  1. I have 19" on my 2000 Boxster S. I would never consider anything less. The ride isn't much more harsh than with my 17" on winters, but the car does tend to track a little more in road ruts. My 19's do weigh quite a bit, but I'm not exactly on the 1/4 mile track.

    I bought mine for around $2000 for the set with rubber from wheel dynamics in LA. The service, price and fit was awsome! I had to use 5mm wheel spacers for the rear which they threw in for free. They even shipped to western Canada in less than a week for under $200

  2. I upgraded to 19's. The ride is more harsh, but you gotta pay the cost to be the boss. Nobody should be riding around on 17's, unless they are wrapped with winter rubber (like in my case). For less than $2000 you TOTALLY change the look of your car. I wouldn't dream of owning a car without aftermarket wheels, unless maybe it was a Veyron.

  3. I have a GIAC chip and Evolution cold air intake in my Boxster S. To me, the intake makes a huge difference in sound (wails at 3000rpm) and gives me a bit of boost..maybe 10hp (maybe). The chip on the other hand doesn't really do a whole lot. I was driving the car daily while chipped and recently had the DME reflashed to accept a new MAF sensor. This set my car back to stock and I don't really notice a difference. I certainly don't think it's worth $2000. I would consider just getting an intake and forgoing the chip. I've also had problems with GIAC customer service. You'd have to search my posts to find out why. Hope this helps.

  4. The speedo is simple...you toogle through the menus on the little lever below the signal light, it's all in the manual. As for daytime running lights (DRL) you will need to either make a jumper cable for your fuse box which turns the full headlights on full time, or go to a dealer and maybe have them activate your lights. All jokes aside, Canadian Tire does a pretty decent job of the lights as well. They are also an authorized RIV inspection location who can officially pass your vehicle and declare it "Canadian". DRL's shouldn't cost you more than $150 or you're getting ripped off.

  5. I have the same problem in my 2000 Boxster S. I can tell that the sound is coming from the rear and it's like a whinning noise that increases with speed. I changed out my summer rims and tires for my winter ones (brand new rubber) a few months back and the noise is still there. I am 99% sure it's a wheel bearing. Sunset sells the rear bearing for $58.47. Anyone know how many hours a mechanic would (should) bill to swap it out? I would do it myself but don't have a puller (almost $300).

  6. Hey all....

    When I purchased my 2000 986 S, it came with an Evolution Air Intake and GIAC tuning installed at PFAFF Porsche in Toronto. Over the last year, my mass airflow sensor failed (surprise, surprise) and I had to install the new 'upgraded' sensor (989-606-125-01). In order for the car to accept this sensor I had to have the DME reprogrammed by my local Porsche dealer. Since the reprogramming essentially erased my upgraded tuning, and restored the car to factory, I decided to contact my local tuner to see about getting my car 'chipped' again. GIAC will let you upload the software again for free (since it was almost $1000) but my local tuner does charge an hour or two labor for this service. That was fine with me, but now my local tuner is saying GIAC doesn't have software that is compatible with my upgraded (new) DME. I tried contacting GIAC directly several times but no one will respond. Talk about bad customer service. Can anybody shed any light on anything?

  7. Wow....changed out my coolant reservoir today and decided to clean out my high flow filter. I live in dusty Calgary, Canada and cleaned the filter about 4 months ago. Take a look at the pic and all of the silt like sand that came out of it. My filter has been cleaned and re-oiled in the photo.

  8. Just changed out my reservoir. I am in Calgary Canada and instead of paying $310 for parts from my dealer, I got it from Sunset Porsche for only $176. Took about 3 hours all together. Went in from the engine bay on top. Overall this is not a hard project, it just takes patience. I used regular old offset pliers (the bent ones) and replaced everything with worm driven clamps. Remove the reservoir hose inside the engine bay, where the hose is connected to the engine, not where it connects to the reservoir tank. Once removed, use force to yank out the tank.

  9. I suggest using a heat gun or hairdryer to heat up the adhesive first, this makes sure none of the adhesive stick too hard and pulls off paint. I've 'debadged' everything I've ever owned including my Boxster, to replace the faded emblem with a factory fresh one. After heating the emblem, pry off the letters with a credit card or similar. For the adhesive that's left on the car, let it cool down a bit and roll it with your finger. I don't suggest scraping it with the credit card or anything else as this can scratch the paint. The whole process will take less than 5 minutes.
