  1. After almost 2 weeks in the shop, and telling me there is no way anyone damage could be done and no one would approve a new engine, they found deep scratches in one of the valves. 30 minutes later, Porsche approved a new engine. I guess I will need to brake it in before thinking about any DEs. :D
  2. I started yelling for new engine as they are trying to fix it. I was told by many that it is too much damage to fix (including mechanics who saw my engine). We will see what will come out of it.
  3. You know, being in the automotive business, strange things happen to people's cars. Including the Bentley, Ferrari, etc. dealerships. It is scary what we see on daily basis.
  4. It seems that the situation JFP is describing would apply to cars that were not fixed by Porsche under warranty. I would hope that they would put the correct engine in if needed.
  5. how would anyone feel about buying a car that had a new engine put in? good? bad? any concerns with depreciation? thanks everyone for your input.
  6. I have owned Porsches for 8 or so years now. Last year, I upgraded from a 996 C4S to a 997.2 GTS. One of the reasons was to avoid engine failures. The current car is a 2012 GTS with 15k miles on it. Still under factory warranty. So, few months ago, I developed a strange knocking noise in my engine. By the time I made it to a dealer, it was gone. I was advised to come back if the noise comes back. I did in cold weather (about 0 deg) few days ago. I took the car to the dealer. Porsche advised them to take the engine apart and see what they find. On the bottom of the oil pan, they found bunch of different size plastic shavings (from shavings, to 1 inch chunks). There was also about a 2 inch pin that broke off from something. They suspect it came from the area around the tensioner. They are taking it apart even further to see what they find. I was told that they may just replace the timing chain or whatever needs to be done around there, go through the engine looking for other damage and put it back together. I feel very uncomfortable with that. Plastic shavings can damage bearings, cams, etc. Right? I strongly believe, they should put a new engine in it considering all the possible future problems caused by potential damage. Any experiences? Ideas? Thank you in advance, Mark
  7. I have the same symptoms of the window going down and then right up. Sometimes, it comes down again, than goes back and lowers itself half way down or so. Do you guys think it is also the regulator or possibly something else/additonal. Thank you for your help. Mark.
  8. thank you for that info. i assume the wires going to the back amp for the subs are also fiber optic, so I will need to rewire it as well, right? mark
  9. I am getting ready to go aftermarket with my stereo. I have an 03 C4S with the Bose option. My understanding is that the wires from the amp in the trunk to the speakers are not fiber optic. Is that correct? If so, is there one wire coming out of the amp and there is a crossover between the amp and the speakers or is the crossover build into the amp? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch. Mark.
  10. if you are a non-US citizen insuring for the first time, the cost is MUCH higher for the first year.
  11. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...tereo&st=20 look at post #27 with me the time is the issue, i can figure most of it, but it it takes to much time, i tend to give up
  12. from what i understand, there are two amps - one in the front and one in the back. i am not sure if it is the case with all of them or only with the Bose systems. i am planning to do some work to mine, but not really sure about all the kinks that i may need to overcome.
  13. did you replace the factory amp with anything else, or just use the head unit and the speakers with no amp?
  14. I have had my radio have no sound but all the controls appear to work.I can change volume (number appears to go up/down) change stations (new name etc.) but no sound. Re-starting will return things to normal, although I had to do it four times , the last time it happened (yesterday). Could this be a flaky ignition switch? I know these can cause all kinds of goofy things. I Had a new switch nearly a year ago. Do these switches fail often? Tim in MT 2003 targa I have the same exact issues with my stereo on an 03 C4S with Bose. And it is not the amp. That was replaced and no change. The head unit was replaced and no change. I am so fed up with that, I am thinking of replacing/rewiring the entire system. Do you guys know how much rewiring I would need to do to bypass the MOST. From what I have heard, I can use the factory speakers and sub, but will need 2 new amps (speakers and sub - 7 chanels) and new wiring. Any ideas?
