    there's an article over at www.caymanclub.net that talks specifically about removing the steering wheel. i don't have the link so you'll have to search for it there or do a google search. btw, i had the wheel installed by my dealer for 150 bones. that way, its on record. anyways, the steering wheel is great. it makes a huge impact on the driving experience.

    i think this might do the trick...buy a Garmin NUVI 660 (higher model)! i got one because i don't have PCM but it turns out the NUVI is so good that it answers every technology need today. 1. its got a built in MP3 player (use WMP11 to sync songs or drag-n-drop) 1A. built-in mem is a joke, you'll need a SDHC card 4GB or better 2. its got an FM transmitter built in 3. its got bluetooth handsfree mobile phone interface that also controls the phone 4. it mutes songs and nav when a call comes in 5. it has live traffic warnings (subscription) 6. it still has a bunch of other features i never use, like translation dictionary, calculator,... 7. it has customizable start up splash screen, so everytime i start it up, i see a porsche logo (neat) 8. i stand corrected, it doesn't have a back-up camera =( 9. it does all this with only one cable for charger/traffic receiver- no cables if use it running on the battery the bluetooth phone interface should work with your iphone's phone fuctions, but i'm sure it won't pass-through the ipod part. if you're in SF bay area 90.9 is the best frequency for the transmitter. auto on/off feature makes using it painless. good luck & pass this along to anyone you think might benefit from this. i just can't say enough about the NUVI. i even use it in my suv eventhough it already has navigation because i want to avoid different databases of saved destinations

    i found the answer to my own question....NO, there is no metal oxitde because the Fastrak (toll reader) website doesn't list our cars as affected. cheers.

    my 2cents....i was going to order mine, but i the wait would've made me miss a lot of sunny days (last april+). i got one off the lot with a few of the options i wanted and missing others. heres what i learned... 1. the S engine is amazing. i wanted Spt Chrono, but i don't miss not having it at all. 2. no PCM. i have the Bose stereo and a Garmin 660. glad i saved the 3200 bones because the Garmin plays MP3s through the Bose and adds Bluetooth handsfree to boot. 3. i added the 997 GT3 alcantara sport wheel aftermarket. Definitely makes a difference in the driving experience. 4. 19" carrera S wheels are perfect fit but if you got funds, TechArt Formula II GTS are killer! 5. don't have bi-xenon, regular lights plenty bright 6. don't get auto climate control. you'll never use it. do get the wind deflector. 7. don't have PASM. i don't know the diff, but totally impressed with handling anyway. 8. don't have CD changer, don't need it cuz of the NUVI i regret... a. not having the full leather interior. PVC is cheap smelling. b. the sport seats aren't more supportive than the standard seats and are less comfortable note: i tried someone elses porsche with the carbon fiber shift lever and it feels just like plastic... many of the other options are decorative, so those are on you. Alumi-Look is kinda cheesy though. cheers.

    thanks for the info, this really helps because i was thinking about the factory sport exhaust as well. however, the websites never mention any performance gains from the Sport exhaust.

    do porsches, specifically 987S's have metal oxide in their windshilds? here in the SF bay area, we have a toll system called Fastrak and their website says metal oxides prevent the Fastrak transponder from working properly. does anyone else have this problem? i've encountered it a couple of times, but thought it was their system!

    thanks all for your replies. i appreciate all of your comments and experience. my goal was to get a more viceral sound out of the car, not so much as to add power. i'm really satisfied with the power as everytime i try to push the 987S i either run out of road or there's traffic! i do however, wonder if adding an intake kit will increase my fuel milage...i've done it for my other cars and it's aways good for 2-3 mpg in the city... cheers

    the specs for your 08 are on the official website now.....looks like none of those things made it in. sweet car nevertheless, i have the alcantara steering wheel and it makes a huge difference i the driving experience. TJ 07 987S

    does anyone know if Fabspeed headers will add power and torque if i keep the stock exhaust system? ultimately, i want the increased pep with aftermarket exhaust systems, but i don't want to loose the factory sound. any info is appreciated.... '07 987S

    nice. i was wondering if you've tried the 997 manual and could tell me if the short shift kit now resembles it? i noticed that my 987 shifter is notchier and less refined than the 997's; is the new SS kit smoother than the original, or just shorter? btw, which brand did you get?

    i got my 987S off the lot without the parking sensor system. i find that with the top up, there's little view of the rear, especially with parallel parking. i was wondering if anyone has installed the OEM reverse kit to their car, or at least knows if there is relay kit that will make the passenger side mirror tilt down when in reverse gear? steve '07-987S

    i noticed that the instrament lights are on a sensor and do not simply illuminate when the headlights are on. has anyone figured out how to keep them on with the headlights? i.e. when driving at twilight, i turn on the headlights but my guages are still dark. steve

    need more help....i got as far as removing the 2 screws like you mentioned, but my guage cluster and surround refused to come out no matter how i pryed. could you give me more information as to removing the actually guage cluster?
