  1. Ah yes but how did they fix it...? Spray or new panels and what kind of costs am I looking at?
  2. :( I have a 99 C2 with 60k miles and I am begining to notice cracking in the leather on the driver's side seat panels near my left thigh & flank area. . . I presume this is from the years getting in and out of the car. Lexol conditioner has done a wonderful job up until now but . . . My question is with the boxster red leather: Can anything be done? Touch up vs. new panels? and in your experience, what whould be the cost diference? Paul
  3. You guys are the best! Thanks for all your input... Paul PS I should have some new pictures of my newest mods up before the weekend is up... Next the the V1 !!!
  4. Ok... I got pulled over for the first time in years... I was going 75mph in a 65mph "Fastrak" carpool lane... Nothing compared to how I would like to be driving my car. Long story short I got out of the ticket, but this made me think? Hmmm I sure coulda used a fancy radar detector? I read on the Renntech forums that the Valentine 1 is the top of the line... 1. Can you give me some personal feedback? 2. I read that most also chose to hard wire it... If you have a similar car to mine,(99' 911 coupe) can you tell me the pros/cons to various mounting locations? 3. Where is the best place to purchase one other than factory? Ebay has them for cheap but rumor is that that the software might be old? Any thoughts to this? 4. Is it true that California CHP officr keep their radar on at all times and that the police only turn it on for speed traps or when following someone to establish their avg speed? Paul :drive:
  5. Well I got the clips on Monday & took them along with the skirts to the Porsche's recommended body shop here in San Diego. When I showed him the after market performance product skirts, he was disappointed. They were heavier, & would need to be glued for sure because the dobla stick tape would not hold. He then pointed out to me a bunch of minor imperfections (pitting & chafing) and inconsistencies (rough edges) that he said while they were fixable, they looked like a pain to install and may run me more on the install. When I told him that I still may be able to return them to PP and get the OEM Porsche version rom Brandy Wine Porsche for almost the same price, he was much happier and felt safer with guaranteeing the job. So, I hopefully will have them installed by next weekend and will update My garage soon. . . Kudos to Performance Products, cuz they were great about the refund! & more kudos to the body shop for the informative lesson... Paul
  6. I purchased my Aero Kit side skirts from Perfromance Products recently, & they came with out any hardware or instructions. I called them up and Today in the main they finally mailed me the screws, washers and clips. Still no instructions. The skirts are heavy black urethane rubber looking and have a thin double stick tape on them as well. Feeling slightly dissapointed, I called back PP they said that this heavy duty urethane rubber is the latest in body shop technology... (Supposedly paints easier, resists cracking and chips.) they did state that it is a aftermarket product buy that they have had no complaints so far. Loren, Can you email me the instructions on how to mount these? Do I need any specuial glues? cuz the tape looks cheap... Will it even hold? Will it look like crap if I don't use a glue as well?
  7. Nazz, you rock! Looks great :clapping: Thanks... Paul Let me know when you get your "My Garage page" up and running, I'd love to see more pics...
  8. Come to think of it... I haven't seen the aero front bumper that will fit the 99's for sale separately. I have seen the GT 2 & 3 bumpers. & I have seen the GT lower lip spoiler add on in Perf Products... Hmmmm, Has anyone seen anything else for sale out there that matches nicely with the rounded flowing aero side skirts? Paul
  9. That was my initial thought first . . . & your confirmation makes me feel a little more at ease Thanks, Paul
  10. When I recently purchased mine, it too had a small leak... We first noticed a smelly, white chalky substance on my left tail pipe tip. I took it to the dealer, they fixed it and then cleaned up the residue. *Don't forget to clean up the white chalky stuff on the tip or else it will continue to smell. Paul PS I paid the $600 cuz they said that it was a pain in the butt to get back to the tank reservoir ...
  11. I just purchased the factory aero skirts for my 99' C2 Coupe. I was wondering if anyone has installed them without the matching front bumper? I would love to preview what my car might look like if you know what I mean... If you have done this can you send me a photo(s) or possibly a link to your Garage? If you think that it is going to look completely silly then what do you suggest? (I live in Southern California: Land of speed bumps, steep driveways and dips in the road. As much as I would love the performance/look of it, I'm sure my car would not like the lower clearance in the front as it would probably get all scrapped up... Not to mention a whole new front bumper appears to be quite expensive)
  12. Thanks for all your help guys... When I get the screws and clips from PP, I will make sure everything is in there... & then report back my findings. Paul
  13. I spoke with Art in customer service @ PP and he is going to rustle me up some instructions, mounting clips/screws. The manufacturer stated that there is no glue and to use the double stick tape that is already attached to the skirt instead.
