  1. Ok, how about this question. I got the cable in the mail today. It has a power cable and a ground cable used to supply power to the ipod. Where should I connect those?
  2. That would certainly be a disappointment. I would think it would be very difficult to navigate through songs/albums if that was the case!
  3. Thanks, I didn't want to force it without knowing for sure! Anybody got answers for any of the other questions?
  4. Is it true that you get to see song information in the Becker readout? Do you get title and artist? If you have a couple thousand songs, do you just keep spinning the knob to get to the song you want or is there some sort of artist/album skip ahead? Is it ok to leave the iPod in the car during Winter (hooked up to the radio supplying power)? My car will be in a garage overnight so it will offer some protection. Is one type of iPod better to leave out in Winter than the other? The Flash based Nano or the HD based iPod Classic? Thanks! EDIT: Got one other question. How do you remove that little cubby-hole/sunglass holder section from the console? I tried putting my hands inside it and pulling but it wouldn't come out (moved a bit but that's it). I want to remove that and drill a hole in it that I will run my iPod radio cable through.
  5. But, does it stay that way? In my experience, mine pretty much back to where it was within a couple of weeks (with Meguiar's PlastX) . :(
  6. Thanks, i'm going from all 18" to all 17" for my snow tires(not just rear as i said). Just wanted to make sure I'd be ok. Thanks for the insight!
  7. The dealership I bought them from said it would be fine and would actually do a better job on snow. Is this correct? Is it going to affect my odometer? I haven't put them on yet and was thinking about getting it done this afternoon.
  8. Yup, now I've got the hardtop on and I've replaced my rattle over hard bumps with squeaks over small bumps. I just can't win. :P I read through the posts on here about dealing with the squeaks and put lubricant on the rubber seals but the squeaks continued. Plus, I don't think the top is down all the way as I can get a finger between the top and the car in the back. I've gotta take it into the dealership to get my winter tires put on sometime this week so I'll ask them if it is on right.
  9. That's not very nice. I'm new to Porsche and I was curious as to what people said they had when talking to other people. :(
  10. Well, I had a friend drive my car today so I could sit in the passenger seat and try to find the rattle. Funny thing was that when I was sitting in the passenger seat, it sounded like it was coming from the driver's side! But, after a few minutes, I figured out what it was. There is a big plastic piece that covers the latching mechanism for the roof up above where the rearview mirror is on the roof. There are two plastic oval pieces that fit onto it to cover up some metal parts. Those two pieces are very loosely sitting in the plastic cover. They come out easy and have two plastic prongs that are used to secure them in place. But, the design doesn't allow for them to secure firmly and they just sit up there and rattle when I go over bumps. I'd have to wedge something in there or use double-sided tape to keep them from rattling. But, the rattle shouldn't be an issue once I put my hardtop on for the winter (unless it has a similar setup).
  11. Well, I'd certainly agree that the cab isn't as nice looking with the top up. But, you buy a cab to keep the top down whenever possible. Only time I have my top up is on cold mornings or when it's raining. I'll pop the hardtop on in a couple weeks once warm weather says goodbye for the year.
  12. You lost me... why isn't it? Well, didn't they technically stop making "911's" in 1989? You can see that Porsche still refers to it as a 911 on their own web site, in the "history" section and in the "Car Configurator". Right, and it says 911 on my manuals too.
  13. You lost me... why isn't it? Well, didn't they technically stop making "911's" in 1989?
  14. Well, mine sounds like it is coming from the dash passenger speaker area, not the passenger door speaker. But, I'll take everything out of the door pocket just in case the sound is playing tricks on me and it is coming from the pocket.
  15. For the life of me, I can't figure out what it is. I've taken the speaker out of the dash and the rattle is still there when I go over bumps. I just can't figure out what it is. I've looked into the dash cavity and felt around in there but I can't find anything that would be making that rattle. Anybody have any clue what it would be?
  16. I call it a 911 but I guess it really isn't. I've never called it a Carrera before since I don't think most people know it by that name. I think the layman would be clueless of what I had if I said I had a 996. I tell those in the know that I have a C2 but those that don't know Porsche's wouldn't really know what that is. What do you call your car when asked?
  17. Going from a convertible to a coupe (you don't specify but you do mention getting away from the plastic window)? Wouldn't you miss driving around with the top down? I have a '00 C2 cab and wouldn't want a coupe. I drive around with the top down 90% of the time. Plus, I have a hardtop for the winter. I do have to put up with the blurry plastic window though when it's raining or on cold mornings. When I was buying a car, I was looking for a Boxster but decided to get a 996 instead because of the back seat is usable in a pinch and it's nice to drop groceries back there too. Plus, I agree that I really didn't want the "poor man's Porsche". ;)
  18. Why would you do that? Not giving an opinion one way or the other. Just curious what your reasoning is.
  19. I just spent $1800 at that shop this afternoon getting a new instrument cluster put in. Tom Wood is a great dealership and Jeremy Rodecap in service really goes out of his way to help (hooked me up with a set of snow tires for my C2). Just don't buy parts from them and let them charge you twice that of MSRP like they usually try to do. Been able to buy stuff at MSRP after I said that I could easily buy it online for that price. Sorry, no help for your maintenance day though as I'm pretty new to the Porsche world. :)
  20. Oh, cool, so we don't have to do anything at all. Thanks for looking into it for us! (although, I wouldn't want to test to make sure it actually IS disabled :P)
  21. I was just wondering if those that have smartTop or remoteTop installed and put a hardtop on the car during the winter months actually disable those devices when the hardtop is in place. I was thinking that's what I would do in case the button accidentally got pushed. I assume the top motor would break if the hardtop was in place and the button was pressed to raise the top (unless there's some safety mechanism in place).
  22. LOL! I put my top up at night for the very same reason but it's me who hates the spiders! I've had them hanging down on their webs waiting to jump in my hair when I go to my car. Hell if I'm going to leave my top down and let them lay their eggs in there! :P
  23. Well, good thing I need to get a new cluster because, for the life of me, I can't get my gauges to work anymore. I've pulled the thing apart and put it back together several times and I can't get the speedometer, tachometer, and gas gauge to work anymore! All of the LED stuff is working but that's it. I don't know what the hell I did but it wasn't good!
  24. Ok, I took my cluster out today and took everything apart. Now I can tell there is no way to fix the LCD screen. It is like the black part in there just got rubbed off or something. The LCD screen is connected via a ribbon that is stuck onto it (not sure how exactly but it is not detachable). But, I now know my only recourse it to replace the cluster. :( I guess I'll just have to watch ebay for a cluster for sale. Then I need to figure out what I'm supposed to do with the mileage changing if I replace my cluster.
