I have been looking for a 996 and was looking at a 1999. I was talking to one of my buddies today and he told me to log on his computer at his shop and look through the dealer auctions which he belongs to. I found a 2003 gt2 turbo car hit in the door and rear quarter. Where can these parts be found? It doesn't look like there is any frame damage. What are these cars worth when fixed (which I would be fixing it for myself). The car has 11,000 miles on it.

Newbie engine/reliablity questions.

No data just hear say. It just seems every time I hear something bad about the 3.4 it doesnt have that many miles on it. I know they are a lot more reliable than the air cooled motors and cheaper too (from what I hear). Most of what I hear is just opinion that is why I posted the question wondering if 150,000 is a strech. I guess I am just looking to get opinions of knoledgeable owners. -
I am looking into a 996 Porsche. I have been hearing a lot of bad things about reliablity. I am looking at a car that has about 70,000mi. My questions are how many miles are the 3.4 good for? Will these motors go to 150,000 if servied and pampered? Is there anything that goes out that I shoud look for besides the RMS? The RMS when going bad can be replaced and everything is good until that one goes out right? Do they have any known weak points in the tranny or other parts of the drive line that I should look for? I restore classic muscle cars for a living and have worked on my buddies 1999 996, but he knows very little about it besides it leaked oil (RMS) which I replaced and where to put the gas. So if you guys can give me some good things to look for it will help me out in my search for my first Porsche.

I didn't mea to say to 80's cars didn't have problems. I meant if you read on the different web sites it seems like every other car has either RMS or engine failure. That is the worry some part for me. Is getting over 100,000 miles common in the 3.4L engines? Are the 3.6L in the 2002 car alot better? Thanks for the replys I am learning. Todd -
Hi I am new here. I am looking at a buying a 1999 996 with 62000 miles on it. What should I look for? I use to work in a shop (10-12 years ago) that specalized in porsche, bmw, mercedes, ect but am lost on the newer models. I am reading alot about RMS and engine failures. What is the cost of a new motor? Can they be rebuilt? I have always loved 911 but reading the article all over the net are scaring the h3ll out of me. I don't remeber the mid 80s car having that many problems.
