  1. I tried to search this forum for the answer, but wasn't able to find one. I have an '06 997 S with the stock shift knob (and the sport short shifter underneath). I recently purchased the 997 turbo shift knob, and I'd like to remove my original shift knob to put on the new shift knob. Here's what I recently bought and want to replace my original knob with: On my previous 996 C4S, it was just a matter of using elbow grease and pulling up the original shift knob. Is this the case for the 997S as well, or is there a screw or some other added step? Many thanks in advance!
  2. I bought my '06 997S last April, and it came with two "real" keys and a valet key. Well, the remote on real key #1 failed after about a month; by that, I mean that the remote control lock/unlock/open the hood function didn't work anymore. The light on the key would still illuminate when I pressed the buttons on the key fob, though. But still no response from the car. Consequently, to use key #1, I would have to physically put the key in the door lock to unlock and lock the door. I just assumed the battery was dead. I then switched to using key #2. That worked well for the past few months, but now I'm experiencing the same problems as key #1. The remote simply doesn't work. The light on the key turns on, but not response from the car. Could it be that both key fobs have dead batteries? How is that possible on a four-month old car? Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thanks in advance. P.S. The car is not in "standby mode." The car did not go a few days without being started; I drive this car every day.
  3. Thanks so much for the insight, Loren. I would have thought that this kind of issue would be resolved by the second year of a particular model generation, but it seems not. I hope the fix is easy and, more importantly, effective.
  4. I have a one month-old 997S, and today, for the very first time, I experienced some strange issues with the electrical/electronic system. I was hoping someone might have some insights on these issues that I've experienced. First, as I got into the car to drive home from work this evening, the OBC was telling me that there were PSM and PASM failures. I turned off the car and restarted it, thinking it was just a brain glitch in the computer. When I restarted the car, the same two failure messages appeared. I started my trip home and, sure enough, the two failure messages were gone (and not stored on the OBC in any way). The drive home was normal. Upon pulling into my garage, I encountered my second issue: I turned off the car but could not remove the key (it wouldn't go into the first position). Not only that, but the whole car went completely dark: no interior lights, no ability to operate the electric windows, no PCM screen, no ability to centrally unlock or lock the doors, no ability to open either hood or trunk, no ability to start the car. After about half an hour of just sitting there trying to fiddle with things (and looking through the manual), I decided to try to use my second key to remotely lock/unlock the car. Nothing happened. Eventually, I closed both doors, and that somehow woke the car up. Strange. I then took the car on a drive. Again, the PASM and PSM failure lights turned on, and then turned off after twenty seconds. I put the Sport Chrono in "sport" mode (which also activates PASM in sport mode), and it seemed to work fine. But pushing on the "sport" button didn't automatically simultaneously turn PASM into "normal" mode like it should. Anyway, after driving a little more, I arrived at home again. But the key wouldn't come out and the car went dark again. After twenty seconds of fiddling, the car woke up . . . again. Now, the car seems normal. But have you ever heard of anything like this? Bizarre.
  5. Okay, found an answer to one of my questions. For Homelink instructions (in case anyone cares), go to this site, and click on "Programming for the first time." These instructions worked for me. http://www.homelink.com/training/train.taf?do=3
  6. Picked up a 997S this past weekend and am enjoying it. It is more fun to drive than my last 996 C4S. However, two questions: 1. Where can I find instructions to hardwire my V1 into the sunroof console area of the ceiling? In my 996, it was pretty easy. I've only found instructions for the 997 that involved actually soldering wires, which is a bit beyond my level. Is there any reason why the 996 instructions don't work with the 997? 2. What in the sam hill am I doing wrong regarding Homelink? I have a pretty common Genie rolling code garage door opener, and for the life of me, I can't get the Homelink buttons to work. I am: turning the car on; pressing the first and third Homelink buttons to clear out the buttons' memories; getting on a ladder and pushing the button in the garage door opener mechanism, to where the light blinks; pushing one of the Homelink buttons once, then twice; and, as far as I know, that should be it. But it doesn't work. It's rather annoying, so any help would be appreciated.
  7. I have searched the archives before posting this question, but I often didn't fully comprehend the previous posts. So I hope nobody gets annoyed at my question (because I know it has been covered in the past). I have three new trim pieces that I would like to install in the interior of my '04 C4S. I have an aluminum-look rear center console, an aluminum-look front center console (the upside-down U-shaped piece that surrounds the center air-conditioning vents and buttons), and an aluminum-look instrument surround. I was thinking about taking these pieces to the dealer to have them install it, but it just seems crazy to spend $200-$300 for that. I will if I must, but I'm hoping I can do this job myself. (1) For the rear center console, does anyone have instructions on not only how to remove the rear center console, but also to take off the glove box in the center console (and the lock), as well as the leather trim "wings" that are attached to the front of the rear center console. (2) For the front center console, I am confused on how to deal with the lighter and the buttons. (3) For the instrument surround, the instructions I found say something about disconnecting the battery. I don't understand why the battery must be disconnected when all I'm removing is a plastic trim piece. I must be just misunderstanding all of this. Can somebody please lend me their patience and insight? Thanks so much in advance.
  8. X911CarreraX, I think you are right. Installing the PSE without electronics means the PSE is on all the time, and you can't turn it off. There is also no 30-45mph cut out.
  9. DFC, I think your understanding is correct. At least, it's exactly the same as my understanding. :D
  10. I have a question for Loren (or for anyone else who knows). I picked up a new '04 C4S this weekend that has the Porsche Sports Exhaust as a factory option. Because I didn't want the 30-45mph automatic cut-out in the PSE and instead wanted the PSE to be in full "on" mode for the entire speedometer range, TC (Houston) and I removed the jumper as shown in Loren's great instructions. Now the PSE sings its song during the entirety of all my drives! However, TC and I couldn't remember if there were any downsides to removing the jumper. I did a quick search on this board, and it seems like removing the jumper affects the Sat/Nav functions in PCM, but is that it? I don't have PCM, so does that mean I have no downsides? Does removing the jumper affect whether the dealer can set my doors to lock at 5mph? Thanks for any insight anyone may have.
