  1. Sorry, perhaps I should have been more specific. Does the grill just pop out? Any trick to it
  2. Hi All, Sorry if I'm missing a thread that already exists about this, but I did search and had no luck. Anyway, I've got an '06 Boxster S with the CDR24 head unit and BOSE speakers. One of the in-dash speakers seems blown and I want to replace it. Not looking to upgrade or anything, just want to swap in a good OEM part. I can't seem to find any info on how to remove these speakers though. Obviously there's very little clearance between the speaker grill and windshield. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Endaar
  3. Hi All, I've owned my 987S for a year now, and since it's due for a state inspection, I wanted to check if I should be looking at getting any maintenance work done at the same time. The car is a 2006 Boxster S 6-speed, currently with 18300 miles. It was delivered new in January 2006, and I purchased it in September 2008 with 16500 miles as the second owner. I have the maintenance book, and the last (and only) service was in April 2007 at 12200 miles and is marked as a "minor" service. It's a CPO car but I don't have any record of whatever work was performed during the certification process. I am fairly certain though it was limited to new tires and brakes, etc. The way I'm reading the maintenance schedule, it looks like I'm only due (overdue, actually) for a brake fluid flush, and that the next service after that would be a "major" due in January 2010. Am I following things correctly? How important is it to do the brake fluid flush now, as opposed to waiting until when the major service is done? I don't see doing more than 2500 miles per year. Thanks for the help.
  4. Not 100% sure what you're referring to in a 911; I've got a Boxster. In any event, if you're talking about the silver painted plastic like on the (newer) door handles and the model badge, you can use a Pilot Silver Marker from an office supply store. The color match is near perfect. Endaar
  5. Hi All, I'm looking at a 2006 Boxster S, and would appreciate an idea where I should be price-wise. 16500 miles Preferred Package Leather Sport Seats Climate Control Red Guages / Belts Painted Center Console Chrome Exhaust Pipe Windstop Carfax is clean; one-owner. It's a CPO car from a Porsche dealer. Looks like it was sold originally in Jan 2006, so if I'm following the CPO warranty properly, it should be covered until Jan 2012. Asking price is $48k. Thoughts? Thanks! Endaar
  6. Well, after a lot of consideration, I'm going to pass on this car for now. Everything I've seen shows it to be a solid, no-stories car, but truthfully I haven't shopped enough to make an intelligent decision, especially on an out of state car. I do appreciate all the help, as it gave me a lot of info that will help in my continued search. Thanks, Endaar
  7. It's in Greenville. I'm not familiar with SC so not really sure where that's near - pretty far inland, in the NW part of the state. I certainly wouldn't expect it, but if someone nearby is so inclined to take a peek at the car, that'd be great. Thanks all.
  8. Thanks Loren. So the three range 2 overrevs aren't anything to get too worked up about? I have a Carfax - it's clean. The car's been serviced reguarly; I haven't had them fax the book (I have the mileages, etc.) but it's there and shows the history. As for a PPI - my thinking was that the CPO warranty pretty much addresses mechanical concerns, and having spent enough years appraising cars, I'm not really worried about missing paint/body/frame damage once I see the car in person. Does that make sense or not? I'm in NY, the car is in SC. Any other time of the year I'd have already flown down to look at it; unfortunately this is the worst time of the year for me at work and pretty much makes it impossible to take any time off. To answer an earlier question, the 30k service was done at 25k miles. Thanks as always.
  9. Got about 9 pages of a DME report. Including what looks important; let me know if there's anything else to check. Number of ignitions, range 1: 761 Number of ignitions, range 2: 3 Outside RPM range (upper): 1385.5h Outside RPM range (lower): 798.9h Whole bunch of timing, crank position, etc. readings that I can't make heads or tails of. Alarm events look pretty normal. Operating hours: 1475h Under Instrument Cluster section: Number of Faults: 0 Number of Events: 3 1. Brake distributor 2. Oil pressure too low 3. ABS failure Roll over protection activated once Also got the cert checklist: No faults shown. No indication of collision damage. 50% on the brake pads, 7mm on the tires. So, thoughts? Thanks again.
