  1. Hi' Forum I have been searching for a replacement for my 8Bit Navigation-cd reader for my PCM-1 so I can use 2006 / 2007 cd's from Navtech - the old 8bit 2001 discs are pretty useless in my opinion. I have found this unit for sale: 996.642.122.12 EWD (what does ewd stand for ?) from a 2002 porsche. As far as I know this unit-serial is a 16Bit unit, can someone confirm this ? - I have read that all units with serial 996.642.122.03 or more (04,05,06,07 +) are 16bit. Will this work with my PCM1 unit in my car if I just replace the navigation-1DIN cd reader or do I need special 'porsche dealer' software ? My Boxster is a 98' 2.5
  2. That is very cool !! Congratulations in your awesome work! The faceplate for your Pioneer unit, where did get this ? It looks very OEM, and VERY GOOD!! If you made it yourself, please just mention your price for another one - I have the savannah interior like you and the only reason I am not getting a Pioneer installation is because I cannot find a faceplate like the one you have! Where did you put your Pioneer HardDrive ? What about the unit under the Pioneer, isnt that a CD-Changer - is that now disabled ?
  3. Great tip ! I just wrote them... Anyone else ?? - I cant believe there is no online shop that has this item in stock :)
  4. I must say it looks nice - but the faceplate and non-original look is still a bit of a issue for me, I have to concider it ! If anyone knows a PCM1-16bit shop with a pretty fair price please let me know :)
  5. Yes, I have looked into this but I cannot make my own faceplate to make the Pioneer fit and besides the picture you just showed me I havnt seen any DIY installations I liked. However I have the same interor as you and I think what you have done is very impressive. Can you help me with instructions to where to buy this ? How about fuel economy, phone and aircon-settings ? Kind regards Morten
  6. Hello, My old PCM1 8bit is not working as it should and therefor I plan to switch it to a PCM1 16bit... I am keeping a eye on e-bay, but havent found anything in Europe yet. Do any of you know of place to get this - Design911 and Jasmine Porsche havent got it the part. In denmark I can get the part for 17.500 with CD's but I hope someone knows a cheaper solution used or new :) Thanks in advance !
  7. Hello Forum, I just called CarSound in Denmark, who are specialist in navigation integration in cars and asked for a alternative to my PCM and they pointed these two products out: http://www.carsound.dk/produkt.asp?id=5184&kid=35 http://www.carsound.dk/produkt.asp?id=5182&kid=35 They said it would be possible to install this by removing the PCM module in my Porsche and fitting the HardDrive where the CD-Changer is. Has anyone tried this or something similar in their car ? If I remove my PCM I will loose information about fuel economy, and I will gain a DIN-slot where the navigation CD reader was before. Is there a 1DIN Porshce unit I could fit in the empty NavigationPCM Cd reader slot - a small bord-computer or something where I could see fuel economy ?
  8. thats a great answer... I just got mine, a 98' boxster that had driven 120.000 - I actually never concidered that to be 'much' ! My parents have had VW Ventos that went 300.000 without eniges blowing :) But I read on this forum and became a bit paranoid - Before I bought the car I read a newspaper article that the Boxster was the car with least 'big problems' of ALL cars between 8-9 years of age, but on this forum there are so many horrible stories even brand new cars go up in smoke and some people have had 2,3 and 4 engines so suddenly I though my boxster was on the verge of breaking down.. I will take mine to a super-checkup - I am sure they will find some stuff and I will make sure every bit gets fixed and ask for proper instructions on maintnence ! Thanks again for the reply...
  9. Hi' I was wondering... How many kms do you think is the typical lifespan of a 986 2.5l boxster engine ? - I know its hard to say, but a qualified guess ! And what is the price of a new one if a engine breaks down ? Kind regards Morten
  10. Hello everyone ! I have a OLD phone in my boxster and I never use it... I was concidering replacing the phone with something else more usefull! I have looked around the forum for ideas :) Has anyone replaced the phone with something more modern like a iPod dock with FM transmitter ! Please let me know if you got good suggestions or DYI tips :) Kind regards Morten
