  1. Well, I live in a condo and don't have a place to work on my car. So, I can't really do anything like that myself (nothing that requires me to get under my car). I had been taking my last car to Firestone for all it's maintenance and that's why I was asking the capability of a place like that to do that.
  2. Well, I'm pretty sure that it is brake dust that causing them to squeak since whenever I was the car and spray the brakes off real good, the squealing stops for a while. Vibration dampers. Is this something a place like Firestone would have and could install or do I need to go to the Porsche dealer? I don't think I've owned a car with those things before.
  3. I went out there a little bit ago and things had gone from bad to worse. I drove to the store and then tried to put the top up with the key and all it did was honk the horn (no top, windows or lock). The only thing that the keyless entry would do is honk the horn. Luckily the car was unlocked at this point. I drove home and took the seat off and made sure the remoteTop was securely in place and it was. Still, it just honked the horn (also the interior lights were on and wouldn't go off). I took the remoteTop out and tested the keyless entry. Fortunately, it still worked as it used to. I put the remoteTop unit back in and tested it again. Once more, all I got was horn honk and interior lights staying on. I took the unit back out and put things back to normal. I think the unit is defective.
  4. Sigh.... No luck. The thing has only worked properly 2 out of about 15 attempts. Don't think I've had a problem with it going up and locking. Down just keeps stopping somewhere in the process. :(
  5. Yeah, it could have something to do with how long I hold the button down. I got it to go down properly this morning with one try. I'll do some more experimentation with it to see if there's something to it.
  6. I sent an email to the makers of it but I thought that you guys might have some experience with this since I learned about it on here. I installed remoteTop on my 2000 Porsche 911 C2 Cabriolet this morning and am having issues getting it to work properly. When I press the keyless entry device for a couple of seconds to put the top down, it typically starts and then stops before it gets very far. Sometimes it just gets the windows halfway down, sometimes it gets farther and gets the top most of the way down. When it stops, I have to hit the keyless entry device again and either put it back up and then try taking it down again or it finishes putting it down. It doesn't seem to have any issues putting the top back up though. This happen to anybody else? Any ideas on how I can fix it if it is possible?
  7. Thanks, Loren! Didn't know there were brake pad sensor lights on my dash. So, the squeaking that I am hearing. Is this normal? It's pretty noticeable and was hoping a car like this wouldn't have that kind of issue. What is the appropriate action to get rid of the squeak if there is one?
  8. Is it true that they put something on the pads that causes them to squeak when it's about time to change them? My boss told me that today and I had never heard that before. I've got one of my brakes that squeaks quite a bit when I brake. Secondly, do I need to take my car to a Porsche dealer to replace the pads or can I just take it to a place like Firestone? I can't do it myself as I don't have my own garage to work on it. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for your help everyone! Ordered the end caps and lighter and now considering my options for the hood release (bookmarked www.911pcar.com) .
  10. Thanks for your help, Mike! Got the lighter and end caps in my shopping cart but am still having a heck of a time finding the hood release latch.
  11. Hi, I'm trying to find a replacement for my hood release handle as mine is all scuffed up and two plugs for the holes on the convertible top (not sure if there are such things or what they are called). Here's a couple of pictures of what I am talking about. Hood release: One of two holes that I would like plug: Also, I am missing my lighter plug (the innards are in there, just missing the knob thing that plugs into the socket) if you know where I can buy one of those too. Thanks for any help or guidance you can give me!
  12. I think I prefer to keep mine pretty much stock. I'm too old for aerokits and such. :P The only "mod" I plan on doing in the near term is buying the smartTOP and remoteTOP modules since its a bit of a pain to put the top up/down as it is by putting the parking break on and holding the button in the entire time while it is rising/descending.
  13. Oh, well, that's great news. I have no idea how they would use a spot welder to fix it but I know little about such things (being that it's not just a scratch but the body is indented like an inch or so by the time it gets back towards the wheel well). At least it's not very noticeable as-is and you have to look for it to see it. Not noticeable in this picture. Thanks, for the info! EDIT: Sombody at another forum explained to me what you meant. I didn't know they did such things. Here's what he said: "they weld a rod onto the body, and then use a dent puller to yank the dent out, and then set it flush again, cut off the rod, grind down the area, primer, paint, and clear."
  14. Anybody have a clue on how much that would cost me to get it fixed? The scratch/dent is about 18" long and it gets deeper as it goes back. I assume they would have to take the quarter panel off and hammer it out.
  15. Sigh... now that I had the car out in the light, I can see that it is actually dented and pulled away from that fender guard. I don't even have the car for 2 weeks before I put a dent in it. Can't believe the thing is so low that a curb dents it. Had my last car for 8 years and never put a dent in it. Wonder how much that is gonna cost me to fix it.
  16. Well, I got a bit too close to a curve and the black plastic wheel well protector (like 8 inches long or so) on the front side of my rear passenger wheel got pushed back about an inch. I tried pushing it back into place but I couldn't get it to go. I think there's a bolt on the bottom that attaches it into place but I can't get under to take a look at it. I've tried searching on Google for the part but I'm not sure what it is called. I'm not available to take a photo of it at the moment but can do it later if nobody on here can figure ot what I'm talking about.
  17. If you are going to spend that much money on a cabriolet, get a 2002 so you can get a glass window on your ragtop. I would have if I would have been able to afford it (recently bought a 2000 that came with hardtop).
  18. Yeah, I obviously thought it was confusing. Well, after some fumbling around, I found the button on the cruise control that turned the light off.
  19. So, apparently "Automatic Speed Control" is another name for cruise control. There is a light on the dash that indicates that this feature is "ready". What I don't understand is why would there be a light on the dash on all the time that tells you that the cruise control is ready to use. When exactly would it not be ready to use? EDIT: Nevermind. I pulled up a manual from this site and see that apparently I accidently have the cruise control turned on. I'll see if I can turn it off next time I go to my car.
  20. Ok, just tried it out. That works much better. Thanks for your help. I must win the stupid post of the day award with this gem.
  21. LOL, I'm a moron. :P I saw that the pushing the middle of the radio made the faceplate tilt open. I thought it was some weird theft prevention thing. I thought I had a 4-disc CD changer. Haha. Thanks, I'll go try that now and I'll look to see if I can find the manual on the website you mentioned (this is my first time here - it was recommended by a friend).
