  1. Pop the caps. You will see torx screws. You will need to completely unscrew them. Be careful to keep control of the screw lest it drop into the body cavity. Lift the wing up from the rear edge until you feel resistance. There is a small button latch on each side that you will need to depress to continue free movement. Once past that point, it wll lift out. The cf wing slides in similarly. Seat the front of the wing on the stanchion, insert the guides into the slots. Move it down. You will hear it as you pass the button latches. Screw it into place. Voila, will look like mine!
  2. Hi All Had the pleasure of meeting Loren yesterday. Gave me an excuse to run the GT3 down to his home then back up Hwy 9 to Hwy 35 to Hwy 84 to Hwy 1 to home in Half Moon Bay. :jump: Lots of nice roadway! Back to a "Work on Cars" day, I'll be hosting one in January. Loren and I were talking about it, and thought trying to do one between now and the first of the year might be tough given folks' Holiday schedules. I'm thinking the 20th or the 27th of January. It'll be at my home in Half Moon Bay. (BTW, by that time the scissor lift will be gone.) Chime in on a preferred date, please. Also, what work would you like to get done. I'd like to do an oil change, and change the motor mounts.
  3. See the PCA Tech section for some info: https://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...A-AF7F98A43DF9} If you do find a DIY guide, please post it. Thanks
  4. No problem I have a PST 2 and the Durametric Software so codes/faults are taken care of. See if you can get together with Tool Pants and find a location and date... My HMB garage is still available. Give me some dates, and if I'm not at the track, we can do it here. :jump:
  5. I had volunteered to host a "Work on Cars" day, then decided to sell my GT3. Fortunately for me, the GT3 hasn't sold, and I've decided to keep it. So, I'll be glad to open my garage to a "Work on Cars" event. I have a fairly full tool box, an air compressor with impact wrench and ratchet, and a scissor lift, which makes any suspension/brake/wheel-related work a bit easier. I'm located in Half Moon Bay.
  6. Sorry, guys, but this is canceled. I won't have a Porsche in the garage any more. My GT3 will be on sale. haven't decided whether to sell it privately, or consign it. Going back to my RX-7. Just bought a '94 RX-7, and will probably keep my SL55.
  7. I need to prep my car for my next track weekend (29-30), so I'll be doing it then. If anyone else cares to do a little maintenance, they'll be welcome to come on by.
  8. Sorry, guys, but I'm going to need to postpone this until the 22d. I've been ill most of the week, left work after only an hour on Tuesday, then again today. Got a bug of some sort - bad throat, headache, and discharging at both ends. Slept part of the afternoon, but still feeling lousy. Even if I get to feeling better tomorrow, no telling how I'll be Saturday. Unless another venue picks this up for the 8th, I'll do it on the 22d.
  9. Forgot that I also have a set of scales for corner balancing. I believe them to be accurate, but haven't played with them in a few years.
  10. OK, no need to wait until Tuesday to give this a GO!! We're a go. Below are directions and address. What time should we start? I'd suggest 9, and folks can filter in as they can. Three things to keep in mind: 1. Traffic over Hwy 92 gets pretty heavy after 9 as folks start coming over for the pumpkin patches. 2. Once you get to HMB, obey the STOP signs, especially when you turn off Hwy 1 to come into my neighborhood. The HMB police lay in wait for those who cruise through the STOP signs, no matter how slowly. Do yourself a favor, STOP at the signs. 3. Please do not park blocking the walkway to my neighbor's house at 201. He's a PITA about this, and not worth the hassle. Hwy 92 West to Half Moon Bay Hwy 92 ends at Hwy 1 Left (South) on Hwy 1 Right at first stop light (Tres Amigos on the corner), Kelly Ave. Left at third stop sign, Potter Ave. (these are the better stop STOP signs) Right at first stop sign, Miramontes Ave. I am at 205 Miramontes, right hand side toward the end of the block. Unless it's raining, there will be a US flag on the flagpole in front. I will also have a PORSCHE flag hanging off my balcony.
  11. I'm waiting until Tuesday to see what kind of response we have before making a final decision. Are you definitely in? Even if it's just a very few, I'm game. Stay tuned!
