ah53 posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)This fuse operates the remote mirrors. convertible top and memory control unit. Replaced fuse and with ignition switch in auxiliary position both the top and mirrors work fine. Turn to start and the fuse blows. Obvious cause or guess is the memory control unit. So, what is it, where is it, can I get one and is it accessible to a shade tree mechanic? Thanks for all and any suggestions. Joe
ah53 replied to ah53's topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)Are you sure if the battery is checked as it should? How many volt have you measured with the engine running? Since you have disconnected a fully charged battery, and the voltage drops till 11.5V on a disconnected battery, than it looks strange to me. Did i misunderstood or missed something? Thanks RFM and Loren. RFM the 11.5V was a quick look at the gauge on the battery tester (Snap on so it is reliable). It was enough to start the car even after laying with the battery disconnected for a few days. When it was connected it drained in an overnight or about 10 hrs. Loren I'll try the fuse diagnostic and so many fuses compared to the old cars I own. Another thought I had goes back to a problem I've seen on mid year Vettes were there is a short in the alternator that drains the battery. Can this occur with a Porsche? Thanks to again for your help. Now if I can only get a break in the weather in northern NJ. Joe
ah53 posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)About 3 months ago the original battery on my '04 C4S cab died and I replaced it with a heavy duty Sears. Everything was fine till about 2 weeks ago when I went to start the car after leaving it sit for 3 days. The battery was stone dead. Sears check the batter and declared it good. Put it back in the car drove it for the day and it was fine. Two days later dead. I jumped the car drove it about 20 miles and checked I had a full charge on the battery. Disconnected the ground from it and checked the battery in 4 days. Its showed abot 11.5 volts. Took the car for a ride to be sure I had a full charge and left everything connected. Checked the battery the next day and again dead as a door nail. Before I turn the car, and my 401K over to the Porsche dealer does anyone have any ideas. I'm assuming there is a short somewhere. Thanks Joe
ah53 replied to ah53's topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)Loren I took your advice and searched the achieves. After reading a good amount of the info there I've come to a conclusion best paraphrased by Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry - "Do I feel lucky today". Stories like C2cab seem prevalent from many posters. The consensus seemed to put insurances policies on line at the top of the list, if I do decide to take the leap. I appreciate the direct help from you both and to all the list. Be well Joe
ah53 posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)In Sept. the lease is up on my 2004 C4S cab. It shares driving duties with some other toys and only has 19000 miles on it. The 4 years have gone well with the only problem being a balky top.(It took forever for the dealer to get it fixed right.) Has anyone purchased an extended warranty? Can I ask what was the cost? Who did you purchase it from and was it worth the money? Thanks. Joe
ah53 replied to ah53's topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)Thanks for the info. I want to see what the drain system looks like. The dealer had the car for 17 days in Aug , claimed to clean the drains twice and I still have water.
Hi. I'm new here but have owned my C4S cab since I bought it new in 2004. The car has been great; dealer service on the other hand leaves much to be desired. I have read all the posts regarding the cleaning of the rear drains but am still unclear about how to remove the side panel to get to them. Any help or a schematic would be appreciated. The clogged drains and a faulty top have been the only problems. It took 2 years and about 10 visits to get the top corrected. I'm not in the mood to go through the same aggravation for the drains.
