  1. Juniinc, Where can you find the black-coated taillights (your choice #2)?
  2. The B7 fuse was blowing, there were no brake lights and no cruise control. Turns out the service manager was wrong about a wire going up the A pillar - that didn't sound right to me either. I talked to the master service tech who said he traced the problem to the wire between the fuse box and the clutch switch (the same circuit as the brake light switch and cruise control). After he replaced that entire wire run, the B7 fuse is good, the brake lights work and the cruise control indicator lights up when the button on the stalk is pushed on. However, the cruise control itself does not work, but that is a different issue. It took the tech 8 hours of labor time to remove the melted wire and install a new wire. After thinking about it, I bet a prior owner tried splicing into that line to hook up a radar detector or other device, the splice point wasn't fully covered and began to heat-up which melted the insulation which eventually resulted in the circuit grounding itself on some metal somewhere up in the dash. Anyway, my first Porsche service visit was $1100.00 (ouch). But, they did refund me the cost of the brake light switch I purchased last week!
  3. After the brake lights went out, I checked the bulbs and fuse. The bulbs were OK, but the fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and installed a new brake light switch. However, the brake lights still did not work and the fuse was blown again. Took the Boxster to the dealer today. Was just told they found a wire under the dash (the wire originated from the relay box and went up the A pillar) that was melted through for several inches. I am going to the dealer later to find out which relay the wire originates from. Searched the boards but did not find anything similar to this problem. Has anyone ever encountered this situation? If so, what could be the cause/solution? Thanks in advance! 2001 Boxster 2.7 5-speed 70K
  4. Would the following 16" wheels from a 993 have any fitment issues with an '01 Boxster? Part numbers. Front: 993.362.114.00 Rear: 993.362.118.01 Thanks! Steve
  5. I am installing a JVC KDAR870 headunit in my 2001 (w/ Hi Fi option) and after researching several boards, I bought a Metra 70-1787 off eBay for $14.99. It's my understanding this is the proper adapter if you have the factory amplifier option. If you do not have the factory amplifier, then you likely need a different adapter, maybe the one that Crutchfield identifies. Hope this helps. Steve
  6. I removed and reinstalled my right headlight last week. I had the same concern. But, when I tightened the locking nut and saw the headlight pulled into the housing, it seems to me that it is a good fit. LITG8R2001
  7. Last week, my right low beam headlight went out. I checked the fuse and it was OK. After researching the boards, it appeared the problem could be a faulty Litronic ignition module or faulty control module. The price for each of these two modules was well over $600. I called one of the local dealers, explained the problem, and was told the H7 bulb probably needed to be replaced, but I should bring the car in so they could check it out. However, a Litronic low beam is not an H7 bulb, so it seemed to me all the dealer wanted was for me to make an expensive service visit. Instead, I checked on ebay and found a used Litronic ignition module, control module and bulb. I won the auction for $99 and received the package yesterday. When I got home, I removed the headlight, disconnected the plug and the 3 screws that hold the ignition module, swapped out the ignition modules, reinstalled the headlight and - IT WORKED. A little research and DIY can save a lot of $. LITG8R2001 2001 Boxster, Metallic Black
  8. I've searched the boards, but could not find how to remove the headlights from a Boxster. My right low beam light is out and the fuse is good. So, I wanted to check the bulb. I removed the carpet from the inside of the front trunk, but I could not get any further. Any help is appreciated! Steve 2001 Boxster, Black Metallic, 5-speed, Litronic
  9. Am purchasing a 2001 Boxster, black metallic, black interior, 5-speed, 66K. Am interested in an extended warranty. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good extended warranty company? Thanks in advance!
