  1. Thanks for the info. I tried it and was able to push the axle back in. It appeared to click right back in with minimal force. Hope it's good to go. Just need a bit of transmission oil as about a liter leaked out. I'll get it topped off tomorrow and take it for a test drive. Thanks
  2. I'm in the process of replacing the right rear wheel bearing. In the process of trying to remove the end of the axle from the wheel bearing housing I have actually ended up pulling the transmission flange right out of the transmission. I was having difficulty in removing the axle end and hit it 4 times to help loosen it up. This had the effect of breaking loose the transmission flange at the transmission. How do I re-install the transmission flange back to the transmission? Currently the inner cv joint is attached to the transmission flange and the axle. The whole axle came off in one piece when I pulled hard on the wheel housing. What is involved in re connecting the transmission flange to the transmission? 2001 Boxster S 6sp transmission.
  3. Hi, I'm in the process of replacing the rear axle shaft assembly. In trying to take apart the ball joint on the axle strut (wishbone) that connects to the wheel carrier I've ripped up the rubber dust seal. Is there a way to repair this or replace them? What is the part number for the dust seals or do I have to replace the entire axle strut? Thanks. 2001 Boxster S
  4. That's just the clarification I was looking for. Thanks.
  5. I just replaced my CDR-220 with a new (no name brand) after market double din,CD, Ipod/ GPS system. After considerable time I have been able to get the dash and door speakers to work through the Porsche M490 amp (4x40). I'm not sure if I have a grounding issue as every time I change volume or mode I get a very loud sound indicating the change. Is this normal to have an indicator sound? My second question is how to wire up the rear speakers. With the CDR-220 I was able to connect the rear speakers to the Head Unit and the dash and doors ran off the amp. I do have the wiring diagrams for the Porsche amp, CDR-220 and the new player however I have no idea how to add the rear speakers. I was able to connect the new GPS player to the amp with the 4 speaker out connections and grounds. The new GPS player also has 2 sets of RCA out connectors labelled for front and rear however they do not power the rear speakers. Whats the best way to wire in the rear speakers using the head unit and the 4x40 Porsche amp? Should I connect the rca connectors to the amp and use the other speaker outs on the head unit for the rear speakers? At this time I'm not really interested in adding another amp and would like to use the current setup. Thanks in advance for any help. 2001 Boxster S Hookoo3
  6. Hi Maurice, thanks for the info. I do have the top adjusted to a good forward position now. I adjusted the push rod about 3/16 longer. As the top comes into the closed position the forward tab is just a bit high and I now need to hold it down slightly to fit into the closed position. Will tightening the tension rope bring the leading edge slightly down? Or should I just leave it for a few days to see if it adjusts to this new position? Again thanks for your help. Hookoo3
  7. I replaced my top about a month ago with a new glass window top. After a month I still can't get the top to close on it's own. I can just close it now by pulling hard whereas at first I needed 2 people to pull it closed. I didn't replace the sliders with new ones and used the existing ones. I wasn't successful in removing the sliders during the top replacement without breaking the little tabs however I just put them back in. Would the faulty sliders have an impact on the top not closing fully on its own. I have had the top in the hot sun and closed for the majority of a month except when driving so the top material should be stretched by now. The top does close properly(after pulling) and the cables are well aligned. Is there an adjustment I can make or are the sliders having an impact on closing? The gap as about 3/4 of an inch before I pull the top closed. If I drive with the top up I can hear the top flexing for a brief moment. What should be the next step to adjust the top? Are the sliders the problem? Is there a way to replace the sliders without taking the entire top off again? Are there other adjustments I can look at? Thanks Hookoo3 2001 Boxster S
  8. The email response I recieved back from Nokian Tyres , North America " I strongly suggest that you return those to place of purchase ASAP! All the oils that's used to produce those tires are probably dried out and can be extremely dangerous." The tire dealer has now fully refunded my purchase and I have ordered new tires for replacement. Lesson learned- do your own checking prior to purchase. A little bit of inconvenience for me however I'll now have a bit more safety. Thanks.
  9. I just recently had a flat tire and unfortunately the interior side wall showed damage. I have replaced both rear tires with Nokian NRZi (265/35-18). The tires are W speed rated however I don't track the car and am willing to not have the Z rating. These were the only choice I had at the tire dealer other than waiting 3 or 4 days to get new tires. I did ask how old the tires were and I was told they were 1 year old, so I went ahead with them. I get home and check the manufacturers date stamped on the tire and they were made during the 38th week of 2002. The tires are 7 years old however never beed used or mounted before. I have no idea on the storage they may have had. Porsche recommendation is not to use tires over 6 years old. Would you use these tires? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks Hookoo3 2001 Boxster S
  10. I got it figured out. There is a plastic plug you use to push the metal clip on and the plastic circlip is like an o-ring that goes inside the threaded fitting.
