    Also, DFC, I bought a cigarette lighter extension from Radio Shack, cut off the end, added some solder to the wire and pushed them into the connector (black into brown wire, red into green wire), then covered everything with electrical tape.

    Any post '02 996 has the fiber optic MOST based head unit--no AUX-in is available. Period. Dension is supposed to come out with something, so you might as well put yourself on their waiting list. My FM modulator works fairly well--about 80% of the sound quality you might want. The Porsche radio seems better than my 7 series BMW for this purpose. It's a compromise, but it beats the lousy choice of radio stations in this area (NYC).

    Thanks, Tool Pants, that was easy! I found the connector by sliding the cubby out. After connecting the power, I made an opening in the top of the upper cubby I bought (on Ebay) in place of the CD holder (which I no longer need). The iPod just lies in there, but it's quite easy to change tracks, and I don't have to turn it on or off as it's wired into the ignition. If I feel like spending more time and effort, I'll upgrade to the iPod Mini and build some sort of cradle for it.

    I drive an '04 C 4 S Cab, 6-speed, midnight/grey. I am trying to hardwire the power connection for my iPod Monster iCarPlay FM modulator (having resigned myself to the unlikely availability of an AUX-in for MOST fiber-optic factory Becker head units). If I were to power into the cigarette lighter from behind, is there a chance of draining battery power when the ignition is off for an extended period? And what is the recommended installation procedure? Any help would be welcome.

    I've replaced the stock yellow sidemarkers with the clear ones (I wish all mods were this easy!). They came with yellow lightbulbs, while my original ones had clear bulbs. Is there any reason why I can't use these (clear bulbs) in the new clear sidemarkers as the yellow bulbs show, even when off? Safety regulations, perhaps?     Kirby, it worked! I had to switch a few of the leads around, but now I can control two openers with one switch. The most difficult part was finding enough room in the dash for both openers. My next project will be to swap my rear center console--I ordered a new one and had my local body shop paint it midnight blue. I'm waiting for the paint to cure before tackling this one. :)

    Thanks, Itzkirb, for the e-mail. I will try different combinations of the wires into the single switch---if it worked for you, it should be OK. Unfortunately, I am getting a new windshield today after a rock from a passing truck cracked it...oh well! (only 350 miles on my car when it happened).

    Msindi, thanks--I found Itzkurb's post. I tried the combined negative wires, but maybe because my sunroof switch differs from the Targa Roof Switch, it doesn't work. Should they be different?

    I hardwired the actual closer behind the button--I used the blank below my PSE.

    I've installed my garage opener using a sunroof switch. (I have an '04 C4S Cab) I would like to install a second switch for my electric gate, but I've run out of available blank spaces. Are there any dual-function switches I could use, or is there any other place I could utilize? What about the blank to the left of the light switch? I tried to use the sunroof switch for both applications, but I only manage to get either one of the remotes to work using all possible combinations of the 4 contacts in the back. I would appreciate any input--there must be others out there with the same issue.

    I want you guys to know that this board has already been an invaluable resource to me. Since buying my latest (and 8th) Porsche ('04 C4S Cab, midnight Blue/Grey) two weeks ago you have helped me immensely. Loren's fix cured an annoying squeak from the convertible top, and with your insights I have already installed aluminum pedals, a garage door opener, replaced the side lights and painted the rear cooling grilles silver. I am also working on having the rear center console and various dash pieces painted to match the midnight blue. At some point I will have to quit, before I challenge Don's Misty and the Orient Express! I wish the BMW E65 Board had the attitude and professionalism I have found here.

    Does anyone happen to know why Porsche devised the cut-off in the first place? There must have been a reason for it.

    Is there any way to get spray paint (in a can) to match my Midnight Blue (code 37W)? I would like to paint some interior trim pieces in my '04 C4S.

    With some help from Don, I finally took the plunge and removed the rear bumper from my brand new '04 C4S Cab (midnight blue/grey). It was then relatively easy to unclip the black plastic grilles on each side. I prepped and then painted them silver. The result makes this detail much more noticable in turbo-bodied cars painted a dark color. I hope my picture shows this. http://www.msnusers.com/BavariansC4SCab

    Thanks, Don--that's it! Now, of course, it remains to be seen how difficult it is to remove them. Maybe someone else has tried this before...

    Loren, actually I mean the large opening behind the rear wheel on the bottom near the tail-pipes (only on "S" and turbos.

    Hi everyone: I've just picked up my new '04 C4S Cab (midnight blue/grey/blue top, 6-sp, PSE, X71,X70,X54,thicker st. wheel) and I'm getting inspired by all the modifications I've read about on this board. My first install were the aluminum pedals. What I would like to know (from Loren or anyone else) is whether it is possible to remove and paint the black plastic grill in the rear side vents which help make the "S" and Turbo so distinctive in lighter colors. I thought I might order a spare set (part number?) and paint them silver, just to see how it turns out.
