  1. You're probably not completely filling the tank either. There are posts that people are getting a few gallons less that the capacity of the tank. I recall problems with a gas flap in the tank for those years for both 911s and 986s. As said, you're probably not filling the tank completely and you don't realize it, because the pump is stopping you.
  2. If it is made as the same softish plastic/rubber material as the OEM Boxster "flaps" then you will likely find that the body/paint shop is unwilling to guarantee the paint job. The more "flex" in the material, the more likely the paint bond will crack over time. It shouldn't really matter unless you believe they will be getting a lot of action from rock impacts. I had my mudflaps painted about about 2 months the paint pealed off and looked horrible And there we go...why flexible things are not painted. :D

  4. Depends on what you are using them for - are they for winter, summer or all season? I run 255/50 for my winter tires and 275/40 for summer tires... JR You can also use TireRack.com to show the different tires that will fit certain size wheels.
  5. Those look great...I spent a few weekends cutting grills for 986s to see how they would sell on eBay...they sold very well, but I didn't want to spend time doing it anymore. I like the mesh you used...where did you purchase it? Short story...I made these for a friend of mine...two months later he was driving on the freeway when a sizable stone perferated the mesh...it stuck in it though. With the damage to the cheap, replaceable mesh, he could tell that would have put a nice hole in the radiator, rather than bending the cooling fins. Worth the investment, and yes, you can use the black for a subtle look if you don't want it to look too flashy. Good work.
  6. Definitely Kuhmos. Go to Tirerack.com and get them for like $90ish a piece. Try the ECSTA ASX for all-season performance. I've had these for over a year now and love them. You'll immediately notice a stiffer feel, but after a few days you don't notice that anymore. The speed (Z), strength (AA?), and tread (440) ratings are all superior or the same as the OEM Michelins. Actually, the treads are 2x the rating. Barring nails or other hazards, should be able to get great mileage even if you are autocrossing. They also look very nice.
  7. I'm definitely snorkeling tomorrow. Biggest fear is a cigarette going into the filter, burning a hole, etc. Think about mesh to cover the intake (and matching opposing air vent. I'd really like some 18" Carrera Lites but can't afford them right now. Buy clones on eBay. I have some friends who did this, can't tell the difference and a set costs <$900. I want to buy the clear/red tail lights from an 04+ and side markets, then the silverbulbs Again, eBay, I found mine for <$170. Suncoast Porsche I think. What other mods would you recommends for someone on a budget. What were you first and favorite mods? First was clear sidemarkers, then rear lights Silver bulbs in both. Have fronts on the way...don't want to pay for lits so I ordered the 2003 fronts (all clear) for $130 per. I don't think I can get anyone else that deal. Silver grilles all around. Installed rear diffusors and painted the bumperettes to match the car. So far all mine have been cosmetic.
  8. Oh yeah, airflow is reported at 68% flow through for the mesh. As for running high temps...I'm not sure what the correct running temperature is, so I have no comparison.
  9. I used to sell cut and rubber lined grille mesh for the front bumper of "S" and "non-S" Boxsters 1997-2003, and the side air vents of MY1997-2004. I made them in both silver aluminum and black powdercoated aluminum. I have spare sheet metal, but some others already sell them for cheaper than I care to make for on eBay. Just do a search for "boxster grill" or "boxster grille" and you should find them. I was the first to offer on eBay, but since then a couple of stores that make grilles undercut my fun little operation. Some pics below. Also, if you want to try different styles, www.customcargrills.com has sheet mesh for sale...just make sure you have some tin snips and you purchase the neoprene rubber trim from them for the sharp edges. That was where I got all my supplies. I even made some for the rear diffusors that I just installed.
  10. Pics? for some reason the spoiler pic didn't come out here it is... here is my after pic with the newly added rear diffusors and rear grille mesh...
  11. Pics? for some reason the spoiler pic didn't come out here it is...
  12. Pics? Here are a few pics... 1. a picture of the bumperette removed and the hex bolt and mounting bracket. 2. a picture of the spoiler with the bracket removed and the hex bolt that holds the spoiler bracket in place. 3. a picture of the spoiler plugs with center bits or whatever they are called.
  13. This has nothing to do with the exhaust discussion...how do you like your modified retractable spoiler? I've debated in my head whether or not I should change for the "pass-through" look instead of the "block" look. Do you feel that the spoiler looks too small without the solid bracket? Has there been any change in the feel of the car at high speed? Thanks for any input.
  14. Which exhaust did you get? How does it sound? Did everything just bolt in easily? I'm considering doing the same thing, any word would be helpful.
  15. I have your solution to the cigarette butt...(see picture)...I have cut and installed wire mesh to cover the side vents...it has a neoprene rubber trim to protect the car. I made them in silver and black when I was selling them on eBay for fun. It was a race to the bottom with some people who bought mine and then copied and sold for cheaper...so I simply stopped selling...however I have a few stock pieces left over if you want to pay for shipping!
  16. I've thought about this one too...one of the most economical is from maxspeed-motorsports...they have eBay listings with videos. Direct bolt-on swap of the muffler or headers too if you are so inclined. They have a video posted on eBay and YouTube...just look up "Boxster Muffler". It's hard to tell a difference when you are not physically there to experience it and that is why I hesitate. Probably won't add much HP but will probably decrease the weight by 10-20 lbs. from what I hear. You could desnorkel to get some more sound as well.
  17. By the way the mesh that I used (and sold) had an air pass through ratio of 68%. That means that outside air could easily pass through 68% of the surface of the mesh. Yours looks a little more restrictive...hopefully your car has not suffered performance-wise.
  18. Yeah, done this and sold them on eBay while they were hot. The only trouble I've had with them is that they get so blasted hot after the car is turned off. Got some pics attached.
  19. It's 99% certain that the K&N is causing it. The oil will ruin the MAF...I do wish that I had ordered the MAF myself...the local service shop charged me about $800 for purchase and installation. Afterwards I read up about it and found out that the MAF sensor is one of the easiest parts to replace...although still a little on the costly side. I'm not even sure if the service shop even bought a new one or cleaned the old one...things I wish I asked!!!
  20. I have read about this and have seen a finished one at my local autocross events. They look very nice! The reading I did was about one set for sale on eBay...don't know if it is still there. Apparently the difficulty lies with altering the mounting brackets for the "updated/pointy headlights". They don't fit quite right with the traditional headlight brackets. The Ruf/Roock conversions are COSTLY. The eBay set...including the side fenders, front bumper cover, and the set of headlights with clear corners ran $5,000. Then you have to paint and install. Hope that helps. Here is the link...I just found this on eBay...you can call them for instructions I'm sure. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Box...sspagenameZWD1V -A
