  1. Loren and Dave, Thanks for your comments. This 996 is such a fun car - worth every penny and fun to mod. I also feel confident knowing that I have these great forums with knowledgable people to rely on. Mahalo, Walter
  2. Gentlemen and Ladies, My hats off to you and many thanks for your valuable comments in helping me mod my 911. With the help of the members of Rennlist, Renntech, and 6speedonline, I now have a fun car that I truly enjoy driving every day. The Targa is a great compromise between a convertible and coupe. I’ve had a 2006 S2000, but it was underpowered and very noisy (wind and traffic). I thought I’d never do this much to my car but it just slowly creeped up on me where now I did quite a lot and counting... Mods: Cooling – Third Radiator (Thanks to Jeff@Sunset), Loren DIY Shifting – B&M SSK (Thanks to Eric@Bumperplugs) Interior – Shelf, ashtray delete, Quietcar coated all interior, tint, garage and spoiler switches (Renntech) Exterior – Clear bra, smoke turn signals, clear brake light, shark fin Tires – Michelin PS2s 225/40/18 on 8”, 295/30/18 on 10” (no spacers) Mufflers – MKII mod, polished tips (Renntech) Engine – RSS Plenum, BMC filter, (Thank to Greg@RSS) Diagnostic - Durametric At 21,500 miles, I got a spot of the RMS leak. Out of my curiosity and Loren's suggestion to have this checked out, I ordered the special tools and did a one person RMS seal, clutch, and bolts upgrade. Safety first, I jacked up the car very carefully from each jacking point with the additional points under both sides of the crossmember. I also used my rear tires with boards under the sides to support the car if the stands failed. I used a cheap 15.00 transjack adapter from JC Whitney to ensure that the angle of the trans was consistent with removal and installation. Overall I took 20 hours (not rushing), the top bolt and the horseshoe bracket at the trans were a pita to remove. I hope that this will help the folks that are contemplating a DIY. I would easily do this again just for the $16.00 seal - do not be afraid of RMS! Sorry but I did not have the patience to take a lot of pictures. Safety first - please be carefull! Aloha, Walter
