  1. Help needed with the Eisen IMS Settlement! In July 2008, my 2002 Boxster (~35k miles at the time) suffered catastrophic IMS failure. I took it to the dealer, who recommended and performed engine replacement. Now, I have elected to participate in the Eisen v. Porsche lawsuit. However, the firm who is handling the claim says that my documentation is insufficient. In particular, the firm is asking me to submit a statement, a note, or whatever from the dealer, indicating explicitly that the IMS had failed and engine replacement was in order. I contacted the dealer, who declined to provide anything but a copy of the bill, which describes the items/operations I paid for. I had already submitted this document with my claim, in addition to pictures of the damaged engine, which were taken at the time by the dealer. The pictures clearly show that the end of the shaft had sheared off, leaving a gaping hole that let the entire oil drain on the street. At the time, the service technician told me explicitly that failure of the seal had caused the shaft to shear right off. Unfortunately, at the time it did not occur to me to ask him to put it in writing. He only gave me pictures of the old and new engine. I am wondering if anybody else has experienced the same. If anybody had pictures AND a document by their delear/garage, which clearly said that this type of damage was due to IMS failure, then I could probably make a case and overcome the un-cooperative dealer. Thank you in advance! Loretta
  2. Juniinc, It had ~45K when it happened. Dan Scott, I will probably hear from Porsche in the next day or two telling me "get lost". My engine has metal filings throughout. However, two class action firms have called me back and one of them is already sueing Audi/VW for something. The firm is Chemicles & Tikellis. Look them up and call them. Ask for Ben Johns and tell him you are a fellow Renntech member and I suggested you call him. I told him I would. Bob
  3. Dear Bob and Scott, I am in the same situation. Just replaced the engine of a 2002 Boxster due to IMS failure. Porsche USA does not want to fess up responsibility for the flawed design. Not even partial help!!! I just can't believe it!!! I called Chemicles & Tikellis as you suggested, but they decided not to go for it. Do you know of anybody else who may want to follow through? Any suggestion/advice will be greatly appreciated!!! Dan Scott, I will probably hear from Porsche in the next day or two telling me "get lost". My engine has metal filings throughout. 4. FrayAdjacent986, I saw that, too, as soon as I got the old top removed. Unfortunately, I had hard time getting those infernal clamping rails removed. The little lips that hold the pins broke and now I am waiting for new parts in the mail... Later, Dan
  5. FrayAdjacent986, Sounds good! Make sure to take good pictures! If there is anything major, I'll post it here. Dan
  6. Dear FrayAdjacent986, I wish I could be there, but I live in Maryland... :) This weekend, I plan to replace the top of my 2002 Boxster with a Robbins I've just got in the mail. I found Mike Focke's DIY instructions that look very straightforward. However, I could not find any instructions on how to remove the headliner. I searched the forum and the whole site very hard, to no avail. I just want to make sure I can do that damage-free, as I will need to put it back on. Do you have any good tip? Thanks, Dan
  7. Thank you, Loren! I went back to the Carrera tread, which points to a DIY by dhphil66. Could not find his original instructions. I tried to email him directly, but I've got no answer, yet. Any idea where to get this info? Thanks :) , Dan
  8. Anybody out there, We have a 2002 Boxster. The backup lights won't come on. I replaced the bulbs with new ones. All the other lights come on all right, so I can probably exclude a burnt fuse. Should I check anything else before I start to worry about the switch (the one controlled by the stick)? Any other suggestion on how to narrow down the source? If it is the swicth, do you have suggestions/instructions to fix it myself? I saw an old thread on the Carrera's forum, but I was wondering if anybody has something more specific for a Boxster. Thanks :) Dan (just using my wifes subscription...)
  9. Loren, It worked like a charm!!! Thanks a lot!!! Loretta :)
  10. Loren, I just bought a 2002 Boxter. The seller just replaced the battery, but lost the radio code. The system is a Becker 1 Type 4362 Serial # 5002217 I saw that you have a nifty program that may get me out of trouble without running to the dealer... Also, the LCD display of the climate control panel is not working properly. My husband is a handy man (he claims...) and promised that he will replace it himself if I can get ahold of the part. Any idea of how to find the serial number? Were do you think I could get a good deal on such an item? Any help will be really appreciated!!! Ciao, Loretta
