  1. Have you tried the DIY section on this forum? Many pearls of wisdom at a price that can't be beat.
  2. You will always find a great variety of answers to the type of questions that you ask. There are really two answers; either you follow the wisdom of the manufacturer or you follow your own beliefs. Personally, when it comes to what I deem to be reasonably priced maintenance items such as the poly rib belt, transmission fluid, engine oil, fuel filter etc. I tend to change these items more frequently than recommended. My theory is that you cannot damage a vehicle by changing the fluids, fuel filter, belts ....... too frequently. Am I wrong? Do I spend more money on maintenance than is necessary? Am I OCD? It is just something that I can live with What are you comfortable with?
  3. Great, now what?? I knew I should not have fed them after midnight
  4. I too am losing the audio settings so I anxiously await a knowledgable response. Those rims look great.
  5. I use a Valentine-1 and a built in K-40 (www.k40.com). The V-1 gives a much earlier warning than the K-40 most likely due to the position of the antena. The V-1 is mounted high inside the windscreen while the K-40 antenae are mounted low in the front bumper and the rear license plate ring. Valentine-1 with remote display
  6. 700 miles to New Orleans last summer and then back. I have done this trip multiple times in other autos (Acura Tl, Toyota Sequoia) and the 996 was equal or better, with regards to comfort, as any of them. More noise however, equal or better comfort and better fuel economy.
  7. If all diagnostics are within spec you may consider a "force balance" (I believe is what it it called) or perhaps load balance. Not real expensive however, not all shops can perform this test and the tires must be warm before testing. I once had a 7 series BMW with a shake in the steering that would not respond to any corrective measures. The aforementioned balance demonstrated a bad belt in the tire. New front tires promptly fixed the problem.
  8. You might try Tom Frederico 858-883-2655 I know that he was producing form fitted replacement carpets for some high end cars however, I am not sure about Porsches. If this post is against rules, I appologize (and please delete it) however, I do not think any of our vendors sell carpets.
  9. Try MB Quartz, I believe they make a speaker that will fit. Not cheap however, good quality and sound.
  10. I have similar observations. Sent off an oil sample for analysis and all was well
  11. Loren, Thank you for the information. I purchased the vehicle out of warranty with no rattles and/or problems. The slight rattle showed up after spending two months on the not so friendly streets of New Orleans last summer. Unfortunately this is one that I will have to live with or pay out of pocket. I have no leaks and the rattle is not a significant problem (even as anal as I am) so, unless it gets worse; I will live with it. Me dealer and there Porsche tech do not like to hear that I had educated myself from internet sources. In fact, they were uncomfortable with my knowledge of the TSBs and challenged internet sources in general rather than answering my questions. Go figure???? A customer actualy interested in his car .....
  12. Loren, I was told by my local dealer that this particular TSB called for between 12 and 15 hours labor plus the cost of the two parts. What is your input regarding this? What is the price on the parts? I emailed Sunset a month ago and never received a quote. I have a little rattle once in a while however, nothing to warrant the cost described above if the dealer is in fact correct.
  13. wxseed, Any luck yet as I just noticed my other one is now out. AAAAHHHH!!!! I am sure that mine will not be the relay as they went out sequentially a few weeks apart. Perhaps my other bulb has reached its useful lifespan as well.
  14. Any possibility that both bulbs are out? Only reason I ask is because one of mine just decided that it had served it's useful life span. Next project
  15. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=15506&hl= I changed the pulley only and reused the old bolt, thus not having to disassemble everything, as that was my problem. The tensioner was OK in my case. I hope this helps. Jared
  16. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=16599&hl= I was having some similar problems and the group here was kind enough to share information with me however, I ran out of time and patience to do it myself. I am sure that it is very achievable with the instruction though.
  17. That's it!!!! I appreciate all of your assistance with regards to this matter however, it goes to the stealer this week. I have run out of time and patience on this task. The dealer is telling me that it is the motor; which I know is probably BS however, I ordered a new motor to go along with the regulator and both will be changed. I usually change everything associated with any problem anyway to avoid future inconveniences. This will be the case here but I will not be doing the work; this time. I have worked on my own BMWs for nearly twenty years and I have now been thwarted. Thank God the human body makes more sense to me or I wouldn't have a job.
  18. I have the door panel off. Thanks to all for your input on that little task. Am I correct in assuming that everything must be removed from the door such as airbag and speaker assembly? What are you guys using to replace / repair the gray liner after cutting into it?
  19. OK, finally getting some time to change this thing and step one is causing some problems. How do I remove the inside door pull trim? I have full leather and do not want to damage anything. History ... I have a bad habit of forcing things until they break and I do not want a re-occurrence on my full leather trim.
  20. Looks like a K40 radar detector. http://k40.com/home_main.html I have one in my car (front and rear detectors) and I also use a Valentine 1. The Val 1 is superior in detection most likely due to the fact that the detectors of the K40 are mounted so low.
  21. Pulling under acceleration is most likely rear tire pressure imbalance or alignment. Of course check the easier of the two first. The alignment would be covered under the Porsche warranty before they can sell the car.
  22. I am patiently awaiting the arrival of my regulator from the West coast -_- (Sunset) Will report back after I have it changed.
  23. 1schoir, Thank you for the very informative reply. I will be ordering the regulator this week. Jared
  24. Back to top Does anyone know or have any experience with this problem?
  25. For a few months now my passenger window would periodically roll all the way down upon opening that door instead of stopping at the 1/2" or so point. There would then be some very quiet noise from that window as if it was trying to figure out what to do for approx. 5-10 seconds. During this time, input through the window control switch will go without response. After this time the window would function properly. Two days ago, I noticed that the window no longer drops the 1/2" upon opening, when it does stop as it is supposed to instead of going all the way down. It will make a sound as if it is dropping properly however only move an unappreciable amount. I know that this is confusing as I am having a difficult time describing the problematic behavior. After reading other threads, I am thinking that it may be the window regulator. Does this sound correct? Any other considerations?
