  1. Wash car with Dawn detergent to remove old wax. Then clay bar your car to remove additional road grime and polution specks. Wash again (I usually wash twice), then use Zano #5, followed by Zano #2 (one or more coats depending on preference). Use gloss enhancer after dusting and between washes. I also use enhancer between each additional coat of wax as well.

  2. Looks great but I woulda found a way to get the Porsche logo to still be there. Either buy a small decal or taped it off. Either way looks good and is relevant to my interests. Love the red.

    Yep, brake decals on order!

How much cleaning/prep work was done? Anything special done in the way of cleaning? Planning this DIY next week!

The kit from Tirerack included a can of non-chlorinated brake cleaner. I purchased a second can. I sprayed each caliper with the cleaner from one can of cleaner and then used 600 wet/dry sand paper, spraying with water as I went, followed by 800, then used the second can of cleaner. The directions recommended two coats of paint with at least thirty minutes between coats. By the time I finished the first coat of paint, thirty minutes had elapsed and I then preceded to give the calipers a second coat. The directions said not to use the brakes for 24 hours. I waited 24 before driving and 48 hours before bedding my new brake pads.

  3. I took my winter tires off and decided while I had the wheels off to also paint my calipers and replace my brake pads. I found red caliper paint at tirerack.com

I was able to order a replacement part from Sunset Porsche. It was delivered within a week from Germany.

I lost a little coolant from the bracket and a lot of fluid from the disconnected hose. You should clamp the hose when removed from the housing and have some extra coolant on the reinstallation. Make sure you torque all bolts to specs.

I'm in Everett just up the road. If you need help hollar. I also have a UView 550000 Airlift Tool Kit if you need to borrow it.

  5. Guys,

Really appreciate the info in this string, like most of you my Box didnt come with the factory fitted windstopper (why are people so tight!!) hey ho, I was quoted £280 plus VAT (20%) for fitting. Following the instructions below it took me 15 mins and yes I have a new rivet gun too!!

    Cheers

    Phil

    :welcome:

Congrats on the install. The rivet gun comes in handy.

  6. Can someone post the correct part number for the oxygen sensor for bank 1 ahead of catalytic converter for a 99' Boxster.

    Sure, here you go:

    1997-1999 986 Boxster 2.5L

986-606-126-01 (all four sensors are the same.)

Here is the best site I have found regarding O2 sensors for the Boxster. It is Mike Focke's site.

  7. Looking for keys to remove my CDR220 to do a GT3 console delete kit. Beckers wants $10.99 plus shipping.

Does someone want to sell or loan me theirs that they are no longer using?

    I'm in Delaware, OH

    Thanks!

  8. Hi

What is the IMS and AoS?

    Ta

The IMS is short for Intermediate Shaft. There is an upgrade by LN Engineering that is recommended especially if you already have the majority of labor done to replace the clutch.

    MORE info HERE on upgrade.

The AOS is short for Air Oil Seperator that is very difficult to replace with the tranny installed (not impossible, just difficult) It frequently fails and needs replacement from time to time. Very easy to do again once tranny is out. Press HERE for more information from Mike Focke's website.

You also may want to check your oil filler tubes for all the same reasons as stated above.

  9. The thing is they already replaced the o2 sensor mentioned..

You may want to check what brand they replaced them with. I replaced mine initially with Walker brand knock offs and had nothing but problems. You may also want to swap side to side (bank 1 with bank 2) to see if your problem switches sides. They are very easy to replace or swap. All you need is a 22mm metric O2 wrench and a long regular screw driver (to open electrical plug).

Also check out TSB #9902. It is not advisable to spray the connections with any type of electrical cleaner.

Mike Focke's Website is also excellent. PRESS HERE

  10. This is the support topic for the DIY Tutorial Horn Problem. Please post here if you have any questions or feedback.

Hello, I just received my new steering frame and installed it. I plugged the battery back up and now I get the air bag ligth on all the time as if it's not operational. I did took the air bag out to make sure I had plugged it back. Is there anything to reset the air bag light?

Any Porsche shop with a PST2 or PIWIS can reset the airbag light or if you have the durametric tool you can reset the airbag light yourself. Perhaps someone in your area can help.

  11. Hi All....

Washed my 997 Turbo today and have had no error codes....After washing it, I drove to the store......No error codes. Got back in and started it and got check engine bring to workshop message.

Drove home....Put the diagnostic tool on it and got: P 8584 System Too Rich Bank 1 & P 8448 Throttle actuator motor open circuit.

Any thoughts? Could water have caused this from washing? The engine seems to run the same (fine)...No noises or rough idle. I could not clear the error either.

    Any help appreciated...

    Thanks!

    DC

    Possibly,

Clear the codes and see what comes back.

Need to replace the front brakes.

    What are peoples preferences.

I have used the Zimmerman drilled rotors with good success on my BMW's with the Akebono pads.

Do people go OEM...A known product or what else.

The car is mainly a daily driver and we (wife and self) will AutoX at times for fun.

    Opinions Please.

    Thanks

    Chuck

Now I have the airbag warning light coming on and staying. I bought this used at 49k 5 months ago.

Last week I had to replace the ignition switch relay (pita!). Did I do something to cause this while installing the ignition relay?

I'm in sacramento. Does anyone have a obdc reader for the porche that I can use to scan for the error code?

    Thanks

Did you remove the steering wheel when you replaced the ignition switch? Get the fault code and report back. Regardless, with the airbag warning light on you will need the duramteric tool or higher to turn off.

  14. Hello, I am new to Remmtech and a new Porsche owner. I have a 2000 Boxter S which I purchased from a friend. I am the third owner. I had the local Porshe shop do a prepurchase inspection and everything was up to speed. Both owners prior to me kept all service records and the car is in "like new" condition. While I was in the garage checking out the car I opened the fuel cap, just to check it out. The next day when I started the car the "check engine light" came on. I drove it today and the light remained on. Like I said before there are no issues with the car. I am thinking because I opened the fuel cap it may have tripped a sensor. Does anyone have any advice as to where I should go from here. Should I drive it down to the Porsche shop or is there something I can do to make the light go out. Thanks

If you have the 4 digit radio code you can remove the negative battery connection for 5 minutes then re-connect the battery. If the CEL light is not flashing you're not hurting anything. I'm not sure where Alpine Calif. is located but you may find a Renntech Board Member located nearby to check with their Durametric tool that may be able to give you a more complete diagnosis.

  15. I just purchased a like-new 2002 Boxster with only 4,400 miles. As nearly as I can tell the only thing that's been done are oil and filter changes. Obviously the tires (which look almost new) need to be replaced before any serious driving, but are there other maintenance items I should give priority to? It's never before been rained on, so I treated the convertible top last weekend. (Also I removed a mouse's nest from the cabin air filter and have a replacement filter on order.) I opened the engine compartment--don't think it had ever been opened before--looked brand new, no mice. Just looking for suggestions for any unique Boxster preventative maintenance that might accrue with time rather than miles.

When I purchased my 98 Boxster it had only been driven 1K miles in two years and immediately developed a RMS leak as well as an AOS problem. Both of which I fixed myself. Also did the clutch at the same time. I would change oil, drive conservitively for a while and monitor closely.

  16. I bought my 996 turbo 2001 5 years ago and I still remember when I would drive the car I would get out shaking, It just gripped and gripped around the bends the car had pirelli asimetrico tyres and I still put the same tyres on now but it just does'nt feel the same maybe im just use to the car,

Anyway I would like to know what tyres do you guys use and what is better then my asimetrico's
