  1. Thanks for the reply. Read this a while back and just took in the part about the rear drains resulting in a puddle in under the back seats - checked but no problems. So front blocked drains result in a boot flood - great! Better get out there with an overcoat and a torch! what damage is likely to have been done? Or is it all linked i.e. same as blockage of the rear drains?
  2. I've been looking around to get my wheels refurbed which are the 18 inch GT3 split rims/SportDesign. Thought I'd share my findings. The person I bought the car from has scuffed all the rims pretty badly. The front wheel rims have been painted (originally polished/diamond cut) and a lot of this has peeled and the revealed metal is tarnishing (gone brown) If your situation is similar to me, the rims are in bad shape but the mid is ok here are the options I found so far: All prices are +VAT 1) A mobile alloy repair company (various) come to your chosen location - will repair and repaint/gloss without splitting the wheel: £40-60 per wheel - this includes repairing the centres and the rims then painting and and lacquering. Won't last long as this doesn't coat the wheels completely (as they are not split) 2) Lepsons.com will split the wheels and strip + repair +polish the rims only for £30 per wheel - no coating hence it has to be polished regularly. You have to get the wheels (without the car) to them and leave them for 5 days. If you take the wheels on the car they charge and extra £40. 3) As per 2 but will lacquer the rim - £70 per wheel. You wouldn't have to polish the wheels unless you get another scuff, which let's water under the lacquer and it all starts bubbling/peeling over time. No warranty! 4) As per 3 but also fully strip and repaint (powder coat) the middle part - this is like getting a brand new wheel back - £100 + VAT. Once again the hard part is getting the wheels to them and being without for 5 days minimum! I found some of the mobile guys 'claim' to take your wheels, leaving the car on stands, then take them to Lepsons for the full works - charge about £125 per wheel. If you can think of other refurb options I'd be interested.
  3. Ditto on Pirelli...Rosso in the wet. I have 18s 265 at the back, 225 on the front. IT seriously does not feel good in the rain! Seems good for dry roads though. What's the best allround tyre? (Excuse the pun!). Road use only, not too loud, but main thing is to grip like glue in wet and dry conditions.
  4. Edit - turned out to be front drains blocked overflowing battery compartment in to boot. I washed + waxed my car for the first time on Friday (haven't had it long). Since then we've had some pretty heavy rain. Today (Sunday) I opened up the boot and saw a big puddle of water (over half a litre). As I wrung the towel out I noticed it felt very greasy/waxy but the smell wasn't strong or distinctive. Did I spray water in the wrong orifice when I washed it or is it something else? Thanks in advance for any help.
  5. Alternatively just sing loudly while operating the windows ;)
  6. Be gentle I'm a newb  - just debating what the purpose of the metal clip is. When the clip is vertical I understand it's forcing the valve in to the open position. I'm 'assuming' (dangerous!) that allows air out with the need for excessive pressure build up? If that's right, why would you want to let air escape if the pressure isn't high enough to push the valve open?
  7. I am now seriously thinking of attaching, as you suggest, to some other 12 volt source. Thanks for the great idea. Last post December 04...hmmm hope it's still worth a shot.... How did this turn out?
  8. Isn't the air bleed valve designed to allow air to escape automatically? As in leaving the metal clip in the horizontal position?
  9. The british word would be "gutted". Sorry to anyone this has happened to and I hope the replacement engine brings it back to be an even greater car than it started to soften the blow! Porsche UK won't warranty the car after it's 8 years old (same everywhere?) so a lot of us '99 996ers will be on our last year of warranty. Is there a way of bringing on this devastation so you can get a replacement under warranty?? Can someone mail me some engine metal hehe.
  10. They started doing blue as well. Green and brown too LOL  Renovo
  11. Hey Loren. Thanks for the response. Just got my 99 C2 Cab. Spending more time on your fantastic site than in the car at the moment! I'm struggling to find a UK supplier for Krytox. Is it the stuff under the heading Anti-squeak/creak/rattle on GBRTECH
  12. Is it not advisable to use silicone lubricant if you happen to have some? I'm thinking on all the seals. Undoubtedly some will get on atleast the top of the windows. Would that be detrimental?
  13. Great thread. :renntech: Got me inspired and can't wait for the weekend to have a go at this! At the moment my Kenwood head unit is in the top of the lower console and AC controls in stock position. Main objectives are to stop the Kenwood and the gear level head-butting each other and to have the Kenwood screen as high as possible to get a better viewing angle. Actually at the moment if you press the touch screen(which covers the AC when opened up), the top of its frame tends to hit the AC Auto switch. Pretty daft arrangement which I’ll add existed prior to purchasing the car! I'd like to end up with (from the top down): Head Unit (1 unit high when slid in) Aircon Control Pocket Other pocket Maybe squeeze in a cup holder somewhere? Can you think of any problems with this arrangement whether the practicality/cost of doing the work or in using the equipment afterwards? Been searching for an hour and can't see an example of this arrangement (would be grateful for a link if I've missed it). Thanks in advance. Let the 'ergenomic realignment' begin! UK - 99 996 Cab .GT3 Kit. Manual. RHD.
