  1. Loren rocks.... I love reading his stuff too... Cheers to Loren~ Paul
  2. Don't foret gents, even if you wire it up correctly you still have to go in and turn it on by programing it into the computer... Another reason why I just let my dealeship tackle this one for me. The guys down here at Pioneer are just great! I would personally reccomend Shaun Puno (Service advisor) and Moe (Master mechanic) any time.
  3. I had Pioneer Porsche in San Diego do mine... After looking around for wiring instructions I finally got fed up and just let them do it. At first I too wanted the stock lever (mostly for the look). Then when I was told the cost I opted for one button. By doing it with one button you lose the speed gong functionality... I had them wire it for 2 buttons but have yet to install the second. Funny thing though, the installer (Moe) had a real diffacult time getting the button to light up when the head lights are turned on. . . So if and when I take it back, he wants to fiddle with it a little more. He said that it was the strangest thing that he ever saw... Paul
  4. INHO- YOur best bet is to call Eric at www.Bumperplugs.com, He is the best! :-) Paul
  5. Mine is doing the same but it is coming from more up front...I particularly notice it when I go over a speed bump or enter a driveway at an angle. It is more of a creaking noise and the guys here at Pioneer Porsche in SD said that there are two metal bars or braces behind the dash that have a tendency to rub... Their solution is to give it to them for 1/2 a day and they will pull the dash apart & put a piece of felt between them... Apparently it is a comon problem and while not hard to fix technically, it is fairly labor intensive.
  6. Point well taken, maybe I'll return it and get a Tivo for my home instead... This is turning into an extensive project. Paul
  7. 4.65 in W x 2.91 in H x 1.26 in D (118 mm x 74 mm x 32 mm) I need to get a ruler out and measure the the accesory tray right above the bat wing too to see if it may fit there as well... Paul Here is there installation manual (pgs. 7-12) http://www.xmradio.com/manuals/skyfi_installation.pdf
  8. Excellent suggestions gentlemen... Tobler, can you send me a picture of the charcoal filter's location? I for the life of me remember where that thing is... Paul PS I will definitely have the pro's put it in... but If I can't get to look good I may return it and get something else instead... :-)
  9. I just got as a birthday gift a XM satelite radio with a Gift cert. for a free install from Bestbuy... 1. Any sugestions on the install to keep the factory look? :D 2. I also have teh CDR 220... Is it compatible? 3. Can / should I have the installers try to hook it up to it some how? Paul
  10. Ok I went to a local Auto X and was searching for opinions on tires... First off I live in Sunny San Diego where it is never less than 72 degrees and rains about 1" a year... B) Knowing this, multiple reputable 996drivers and three open wheel cart professionals recommend for my car the Kumho MX. Ok so now you need to know: I have 18" factory chrome rims on a C2 with stock suspension (USA)... My car is for the most part a daily driver, but on the weekends I love to participate in local PCA club rides and few of us let loose so to speak. So my question to you is: For almost double the price and the Porsche "N" rating should I still go with the Pilot Sports or am I wasting my money...? Paul
  11. I was at the PCA Performance Driving School this weekend and alot of us were interested in the clear bra type shielding, especially for Auto X. :drive: After carefully inspecting a few of them, I found that it looks great when only on the front bumper and headlights. I do not like how certain manufacturers will also do half of the hood and half of the side fenders as well. This looks very cheap and you can see a distinct line running horitontally accross your hood. IMHO-I urge you to either do the front bumper & head lights only ... or cover everything (Bumper, both lights, entire hood, & the entire side fenders.) On a side note if you plan on any Auto X. and have a wide body or "S" model you may want to consider the rear fenders that are flared out as well "Just my .02 cents..." Paul
  12. Your probably right... Sounds like this may be more hastle than it is worth to have Eric paint them too... What do you think Mitty? Paul
  13. The best price so far is $130 from Brandywine Porsche and my buddies at Pioneer Porsche here in SD may put it in for free... I just have to bring them lunch one day . . . What are your thoughts? Paul
  14. I blasted Eric a email... Maybe we can get a Renntech group discount? ;-) Paul
  15. Called La Porsche and they only sell the complete pull assembly: $150 Called Brandywine and they too only sell the complete assembly: $130 There has got be a more cost effective fix. . . Hmmmm
  16. I hate to be anal retentive but... the prior owner of my 996 must have worn one of those big *** dive watches or something on his wrist... Cuz, the driver's side door pull is all scratched up. :( You know... the aluminium looking tear dropped handle used to open / unlock the door ...? I tried calling a few places for a replacement but had no luck. Thus I need your help. Got any suggestions on finding a replacement or maybe the cost to re-paint? :help: Paul PS So far I tried : Pelican Parts, Brandywine, Parts Heaven, Ebay, Pioneer Porsche. . .
  17. I'll hit up the auto parts store tomorrow for a new bulb... I tried just wiggling the socket/spring.... but no luck. Where is the trunk micro switch located at? Paul
  18. Some times it works intermittently , sometimes it don't? <_< Any thoughts? Paul
  19. I tried Lexol and Meguiars' products and had no luck... Pioneer Porsche in San Diego gave me a few more "guys" to call about getting mine refurbished ... I'll let you know what the costs and results soon... Paul
  20. I'm in the same boat... See post below: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2784 Paul
  21. I got a quote today to have the two front seats "sprayed for" $400 total. I think I am going to shop around... Paul
  22. I got a quote today for basic black carpet installed (3 days job) for $900-$1000 including the door panels... I'm gonna search around for a better deal. Paul
  23. Hmmmm no one knows the answer huh? When I figure it out I'll let you know... Paul
  24. How much is it going to cost me to change the color of my carpet in my 99' coupe, including the door carpet as well? Paul I have the boxster red and it is fading (especially on the doors)... I want to go black carpet with boxster red leather interior... Then add some floor mats to match witht he porsche crest and I am in business!!! B)
