  1. $3,200 seems cheap to me. I would imagine it will be quite a bit more than that once you figure in paint, labor, etc. Why not just buy a 2008?
  2. I actually called Pioneer and discussed this with them. I was told that it was not compatible with the Cayenne. I don't know if it is true or not, but that's what they told me... That's pretty disappointing.... Thanks for the reply though.... Any idea if there's another one that may work? I think Kenwood makes one as well, a DNX7100 that's similar in terms of functionality to the pioneer. I'm not convinced that the Pioneer unit won't work. It might be worth further investigation. The Pioneer rep that I contacted didn't seem too familiar with Porsches.
  3. I actually called Pioneer and discussed this with them. I was told that it was not compatible with the Cayenne. I don't know if it is true or not, but that's what they told me...
  4. Congratulations on your new purchase. I would think that your Porsche factory warranty would cover this item. Are you already out of that warranty and into the CPO coverage? My 2004 Cayenne S is still covered by the standard 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty until October of this year. When I have used warranty service, they have covered everything without any questions - the only exception being what they considered normal wear items, like battery, brakes, etc. Good luck!
  5. Brakes for the cayennes are 20K front rotors and pads on mine 700 USD 19K I'm still on my original brakes at 37K miles. I do drive quite a bit on the highway, so I don't brake as often as I would in city driving. My Cayenne was in yesterday for the 40K oil change and the dealer said the brakes look fine, and that I shouldn't worry about changing them until the indicator light comes on. BTW, there are not significant grooves in my rotors.
  6. I've got updates on my PCM 2 also, but they are still horribly out of date. I think they were last updated in early 2005. What is the date on your update?
  7. Congrats on your new Cayenne. Unfortunately I don't know much about your issue. On the US Cayennes the rearview camera is under the rear window latch, providing a view to the rear of the vechicle. I don't know if there is an side camera available. As you have already discovered, the Porsche owner's manual can be confusing. You'll probably find other areas where this is also the case.
  8. I wonder if the updated maps from the VW Touareg would work in the Cayenne? There is a new set available on Navteq's webside for $249. Maybe it is worth it...
  9. Glad to hear the chip worked out for you. The price sounds good too. I'd love to do something like that as well, but I have the normally aspirated V8 in my Cayenne. I doubt I'd see much improvement. I am still planning to do the FabSpeed pipes. So the sound is a little louder, but not crazy? That sounds like just exactly what I need.
  10. I've heard that some people have successfully replaced thier stock system with Pioneer AVIC D3 system. It certainly looks interesting, and I have actually been considering it as a replacement to the current PCM NAV system that I have in my Cayenne. It has up to date DVD-based NAV, Bluetooth, XM, I-Pod integration, etc. It looks nice on their website. I don't know how well it would integrate with existing hardware, but it might be intetresting to find out.
  11. What is the build date on the car in question? My 2004 CS hesitates very slightly, but not like what I've seen described here. This could be a coil issue... Your comments on "PSM off" driving are interesting too. My CS will typically not get out of 4th gear if I drive with PSM off. It starts in 1st, hold the gears for fairly high revs, and then gets up as high as 4th.
  12. The spare tire was, in fact, optional for this vehicle. You can order an inflatable spare and add it to your Cayenne from your Porsche dealer. 2004s have been a little bit of a crap shoot in terms of problems. They are vastly better than 2003 models, but they are not without problems. A Cayenne with a build date in 2003 should probably be avoided. My suggestion is to ask the dealer to pull the service history for you to review. You want to make sure this car hasn't had major issues, and that the relevant TSBs have been done. The biggest common problems for 2004 Cayennes seem to be: - Transmission (mostly early build models) - Cardan shaft - Coils - Assorted small problems, like inadequate wiper blades, fogged up headlights, etc. If you find a good 2004 Cayenne, you could be very happy. If everything checks out, you will probably be happy. For reference, my Cayenne was built in May of 2004. It has had a few minor things here and there, but nothing major. I've been very happy with it. Good luck!
  13. Some Cayennes have had problems with the universal joints/cardan shafts - especially the 2003 and 2004 models. I'm not sure if this is what you are experiencing, but it could be. Do you know if this issue has been previously addressed on your Cayenne?
  14. Great to hear that you are making progress! I am still very interested in this project - I wish there was some way I could help. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the DVD. Maybe we could get a group from this board together to chip in and buy a new DVD from Navteq for the data.
  15. I'd be especially interested in the results of the frankenstein operation. I've wondered the same thing. My wife's HUMMER has a fantastic DVD-based nav system, and I wish the Cayenne had something similar. I actually sent an email to Navteq asking for a custom CD project for my Cayenne, and I offered to pay for it. They didn't return my email. Let me know how it works.
  16. What do you mean by Sport Setting? I wasn't aware of any sport mode on these cars, there is a sport suspension mode, right? Thanks~ Mark I believe the newer models do have a proper "sport" button. For older models, "PCM off" provides a similar experience, at least in terms of transmission shift points, etc.
  17. Ask your dealer - they'll tell you that oil consuption is very common for Cayennes, especially S models and Turbos. I check mine every 1,500 miles or so, and in my case there is not any excessive consumption. Some do it, some don't.
  18. Yes, the sound did (generally) disappear when the fan was turned off. It could also be heard very clearly when the engine was turned off, and the heater was activated. The noise was not consistent, although it only appeared when the engine was warm. I believe this is engine coolant, as this is used for the cabin heating system.
  19. My 2004 Cayenne S has been to the dealer for repair on a similar issue 3 times. This week, they diagnosed the problem as the "coolant after-run pump". There is a TSB regarding noise from this pump and a repair procedure. Mine is scheduled to be repaired today, and I'm picking it up this afternoon. Hopefully this will do the trick! Initial diagnosis on this problem was "blend-air door actuator". This didn't fix it. They then looked at the blower motor, and realized this wasn't it. My symptoms were very similar to what you describe - sometimes I heard it, sometimes I didn't. Good luck with yours... I'll let you know if this fix works on mine.
  20. I believe he is referring to the Porsche OEM wheel spacers that you could have ordered directly from the option sheet for sure .. Official porsche parts is high quallity anf under warranty for the whole car future damages because if the steering column or or something on steering system have a future problem who will take the resposibillity if you use after market part? you loose any warranties I was referring to the Porsche 17mm spacer, not an aftermarket product.
  21. I do the same. I have them balanced on a Hunter Road Force machine. It produces a much better balance than the typical spinning type of balancer. You can go on Hunter's website to find one close to you. Unfortunately for me, the closest one is at the Porsche dealer. Go figure...
  22. I have 20" Sport Techno wheels on my 2004 Cayenne S. I rotate them every 5,000 miles. I don't have any problems with vibration right now, and my current tires have approximately 10K miles. The original Continentals lasted about 26,000 miles, and they were vibrating a little by the time they were changed.
  23. Yeah - my bad. Should have searched first. I just found krilic's photos from 2006. I think it looks good, but I don't think I'd put them on the front.
  24. I've considered adding those to my rear wheels also. I have the 9x20 Sport Technos all around. Does anybody have a photo of a Cayenne fitted with them?
