  1. yea it's not nearly as common on the 996 GT3, but then i rarely browse that forum because i am interested in the 997 gt3. it's pretty annoying to think porsche still hasn't gotten it right esp in their flagship 911 models. the 996TT has a transmission issue where the gear pops out. as i understand it it'snot a simple fix and pretty much involves a full replacement. they have other nit picky items and calling that car bulletproof is a misnomer. actually, what performance cars are truly bulletproof? when you own one you learn about its quirks. certainly our m96s have its own fair share via the intermediate shaft failure and RMS stories... but i think the general advice i give to others around purchasing a 996 carrera is to find one that has a remanfactured engine replaced under factory warranty at a porsche dealership #1 if you really want to have your bases covered. i have never once heard of a reman engine failing. i'm assuming also that once someone goes thru an engine replacement, they're more mindful of maintaining the car with the right oil and properly checking the oil level. it's a great mystery that'll never be solved. all we can do is be happy, live healthy and completely enjoy the ownershp experience.
  2. From what I have heard 2005 was the worst engine build year for Porsche for the 3.6. This is according to RFM (one of the moderators here.) I wouldn't get too caught up in what you have read. This is coming from someone who's 3.4 failed at 68k miles. Make sure you check out the car thoroughly that you are considering. Get a PPI from Porsche or a reputable shop. If the car has been driven regularly that is a plus. These engines do not like to sit for long periods of time. You can avoid the common 3.6 and 3.4 issues with a Turbo or a GT3. They have a different engine (casing and oil supply system.) I'm sure others here will be able to shed further light on this subject. You can also do a search here on this topic. The TT has its own set of catastrophic issues so let's not make it sound like it's immune. The GT3 997 ... RMS is common.
  3. mk2 chassis > mk1 chassis a reman engine replaced under warranty is a plus
  4. Def not that. The smog/air pump does not squeal in any way shape or form or sound or pitch.
  5. totally non-fact/scientific OPINION here, but based on what i've seen on 911 boards, the cars that have been babied or garaged with extended queen intervals have had more issues than those driven daily. especially with the whole M96/IMS failure connection... i'd drive it more often if you can. at least once a week, 10-miles a drive. i personally don't like to have my car sit around for more than 2 weeks and try to take it out as often as i feasibly can.
  6. yea just get the latest because it's not much more. and the other guy is right. this is just one component for overall quality sound. for a truly clean install, improved sound, power, function... you need to dump at least $6K total into the system.
  7. I have the 7120 in my 4Runner and the Garmin unit is very EZ to use and the screen being so huge makes it better than the handhelds. iPod connection is trouble-free as well. I'd never put a unit in my 911, though.
  8. If they do anything to cover for you, it would be out of grace. Justice being served in this case is they perform all duties being asked for the money expended from your wallet. Sorry to hear about this it does royally suck. Way too many Porsche engines blowing up. It's so common to hear of this it's no longer a surprise --> LAME Porsche, Lame.
  9. are coilpacks typically a maintenance item or expected to last the life of the car?
  10. bro you're new to the car and you're listening for every single odd (new to you) noise. just chill, have a beer, lean back and enjoy the drive before you do this. plus, we all know what your car looks like. it's a bone stock c4s in a weird color. lol seriously, just drive the thing and enjoy life instead of trying to find faults in the car and get diagnosis online where no one can see the car in person.
  11. you have an awesome reman engine now with the latest updates, perfect. keep it for a long time man!
  12. 48K miles 2002 C4S or 8K miles a year, reman engine at 13K miles. Zero issues with the engine/tranny. Aftermarket warranty to 70K miles. Hard to pick the Jeep Cherokee over the 911 when heading out. :D
  13. just curious, why would you spend so much money making a carrera look like a turbo model?
  14. kenny i think your thread would get more love at 6speedonline than here. i think loren likes this to be more of a technical resource than bodykit resource. i started a thread on 6speed.
  15. i'm pretty impatient about my toys so it's a tough wait i tell ya. i keep looking at your c4s pics! lol i had the gt2m wing before the gtm wing. the gtm wing blade is less aggressive than the gt2m blade. porsche of persia, you can be my bodyguard. :D here are some other angles:
  16. here's a pic of my car now: I have the lowers painted, but was never 100% happy without the sideskirts and rear skirts to balance everything out. i'm ordering all parts from precision porsche in Cali. i've never seen the techart style sideskirts with the oem c4s/turbo front lip until your post here. it kinda convinced me to go for it since i have the same front as you. i know misha well. i have his gtm wing now and i used to have the same gt2m wing as you.
  17. your sideskirt post inspired me to finally get off my arse and get them. i ordered the sides and the three piece rear skirt bits to be installed in a few weeks.
  18. Not really... I have a '00 996 Carrera (MK1) with Aero-Kit and Turbo wheels! I so want to add techart sideskirts and the rear skirts to my car. i have the c4s/turbo aero lip and the GTM misha wing. where did you source your techart sideskirts? they're about $1600 right?