  11. I have now recieved the threaded fitting 999.230.541.10. Inside this fitting is the metal circular clip that I need that was broken in the original fitting. What is the circlip part number 999.230.685.40 used for? Do I need to use this plastic fitting or is oK to just use the circular metal clip that comes inside the threaded fitting which is number 22 on the diagram. I'm a bit confused whether the plastic circlip is used as I didn't see it in the fitting. The packing list came with a description in German however I have no idea what it means. The diagram seems to indicate an o-ring and I'm not sure if the plastic circlip is an o-ring. How does this go back together? Do I need the plastic circlip? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Is there a difference between Super Dot 4 and Dot 4 brake fluid? All I could find on the shelves is Dot 4 brake fluid rated for 478 F. Is synthetic Dot 4 brake fluid adequate for 2001 Boxster S? If there is a difference between Super Dot 4 and Dot 4 what is it? Thanks
  13. The threaded joint is number 22. I've checked a parts manual and the threaded joint is 999.230.541.10. The parts manual also states that the circlip for the theaded joint is 999.230.685.40 I just recieved a clip and it doesn't match at all what came out of the threaded joint. Is it possible that the warehouse just sent out the wrong part? The clip should be metal and circular and what I recieved is an open plastic piece that if squeezed together may form a circle however I have no idea how this will hold or even fit into the threaded joint. Thanks
  14. I need help for a part number. The clutch line separated on me at the connection at the end of the hydraulic line where it connects to the hose that then connects to the slave cylinder. From the clutch diagram it shows the part is #22 and there are three in total. I believe the threaded joint on clutch pipeline is part # 999.230.541.10. Inside the threaded joint is a circular clip that holds in place the hose connector. What is the part number for the clip inside the threaded joint? I did order a circlip part number 999.230.685.40 however it does not in any way resembles the clip inside the threaded joint. Is this clip available separately from the threaded joint? Do I have to order the entire threaded joint and does it then come with the clip? Thanks 2001 Boxster S
  15. I was finally able to get the compression fitting off. It was very tight. Inside the fitting is a small clip that was broken. I've ordered the replacement circlip, part number 999.230.685.40. Hopefully next week I'll be able to get it all back together.
  16. Thanks. It looks like I'll need #22 and #14. Presently the end connection from #14 won't connect into #22. How does the #22 connection come off the hydraulic line? Or am I looking at replacing the line also? Is there another way to fix the connection?
  17. I don't have any knowledge on the hydraulic fittings. The current one just slides in and out and obviously does not hold. Do I need to replace the fittings or the entire assembly of hose and connector on the main line? Any help on part numbers? Thanks.
  18. The hydraulic hose connection has separated where it attaches to the main line from the master cylinder. Should I still be concerned with the master clutch cylinder or the clutch slave cylinder? With the connection blowing apart could it be a simple fatigue or break of the connection or could it be indicative of something else? Thanks.
  19. I'm having a clutch problem. I came to a stop and depressed the clutch. The clutch pedal however remained completed depressed and stays in that position. I can pull out the pedal out however I can not engage the transmission to put it back in gear. I do notice a clear liquid spilling out under the car probably next to the transmission. It appears to be more like water however it was to hot to tell if it was only water. I don't have any CEL lights on and everything appeared to be normal before this problem. Car ran great. Please point me in the right direction to find out what is wrong. Hopefully I'll be able to repair this on my own as the closest Porsche dealer or independant is 3 hours away. Thanks. 2001 Boxster S 52,000 miles
  20. The first objective is to remove the column steering housing. First extend the steering wheel to it's maximum telescoping length. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and you will see 2 screws in the housing. Then turn the wheel completely to the left and you will see two more screws and remove them. You will also need to remove 1 screw on each side of the column housing. There are 2 plastic clips on the bottom of the housing that you just push out and the housing assembly will come apart. You will then have access to the column switch and on the bottom left you will have the mounting location. In putting the housing back together I found it important to line up the bottom plastic tabs first. The tabs are part of the inside cable housing holders and can move easily. Keep it all lined up and it should go back together.
  21. Success, I now have an operational OBC. Thanks to all and this site for the great information. A few suggestions for those that might try this. 1. I would recommend installing the OBC switch before having the OBC enabled. I think this makes it easier for the technician to verify the programming and for the PIWIS to know that it can be enabled. 2. You need five of the 000-979-009 wires to make the wiring harness for a 2001 Boxster S 3. I added the OBC switch to the existing 3 switch column. It was easier to remove the switch from the new 4 column switch I purchased and adding it to the existing column switch. This meant I didn't have to take the airbag and steering wheel off. 4. I was also able to have the OBC readout and AC to be in Celcius.
  22. Thanks all, Ill try to go back to the dealer and request they re-program the OBC. I'll let you know how it works out.
  23. I'm located in the interior of BC. I just purchased the car this winter in San Diego. I had no indication it couldn't be done from what I researched at the time.
  24. Tool Pants , why can't it be done? Do I really have a different instrument cluster? Can the service tech identify which type of cluster I have from the VIN? The closest Porsche dealer is a three hour drive away and I'm not aware of any independant technicians with a PST2 or PIWIS system within the same area. I've looked at the link that says it should work however there appears to be some doubt. Is there another way to check this out? All I really wanted is the outside temperature display. Any other way of getting this done? Should I just go to the dealer and take a chance on the reprogramming to see if it will work?
  25. I'm looking for confirmation that the OBC hack can be done on a 2001 Boxster S. I've read all the OBC forum information and have purchased the 4 column switch to replace the existing 3 column. From all of these forums it appears that this should be straight forward as long as I get a dealer to turn on the OBC code. I called the closest Porsche dealer to get the re-programming done and the tech says he has done many of these however on certain models it can't be done without replacing the instrument cluster. He checked my VIN and said I have the wrong instrument cluster and need a different one. He even went on to say that he doesn't understand why the forums says it can be done. Am I getting the real story from the service tech? Do I look for another tech? How can I tell if I have the right or wrong instrument cluster? 2001 Boxster S 3.2L 6 speed US