  10. Thanks Loren, the options printout is very helpful. Turns out, the car has PSM and the 6 CD changer, neither of which I knew about. It looks like it came with a hardtop, which is MIA, but that's not really a concern. Only thing that stands out otherwise is that the car shipped on 18" wheels and is now on 17"s. Original dealer may have done a wheel swap - I've seen that happen, but is it something to be concerned about? I don't know if the 30K was done - I'll find out. It looks like most of that however is stuff that would be done when the car is certified though, right? Which reminds me I need to get a copy of the certification checklist. DME is the engine computer? Will reading the codes result in something they'd be able to fax/e-mail me? Thanks again!
  11. Hi all, At the suggestion of a few members here, I've focused my search for a 911 Cabrio to the 2002 model year. I've found one I like that's a Certified Pre-Owned car; unfortunately it's ~700 miles away so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible before making the decision to travel to see it in person. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone can offer. http://tinyurl.com/25pxzk 2002 911 Cabrio 6-spd Speed Yellow / Black 40K miles Bi-Xenon lights, Bose Audio Overall, a lightly optioned car, which I'm fine with. There's nothing missing that I can't live without, and my thinking is I'm better off with a cerified car and the associated Porsche warranty rather than taking a chance on buying a car privately or through a non-Porsche dealer. Honestly, reading all the "catostrophic engine failure" threads here has me a bit scared to not have a warranty. Asking price is $48K, which is at the top end of my budget. I haven't negotiated at all yet. It's a two owner car, originally bought in NY and now in SC, traded in on a 911 Turbo. Car seems to have been reguarly serviced through 15K miles; at this point I'm not aware of any service history past that. Dealer said they pulled a national warranty history and that history shows no warranty repairs. Claimed to be original paint, no accidents, no frame damage. I spent a number of years in the car business, so I'm pretty confident that once I see the car in person and up on a lift I'll know if it's been hit. I've got a bunch more pictures of the body other than what's in the listing; they look good. All the panel gaps look correct, no waves in the paint, etc. Front bumper is marked up from the plate bracket (picture attached), which is not a huge issue as long as it will be covered once the bracket is back on. I'm waiting on a shot of the option sticker and a few other pictures. So what am I missing and what else should I be asking? Many thanks, Endaar
  12. Thanks for all the comments; you've helped me narrow things down quite a bit. I think what makes the most sense is for me to look for either a $35K 99-01 or, if I'm going to spend $45K, look for a 2002. If at $45K I can get something Porsche certified with a warranty, that's a big plus. What unfortunately doesn't help is that I'm only interested in Guards Red/Black or Speed Yellow/Black, neither of which is particuarly common. I'm not in a rush though so hopefully the right vehicle will turn up. As I keep looking, I've got a couple of equipment questions I could use some help with. What isn't leather on a partial-leather car that is on a full-leather car? Is traction control only offered as part of PSM? Are there two versions of the 18" turbo wheel? It seems as if some have a much smaller lip than others. Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
  13. Hi all, Obviously it's my first post here. I've been reading a bit, trying to learn as much as possible, and would appreciate any thoughts / opinions you might have about the following two 911s. #1: http://tinyurl.com/2njuvt #2: http://tinyurl.com/3bckl3 My take is they're pretty similar cars, with the most significant difference being that #1 is a year newer. Equipment list is comparable - the 2000 has the 18" wheels and PSM, while the 2001 has a hardtop, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in the NE. All in all though, I think I'd prefer the wheels and PSM to the hardtop. The 2000 apparently has a small oil leak between the engine and transmission (I'm assuming that's the notorious RMS leak?), which I'd want taken care of by the dealer. The 2001 is being sold by a (non-Porsche) franchised highline dealer and is a one owner car, which I suppose has some value. So beyond anything I may have missed, I'm wondering if it's worth another $5000 (which I can afford, but is more than I want to spend) for the 2001. As I said earlier, any comments would be appreciated. Thanks much.
