  1. phew :D RFM thanks. if could add you as friend twice i would do that or give you a star of the forum award (With Loren too :)
  2. Had to take battery off to charge (didnt realize it also drunk almost 1L of water in 18 months). 1. Put battery back and could not find setting for date neither on PCM nor on board computer. went through the manual where it says how to change time and format for the date but nothing about changing date itself. Silly question, what am i missing? searched this forum but found nothing about this. Is this a PIWIS job? 2. Is the issue of changing battery with less than 1/3 of fuel been fixed for C4 from 2003 onwards?
  3. Changed oil on 2009 Cayenne T but dint look for the second plug. Later found this post and started wondering, looked at PET pictures but could not find that second plug neither on oil-conducting housing (948 107 071 54) no on oil pan (there is only one on picutre 900 219 020 31). Am i missing something or these pictures not correct (Pet update 235 - latest). DOnt want to go under and take all panels off just to satisfy my curiosity. Anybody knows? BTW thanks to this forum for a tip about ziplock bags and oil filter changes.
  4. testing fuel pumps two fuses in the engine compartment 13 and 14. take one out and start the car if car works fine the the other fuel pump is out. take the other fuse out - car should not run...
  5. Just looked in PET - my car has garage-door opener. When i first tried to program it no lights came out. Which fuse is it on? NAV PCM 3: what is part 997 642 271 50. looks too cheap to be a map set. IPOD part 955 612 642 30 - sounds too good to be true again - so if i buy this part and connector my IPOD will work with PCM 3? :o --------- found out myself ----- garage door opener is fuse 42 right side box. (marked as "roof module")
  6. Thank you. The car is only 5k but there is an oily spot on front left cover panel. This is US version which keeps coming up with a service reminder (3k miles). Not sure what it is about but will change oil just in case and get dealer to clear reminder if they do this TSB
  7. If i give a french dealer tsb number 2130 will they pull out the same French TSB or is it more complicated? this is probably question to RFM
  8. thanks for reply. it may be worth putting into DYI maintanance checklist. so what is the service reminder at 3k miles?
  9. Is oil change procedure on v8 the same as V6? What is the size of oil filter wrench? What is in 3k miles service apart from oil change? (or the broader question is Service checklist for Gen 1 and 2 the same)? Is service covered by new car warranty? thanks in advance
  10. wow, thanks for sharing, do you put your keys on the wheel or behind sunvisor when you park? btw... if were to steal you car i would spend $300 for one of these http://www.cell-phone-jammers.com/portable...mer.html#jammer
  11. Can you just remove original lamps and replace w/ these xenons? Are they plug and play or do they require changes to computer/wiring/etc? Thanks by looking at the parts catalog its headlights, wiring harness and maybe relay that show as different part numbers depending on xenon or normal lights (there is also control unit for xenon which is screws to the headlight unit underneth
  12. This is my experience. Info may have changed since July 2008 I am under no obligation to update this post. Car tested - Cayenne 2008 New car– Dealers will not sell new car to a non-USA person Solution: a. find good friend/relative with USA address b. arrange insurance (if mandatory in state of purchase) c. pay at dealer for car, sales tax (no way to get refund), registration, plates d. dealer gives you plates (NY state) – car is now on the road e. dealer sends docs to DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) New title in some states like NY can take up to 3 months to arrive from (DMV) ! It will be in your friends/relative's name! Two options while waiting for a title to arrive: 1. storing a car straight away, returning plates and canceling insurance 2. keeping plates, paying insurance, driving around Second-hand car – Do (c ) from above Get title at dealership/from private seller with your name on it. Drive (in which case do ( b ) above) or use flatbed to get car to warehouse Call shipping brokers after 4-5 quotes you will get idea of cost. Ask about container availability, docs required cancellation charge. You cannot ship car without Original title. (Don't trust brokers who say they can do it. Once you sign up with them there is no easy way out after they tell you: "we tried but things changed" ) I used Sterling international to ship (good but expensive). At the end remember they are just brokers so if something lost/broken they will call the shipper and deal with shipper (something you can do yourself if you want to save money). Bought marine insurance – had no claim so no comment. Car at warehouse (check-in: take pictures, get condition report similar to rental car form, warehouse will have them. kiss your car - with current weather pattern it may become good diving reef. throw in a set of jumper cables as battery could be dead at the other end, dont cover car - it makes no protection inside container but will damage paint as is shifts during sail) Send title and sale contract to broker, car is custom cleared, put on boat (http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml). Receive