new system. I will check to see if the relay modification of the 996 might also work for the Boxster system...I just don't want to ruin my new car :) I would assume that it would about the same though.
  7. Yup it is option XLF with the dash switch just like the 996. But the actual system still looks like the exhaust of the boxster, not like the one that they have pictured in the 2003/2004 Boxster tequipment brochure. The one in the brochure looks like the 996 sport exhaust. So on the old system was there anyway of getting rid of the cutoff from 27 to 42 mph like there is for the 996 exhaust? Thanks for the help, and I totally agree I am a bit disappointed with the sound...as I said I can't really tell the difference in normal driving, just in my parking garage. A4EP
  8. I just purchased a 2004 Boxster S with the factory installed Sport Exhaust. I know that the 996 Sport Exhaust has the cut out around 40mph, I was wondering if the Boxster version also has this cutout. I am still having problems hearing the sports exhaust while driving (not as loud as the 996) and so I was wondering if the reason is because it is cutting out. If it does automatically cut out is there a way to have it on all the time as well as be able to use the switch...like the relay method on the 996. Thanks for the help! A4EP
  9. Mark, very interesting. The car is at just under 8k miles so it is in the range. Which brackets are you talking about? Having installed the PSE I hope I didn't overtorque anything now. Is it the braket that holds the main part of the exhaust on or just the small bracket that holds the exhaust tips on to the exhaust pipe itself? I can just see it now, if it is the install I will never live this down :) Please let it be the engine, please please please :) :) :) A4EP
  10. No, the rattle just developed and I installed the PSE over two months ago so I don't think there was debris inside the muffler since it has just started to rattle.
  11. I got a call from my dad today asking me if I could search some of the forums to try to diagnose a problem that just popped up with his C4S. There is a rattle coming from the rear end of the car, my dad thought it was the exhaust at first (jokingly blaming my installation skills of the PSE :) but it might be coming from the engine. He says it sounds like a pebble in a tin can and only occurs when be blips the throttle or take a right hand turn. There is no oil on the floor and the exhaust seems to be on there very securely. Has anyone experienced this problem or possibly know what it could be? Thanks for the advice. A4EP 2002 C4S, SG/BLK - 6-speed, Heir
  12. Ok Loren, now I am especially confused :) I looked at the spot on the mufflers for the actual part number and it is listed as 996 111 984 01 996 111 985 01 That isn't the 00 or the 03 ending of either parts you have listed in the past. The date stamp on the muffler is July of 2003. So I remember you posted a while back at funcars (but I can't find the post) the difference in the dimensions of the tubes between the 00 and the 03 parts. Do you happen to remember off hand what those dimensions where so I can just make 100% sure I have the right system before I disassemble and reassemble the car :) Thanks so much for the help! A4EP
  13. Loren, Thanks for the help!!! I really appreciate it. A4EP
  14. So the good news....the PSE that was backordered from SunCoast has arrived just in time for the Labor Day Weekend!!! But now I am confused. Suncoast emailed when they said it was backordered and said we would be receiving the new kit with the switch. Well first off the invoice had both of the kit part numbers (with and without switch) on it. The kit came with what looks like all of the electronics as well as vaccume stuff but it didnt't come with the ACTUAL switch. Now not that it matters but I am confused since Suncoast said it would, but I guess since the electronics will not be installed it is not a big deal. What I am confused about is that the part numbers on the actual mufflers do not match the ones that Loren has posted. The part numbers that arrived and are stamped on the mufflers are: 996 111 238 02 996 111 237 02 First off does it matter that the numbers are not the same...it appears they have all of the vaccume stuff and larger pipes so it should be the same system. But what are the dimensions of the newer system with the larger pipes so I can make sure I have the right mufflers. Second which one is the left and right side ones...or does it not matter? Thanks for the help. A4EP
  15. Thanks for all of the advice. I got the PSE ordered through SunCoast, unfortunatly they are out of stock and they expect to receive it in 2-3 weeks. This does not make me happy considering I am heading down to visit the parents in FL in 2 weeks for vacation and the PSE is for my Dad's car. I guess there is still a slim chance it will get to my parents house in time and I will be able to put it on and experience the difference :) A4EP 02 C4S SG/BLK heir.
  16. Hi all, I need some general advice. I will be doing installing the PSE myself in about two weeks and I was just thinking, minus a lift, what is the safest way to raise the back end of the car up to do the work. I have a set of ramps but from what I have heard the install is easier to do with the wheels off so I am assuming two jack stands should do it. Should two jack stands be alright or should I go with four stands? Also are there any reccomendations for stands? Thanks for the advice. A4EP 2002 C4S SG/BLK Heir
