  1. Thanks for the info. A run in the country at the weekend confirmed that it is running correctly (quieter between 25-45 mph). Sadly the PAS has packed up, so I need to sort that first before finding the time to wire in a switch. Thanks again, much appreciated. :)
  2. I have a power steering problem on my 2002 Boxster S. It has simply stopped working. There were no undue noises or obvious fluid loss. The first thing I did was to check the fluid level, it was not registering on the dipstick. It took less than 200ml to fill it up to the top (as I expected it to have airlocks and suck some on startup). On start up, nothing happened. Locking the steering a few times each way, I got one or two small bubbles, but nothing big enough to get a level drop. I then took off the inside access plate to have a better look. Everything looks correct. The belt isn’t slipping and the pulley and inner shaft of the pump are rotating as I’d expect. On taking the car for a drive with the covers on, but soundproofing removed, I could hear some light clicking noises when steering. I suspect this may just be the relief valve in the pump though. It doesn’t click at idle. I can’t hear any exhaust/bypass noise or whine at full lock. Though in truth, I never noticed any when the steering was working fully. The reservoir level does drop a couple of mm when the car is running and rises back a couple of mm when it’s off. I understand this is what should happen when the system pressurises. Is 2mm normal, or should it be more than this? I’m somewhat at a loss as to what the fault is. Anything else I can check or do before taking it to a dealer?
  3. Yes, you're spot on. The 02 is has the shower heads and visible drain pipes either side. There's a pic here, for anyone who'd like to see one: http://towerside.blogspot.com/2007/05/pors...ts-exhaust.html Thank you very much for the info. Though I am still a little confused. Though, please bear with me, I have a degree in engineering, so should be able to get my head around it! How should the system work? When does the car decide to be noisy and when is it quiet? Mechanically, how does it work. I Why have a solenoid and a vacuum feed to open/close a flap in the exhaust? Or is the solenoid vacuum powered and electrically switched? I assume the switch is push to make, or push to break and the relay is therefore the part that does the latches the state? I think I'll try grounding the grey/pink first to see how much difference I can hear before deciding on a switch. Thanks again.
  4. I have a 2002 986 S with PSE. The funny thing is that it doesn't sound any different to me. How can I test if it's working? Can I add the control switch? (Is that tricky?) Many thanks.
