  1. Hey, Nehmaiz I just noticed a leak in the same spot as yours, very small amount of oil (weeping). I have a tiptronic 2000 with 51k. Did you ever find out the source of the leak? I am hoping it is not the RMS or IMS. I called a few shops in the Metro Detroit area and they all quoted me $1,200 just to replace RMS and another $1k to do the IMS also. I am hoping some connector is loose. The oil is very clean.
  2. Thanks guys....to assure no airbag light, Do I have the steps correct: Step 1) Disconnect the negative battery cable before you start. (Very Important!) Step 2) Then I can turn the ignition on, rotate the wheel, use the torx and disconnect the air bag? Step3) After everything is back together (siliconed the bushings), Next, Turn the ignition key to off and pull out key? Step 4) Then it is safe to hook up the battery? p.s. can I use regular silicone (as another user did) or does it have to be hi-temp? Thanks a lot!!!
  3. Hey guys, I have a 2000 MY Carrera with 45k (Tip). On my way home today, when I hit a bump (while holding steering wheel) my horn beeped. I can hear something making noise (like a short) somewhere in the steering column (possibly by the airbag). Not sure what to do? I currently unplugged the fuse to the horn. Any ideas on where to check where the loose wire may be?
  4. Thanks, when I get home from work, I will make the attempt.
  5. Loren, is that part of the horseshoe a seperate piece? should i start prying on any particular side first? Thanks!
  6. Hey can anyone tell me how to take the faceplate off the proper way, so I can re-attach the Lock/Unlock button on my 996. Somehow it has been pushed in (not sure if clip is broke). I would like to do it properly without damaging anything. Appreciate suggestions. Thanks!
  7. Two local dealers recommend staying with the 0W-40. I do notice the engine running to warm though in summer months.
  8. Hey guys, I am about to change my oil. I live in Michigan so most are familiar with the weather. For the last 6 oil changes I have used Mobil 1 0W-40, any recommendations goingt to a different weight? If so, please explain? Thanks!
  9. Hey guys, I have a 2000 996 Tip with 38k miles. Not 100% for sure which gear i am at the time (maybe 3rd or 4th), but when I decide to give it full throttle and the computer tells the car to downshift, I get a hard shift noise, and then shoot off like a rocket? What gives? Variocam? Over the 5yrs of ownership, even though I only experienced this happend to me a handful of times I am curious? Thanks!
  10. Will i do any damage to the car, if I drive it the way it is temporarily? do you remember the part numbers? I have a 2000
  11. Were you able to clearly see a crack in the coilpack(s)? Before you decided to replace them? Also who did you deal with at Oklahoma Foreign? I may decide the same route, since I don't plan on keeping the car more than one/two yrs. What plugs did you buy?
  12. Hey guys I have a MY00 996 Tip with 38k miles. I just took the car out of storage two weeks ago. This morning after having the car sit in the garage for a week (35 degrees outside) at startup I notice a ping/pop sound while idling. Also the check engine light blinked a few times and went away. So I drive to work anyway. Once I get to work roughly 16miles of a drive, I remembered I had my OBDII reader in car (real basic one). I pulled two codes P0300 & P0306 (misfire/cylinder 6). Now after doing quick searches I find out it may be a cracked coil? What are the chances my spark plugs need to be replaced? I planned on changing them soon. Not sure what next steps are? Due to tough economic times, can't really afford to spend too much money. I greatly appreciate everyones assistance. Coil pack part number? Price(s)? Spark Plug part number? Price(s)? Thanks!
  13. Hey guys I about to order the Mintex pads. Sensor light is not on, therefore no sensor to buy. But what about the dampers and retainer kit? Should I buy them? The car only has 34k miles on it. Thanks!
  14. Thanks! Just spoke to rep yesterday and they told me soft on rotors. wow! I appreciate your response. What other brand do you recommend, without breaking the bank? I'm using a set on my C2. I got them at Pelican parts. I started using the BHP pads for track, and got these as a cheap option to use on the street. The bad news is that they are very hard. The performance is not great, and they are very hard on the rotors. I replaced the rotors at the same time as I put these pads on, and they grooved the rotors in less than 9 months. Not to mention the noise... (altough I re-use the vibration liners, so they aren't glued to the pads). I'm not going to buy them again. I don't have a better option yet. The BHP pads dust way too much and wear way too fast for the street. I'm thinking of going to another OEM vendor for street pad use (probably Pagid). -Judd
