I've done oil changes on most of my cars, and would like to continue with my 2007 cayman. Has anyone out there done this, are there any technical online resources that would give instructions?????
Anything I need to watch out for ?????

I noticed the same noise from mine, at first kept thinking the hatch wasn't shut. Glad to know it's nothing to worry about.

I just bought a 2007 cayman (2.7). Has 600 miles on the clock. I recently noticed that when I start it up in the morning, I get a cloud of white oil smoke, which immediately clears. I assume this is from oil which has seeped into the cylinders while sitting. I went to the dealer , who told me not to worry, it's normal. Still, seems weird to me. Doesn't smoke any other time, and oil consumption is not excessive. Anyone had the same experience ? Is the dealer being straight with me ???
DIY oil change for Cayman
in Cayman, Cayman S (987C1)
Posted
Thanks, guys. I recently did a successful oil change, with the help of a very nice DIY article posted on the Cayman Club site. It noted that 7.75 liters converts into 8.2 quarts US , the way we get the Mobil 0-40. I put that much in , and it was perfect, one bar below the top. The oil in the car was pretty dirty. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems to run a little better. 20,000 mile intervals just seem too long. Now that I see how easy it is, I think 5000 miles will be my norm. I've put full synthetic in my race car, a sports 2000, for the last 16 years, change it after every race. Really cuts down on the engine rebuilds.