  12. I have some oil filters sitting on my shelf. Since last May, I've been through a '99 996 C2 and a '96 993 TT. Now I have an '04 996 GT3. The ones listed in the 996 DIY oil change are 996 107 225 52 (I have these) or 996 107 225 53. What is the p/n for the GT3's oil filter, please? Found the info at the DIY page on the GT3. It is 996 107 225 52.
  13. Besides the scissor lift noted above, I also have a compressor, and impact and ratchet wrenches, as well as most hobbyist mechanic tools. The one thing I'd ask folks to bring are plastic jugs for any used oil and/or brake fluid, and I'd ask you to take that away with you since recycling is limited.
  14. James Sorry, can't help you your specific needs, but will be glad to offer my garage as a DIY gathering site. I have a scissor lift for use, also. I'm located in Half Moon Bay. I need to do an oil/filter and brake fluid change on my GT3. Assuming it's best to schedule this for a Saturday, I have Oct 8 or 22 available. I need to get my work done by the 22nd as I have my next track event on the 29th and 30th.
  15. I have a new GT3 that needs the Sports Seats replaced with GT3 seats, a DAS Sport roll bar and harnesses installed. Think we can do that?
  16. It'll be several weeks still before delivery, but just bought a 48" scissor lift. That'll help with some of the DIY projects.
  17. Hi Wanting to install 6-point harnesses in my '96 993TT. I already have a roll bar installed, and am looking for DIY instructions for the 6-point harnesses. Anyone know if/where this might be posted? Thanks
  18. OK, now you make it tough. Do I autox that day or hang out?????
  19. Hey I no longer need help working on my '99 996 C2 as I had the 30K mile service done, and am now selling it....Because I bought a '96 993 Twin Turbo!!! :) But, I'm still interested in getting involved in the next DIY Day.
  20. I'm about to undertake this, that is, swapping out my OE kit for the Euro-spec M030. The manual calls for using special tools 9560 (to press off ball joints) and 9546 on the fronts. What are these, and are they really needed. (edit: I found Jetskied's instructions on Rennlist, and that seems to answer all my questions. Thanks)
  21. I recently purchased a '99 C2 (996). I came out of a highly modified '93 RX-7 making 337 hp at the rear wheels. Due to a personal situation, during the past 3 years I have run no track or autox events. Prior to that I had autoxed from '87 until '93 with an '84 RX-7, then in '93 and '94 with the stock '93 RX-7. After that I ran 3-4 weekend track events (schools, high-perf driving) per year, primarily with N.A.S.A., beginning in '98 I had intended to concentrate on autoxing this year to get a feel for the 996; however, have decided to jump into it with as many track events/schools as I can schedule. I have a coupe, and would like to start preparing it. Perhaps you can advise me, or tell me where I might opinions/recommendations on: 1. Roll or harness bars. Tequipment, DAS and/or Brey Krause? 2. Wheels. MY '02 Carrera 5-spoke Lightweights, Sport Classic IIs, TechArt Daytonas. (I won't go into the gory details, but I have all three in 18" with tires, and one set of the Lightweights without tires.) Which to use for track and which to use for street? (Anyone looking to buy the others, email me.) 3. Tires. On the above I have Pirelli P Zeros. I intend to keep one set for track use and one set for street use. On the track set, I'd like a recommendation of a proper tire. There is an event at Buttonwillow in July. I assume it's going to be HOT!! With the RX-7 that was death, it did not like heat. How will the 996 react? Any special preparation for the heat? Thanks for any info/guidance.
  22. I am looking for a way to carry my track wheels/tires to autox and track events. I had a hitch on my '93 RX-7 that I used to tow a small trailer on which I carried my wheels/tires, toolbox, air tank, and miscellany. Might there be a hitch for the 996? If not, one of the local guys described to me an apparatus that hangs off the back of the 996 on which wheels/tires slide on for transport. Any info would be appreciated. :help:
  23. See, I try to use the right terminology and I get corrected. :) I had called them headers in a previous post, and someone told me they were called manifold extractors (in the European fashion). I'll go back to calling them what they should be called, headers. Thanks for the info. Project for tomorrow!!
  24. I had alerted AutoTrader to the scam, and they just notified me that they have removed it. That may be why I couldn't find it again.