title and contract back from shipper by mail Forward docs to local broker (I used one for sending and another for receiving car at terminal and doing customs papers. for ease USA shipping broker can do both ends for you (they will still subcontract local broker but you dont have to deal with them)) Container arrives at port Pay EU taxes through shipping broker: Import (10%) plus VAT (15-19% depending on country and based on car price + Import duties). Law says taxes should be paid on purchase price in USA+shipping+insurance+cost of modification. Think of making a sale contract which states purchase price in Euro (currency hedge) and delivery at your country port. You then have a ground to pay taxes on basis of price in contract (who pays insurance and transport you decide with seller but for him there is no extra tax on that). Take car In France http://riviera.angloinfo.com/countries/fra...otoregister.asp longest wait is letter from Porsche France Euro 170 and takes 3 weeks. Get it while car is on boat have to send them a copy of title For Cayenne 2009 letter stated: 1. Visual (lights) – don't conform 2. Seat belts – ok 3. Windows – ok 4. Rear view mirror – don't conform so.... what to do: A. Lights front: marked DOT – no good. Has to have letter E in circle (beam patterns are identical between DOT USA Xenon and Continental Europe. DOT USA lights have no switch for beam for LHD-RHD). Had to buy new (ebay has plenty, bought for GBP450 and sold for GBP500 - so free change for me here). (btw i didnt see any external "DOT" or "E" marking at all on Gen1 headlights) B. rear turn signals have to be yellow not red (you can put yellow bulb or buy new set which is silly as external appearance is identical. E and DOT mark cannot be seen when installed) C. Side marking lights on the front have to be set in PIWIS as directional indicators, put yellow bulb if plastic is clear or keep yellow plastic which is ugly (no rewiring). D. Right mirror – get European right mirror glass (less curvy than USA version and no text on it). Left is OK. NO other changes were required for my car to register in France Other known to me obvious differences EU vs USA which were irrelevant to registering: 1. key transmitter and homelink frequency is different (get couple new keys in the USA– cheaper there anyway) 2. analog dashboard in MPH (digital speedometer could be switches to KM/H from PCM for ethtetics I bought KM/h dials at e-bay for Euro60, changed myself, please PM if you need instructions on how to change dials) 3. Radio – adjusted to EU format by itself in my case 4. Rear door - shape for number plate is square and doesn't fit well European plates – esthetics issue (can buy on e-bay from junk yards about gbp400) 5. Navigation- new maps from porsche DVD disk Euro380 Conclusion – 15 days after car arrival at port have new plates (could have done all in 3 days but had to make appointment with technice contrlle (MOT/TUV equivalent) two weeks in advance to confirm that I made changes. ) Cost of homilogation: Headlights - zero Rear lights - zero Mirror - Euro80 Navigation E380
  13. does anybody know what is the difference in description of 955.731.038.02 and 955.731.040.02 ? why dont porsche distribute parts catalogs for Cayenne's 2007- to everybody? cannot see how it will damage their commerce but would save people tons of time....
  14. no flaps or sills (not sure what they are) but i ordered no options on my Caynne 2009 turbo. (us version)
  15. what is the number for arch extension for 2008 Caeyne Turbo? thanks
  16. as always many thanks. do you happen to know which wire it is?
  17. Trying to figure out which wire is for fuel indicator on instrument panel. (Cayenne 2008 Turbo) Do i need to clear any codes or connect PIWIS (trip to dealer) if i unplug and replug the dashboard? thank you.
  18. dont understand. you can look up whether i have a homelink option from vin? (because i know very well which mirror i have - not dim, heated+memory+foldable)
  19. thank you for reply. so is this called "importer technical service" at Porsche or he has to call Porsche in my country (France)? I also tell him that maps are now on PIWIS and he just have to download it to PCM3?
  20. what is the difference between the mirror (glass itself) for heated mirror and a heated mirror with memory function/foldable (both not dimming)? difference in price is like 3.5 times. I only need new glass and dont want to pay usd300. if the difference only in backside mounting plastic presumably i can glue new glass onto broken one. dont care if it is heated or not. any ideas are appreciated. homelink - when buttons are pressed either one by one or together (the reset procedure) no led light comes on. is it possible that i dont have this option even though buttons are there? (checked all fuses - all fine) Thanks in advance
  21. this is bad news - my dealer knows nothing. i had to tell them (from your advice) that turn lights are configured on PIWIS as they wanted to install new wires :(. Is this procedure described somewhere in a dealer manual so that i can tell them where to read? btw, thank for your previous replies
  22. Thank you, you are correct MY2009 Cayenne side markers are changed to turn signals via PIWIS, so is radio (settings) and DVD coding (not like it makes any difference). all i need to know now is how to load European map on US PCM3 (but that project can wait)
