  1. I have owned Porsches for 8 or so years now. Last year, I upgraded from a 996 C4S to a 997.2 GTS. One of the reasons was to avoid engine failures.

The current car is a 2012 GTS with 15k miles on it. Still under factory warranty.

So, few months ago, I developed a strange knocking noise in my engine. By the time I made it to a dealer, it was gone. I was advised to come back if the noise comes back.

I did in cold weather (about 0 deg) few days ago. I took the car to the dealer. Porsche advised them to take the engine apart and see what they find.

On the bottom of the oil pan, they found bunch of different size plastic shavings (from shavings, to 1 inch chunks). There was also about a 2 inch pin that broke off from something. They suspect it came from the area around the tensioner. They are taking it apart even further to see what they find.

I was told that they may just replace the timing chain or whatever needs to be done around there, go through the engine looking for other damage and put it back together.

I feel very uncomfortable with that. Plastic shavings can damage bearings, cams, etc. Right?

I strongly believe, they should put a new engine in it considering all the possible future problems caused by potential damage.

    Any experiences? Ideas?

    Thank you in advance,
    Mark

  2. I am getting ready to go aftermarket with my stereo. I have an 03 C4S with the Bose option.

My understanding is that the wires from the amp in the trunk to the speakers are not fiber optic. Is that correct?

If so, is there one wire coming out of the amp and there is a crossover between the amp and the speakers or is the crossover build into the amp?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch.

    Mark.

  3. I have been experiencing a similar situation (2003 C2 with CDR-23 & Bose), although

it usually occurs during th colder months (here in Boston area) say, Dec thru Apr.

On startup in the morning, the radio will hang in it's startup process (display reads "PORSCHE")

and go no further. At this point, nothing electronic works (buttons, etc.), no sound.

BUT, the eject button works (if a CD is in), and sometimes by jogging a CD in & out,

it eventually MAY start playing, maybe, if the car starts getting warm.

This problem has been attacked by two dealers. They have replaced the Bose amp,

CDR-23 radio (twice), and eventually replaced the MOST optical cabling. Problem

is still there intermittently, and I've resigned myself to the fact that 2003 was the first

year for the MOST system, and it has design flaws! The last speculation is that some

I have had my radio have no sound but all the controls appear to work.I can change volume (number appears to go up/down) change stations (new name etc.) but no sound. Re-starting will return things to normal, although I had to do it four times , the last time it happened (yesterday).

Could this be a flaky ignition switch? I know these can cause all kinds of goofy things. I Had a new switch nearly a year ago. Do these switches fail often?

I have the same exact issues with my stereo on an 03 C4S with Bose. And it is not the amp. That was replaced and no change. The head unit was replaced and no change.

I am so fed up with that, I am thinking of replacing/rewiring the entire system.

Do you guys know how much rewiring I would need to do to bypass the MOST. From what I have heard, I can use the factory speakers and sub, but will need 2 new amps (speakers and sub - 7 chanels) and new wiring.

    Any ideas?
