  1. If the noise only lasts a minute or two on cold engine startup and then disappears, it is most likely the secondary air pump. It last only about two seconds Kristian
  2. I have a 1999 Porsche Carrrera 4 Convertible 60500 miles. It makes a squeeling sound occasionally at cold start. I have changed my three pulleys recently, so they are ok. Could that be the water pump? How often is it recommended to change them? Thanks Kristian
  3. Thanks, I have to take a closer look on the part again. Kristian Thanks again, I tightened the screws on the part and it seems like it has been loose as long as I have owned the car. I got rid off all small rattles and squeekes by tightening them up. Kristian
  4. Thanks, I have to take a closer look on the part again. Kristian
  5. Hi, I have a 996 carrera 4 convertible. The convertible top latches to the top of the window frame. The whole unit with the interior lights and switches is coming loose (where the hook latches to). I was trying to see if there was any screws but I can't see any. Does anybody know how to tighten the unit? It's loose now and the convertible top has a gap because of it  Thanks Kristian
  6. I replaced the same parts myself and the rattling stopped immediately. About a month later I started hearing a squeeking sound from both sides. It went away after I applied Krytox on both pieces. KL
  7. I had the "worn break" light on for about a week and I heard a slight squeeking when braking on slow speeds. I checked the brakes and everything looked fine. It seemed like I had enough on my brake pads and my discs. Now the squeeking and the brake light is off. <_< Any suggesgtions? Kristian
  8. I'm thinking about buying a front and back strut brace. Do they make a difference in performance? Are they worth it? I see them for around $2-300. I have a 996 carrera 4 convertible 58 000 Kristian
  9. I had just replaced two parts that lock the top on the window frame, they were the ones making the noise. After greasing them up with crytox I got rid off all the squeeks. Thanks Kristian
  10. Hi, I'm getting a lot of squeeking from my 1999 carrera 4 convertible. It comes from the convertible top and it seems like it's coming from the front. Do you think some grease would help? And where should I apply it? Thanks Kristian
  11. If you hear a squeling noise for a few seconds when you start up your car, don't always assume its the belt. In my case it was a worn out bearing on a pulley. Normally when they fail, they will brake the alternator wall or the engine wall since they are bolted in them. I was driving very slow because I was making a turn, so the damage was minimal. I didn't want to take any chances of that happening again, so I replaced all three pulleys. Now I have a piece of mind. Thanks for you help Kristian
  12. Heres some pics of the warped out pulley. I was lucky that it did not brake anything else. KL
  13. HI, It did not brake the alternator mount. Half of the pulley from inside got carved out like somebody used a can opener. Thanks Kristian PS.I'll try to post a picture tomorrow
  14. I'm thinking of replacing my belt and all three pulleys since the belt and one of the pulleys broke today. I found an DIY for replacing the belt but nothing for the pulleys? Is it pretty easy? Anything to it? I think one of the pulley bearings went out, so I'm replacing them all. My car has 59000 miles. Thanks Kristian
  15. The belt snapped today and broke one of the small pulleys. I'm happy it happened a mile way from home. Half of the warning lights were on, so I was already waiting for the wors scenario. Kristian
  16. I bought the car used and I have no service records. It has currently 59000 miles KL
  17. I have the worn brake light on. I checked my pads and the calipers and everything seems ok. Any suggestions? Thanks Kristian
  18. Thanks guys. How do I check the pulleys? Do I just try to twist them to see if there is any play? Kristian
  19. I have a 1999 carrera 4. I was looking at the engine today and I could not figure out how to tighten the fan. It has a whining noise sometimes when i start the engine. thanks beforehand kristian
  20. HI, The window of my passenger side is hitting the convertible roof(when window is up and I'm driving). It seems like the sound comes from the middle of the window every time I hit a bump. (1999 carrera 4 convertible). Does anybody know a fix for this? Or maybe the seals to get. Thanks Kristian
  21. HI, I'm thinking of changing my brake fluid. I have a 1999 Carrera 4 convertible 58000 miles. I think the fluid is original, so it's probably about time. I don't know if it's going to make a difference on my braking, but I will do it anyway. Since I'm only probably going to do it once I'm don't want to spend much on the bleeding tool. Here's three that I'm considering (ones between $5-$20) http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/...d&Submit=Go Can anybody tell me what would be the best one to do the job. Thanks Kristian PS.Has anybody noticed a difference in the brakes after changing the fluid?
  22. Hi, I bought a new hood crest logo. I got the logo, but I don't know how to get the old one out. I see two holes with limited acces to the backside of the crest pins, but I don't really know how to get to them. KL