  14. I got my skirts today! Wow that was fast... Big black rubber (urethane) looking things not fiberglass... unfortunately, they came with no mounting instructions, no hardware (screws) nor glue . . . I have a call into customer service to see what's up. I'll keep you posted as to my progress... Paul
  15. Insurance prices vary by geographic region... For example in San Diego, CA the best bang for my buck seems to be AAA. Yet the same car and coverage in Los angeles is substantially more. Another thing to consider is representation should you require it. Some of these fly-by-night companies will not give a darn about you and thus if an accident happens and someone decided to sue you... Your in trouble. You are definitely going to want some one who will fight tooth and nail, & who is also not afraid to go to trial for you... In San Diego Allstate has a rep for not giving in, no matter what! I can 't tell you how many times I have testified as a medical expert and seen things like this. People are getting shafted by these insurance companies left and right. (My suggestion is to call a personal injury layer friend or two and ask them: If you had to pick one...Which insurance company in your geographic region puts up the biggest fight in court? and which one has the top notch lawyers, that always seem to give you the most trouble in court.) *Also consider a high limit uninsured motorist and Med-Pay coverage as well. These are invalualbe! Don't let your insurance rep talk you out of them! The ultimate in coverage is a high dollar umbrella policy .. . Paul
  16. Thanks for the info... I have a guy here locally who claims to know how to do it and is far cheaper than bumperplugs.com... I just wanted to make sure though that he knows what he is doing. Thus I was hoping to get some info as to the steps. It would be nice to know too tips or tricks as well... (i.e. is clear coat is needed???). Paul
  17. Does anyone know the exact process to painting the rubber bumperettes? Do they sand, epoxy or coat them some how, then sand again prior to primer & paint ? Is it better and/or do the factory newer painted versions fit the earlier versions of the 996...? (You know the ones that that are not made of rubber and come painted) <_< If they do indeed fit how much do you think a new set will cost fs. just having a body shop paint them? (Any feed back as to experience will be greatly appreciated) Paul 1999 CA2 coupe AS/Boxster Red interior- PS Going on my first PCA-SD Zone 8 ride this weekend in San Diego! Can't wait to see you all... (Stone Micro-Brewery Tour/lunch and Ride in North San diego County) :drive:
  18. Great idea, but I'll have to wait on the front bumper... Too rich for my blood right now. If you check out my garage, you'll see I have in a short period of time added a number of fun lil' mods. (It seems to add up quick) Paul
  19. I called Performance Products and they are going to try and match the Brandy wine price... Brandy Wine has them for $599 + $30 S/H = $629 A difference of around $30 (Good news is PP ships from Los Angeles, so my wait time is considerably less.) Thanks for all your advise guys, Paul
  20. I picked up a pair of side skirts at the Performance Products 40th. anniversary sale (Coupon code# 4P14B11). . . Out the door with shipping $658.52 1. What is a fair price to get them painted / installed for? 2. My 99' is Artic Silver, Does the body/paint shop need to purchase both teh 92U & 92T paints, or are they the same thing, just with differnet part numbers? Paul *The only thing I have left to do for mods is clear taillights and painted bumperetts... Then I will be set! :clapping:
  21. What are your thoughts on painted bumperettes? What is a reasonable price to pay to have them done? Is it worth the cost? Pro's / Con's? Paul 1999- C2 Coupe Artic Silver with Boxster Red interior...
  22. Tried retraining the window and had no luck. I first rolled it down, & then depressed the down button for 10-15 seconds. I then rolled it up to the top and it creaked after reaching the top a few times, after it stopped creaking I depressed and held the up button for 10-15 seconds. That didn't work... it still creaks... (seems like I just need a few milimeters less) So this time I did it again but, slowly inched the window up to what I thought was close to the the top, but the up/down butons lacks the sensitivity to control finite movements and it just did the same thing... Am I just being a dork or am I missing something... Paul PS I'm not interested pulling apart my door. Sounds like a hassle
  23. Awe Schucks! This would have been right up my alley too~ Let me know when you guys get a vaction home or decide to do this thing in sunny San Diego. . . I am so jealous~ :( Paul Of coarse my girlfriend is tickled pink that we live 8 hours away...
  24. Great idea! You never cease to amaze me... :notworthy: I was talking with Sean at Pioneer in SD and he said that there are two adj screws under the door that control up/down and tilt in/out... Are you familiar with these???? Paul
  25. I have a 99' 996 Coupe and the driver's side window is making a annoying creaking noise. It is only there after I close the door and the window slides up that 1/2 inch or so. It will continue to creak and thus drive me nuts for about 5 minutes or so. Then it disappears until I open/close the door again or hit a bump/ bot dot on the road. :cursing: It sounds almost as if the window is trying to push it up into the rubber threshold too much. Temperature does not affect it... Cleaning and lubricating the door seal does not affect it. I can reproduce it if I sit in the driver's seat & try to lift the door up. Yet if I lean on the door it also creaks. If I roll down the window and open/close the door, it sounds great and there is no noise. Thus it has to be related to the window adjustment... Do you guys have any ideas as to minor tweaking to get rid of this annoying noise? Paul My Garage: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?&...CODE=12&CID=106
