  1. FYI - California residents - I had the CE light come on during a smog test and ther result was a failed test even though it passed all the emissions testing. I have read in many places on this site that the DME needs to run through cycles before it can be properly tested and resetting the light does not necessarily provide the proper "clearing" needed to pass emissions testing. The test station mentioned this as well - that disconnecting the battery or resetting the light with DigiMoto or whatever will still read a light fault during the smog test. I took my car to the dealer who investigated and determined I had a small vaccuum leak somewhere in my EVO intake and that my MAF and O2 sensors were all ok. They cleared the DME and said I should monitor the light but no repairs were performed I went directly to the smog test station...where the car promptly passed inspection. Hope this helps anyone with their CEL on before a smog test as it was bothering me when trying to pass that test. By the way, my hat's off to The Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills, CA. They tested my car, checked for vaccuum leaks and reset the CEL and didn't charge me a dime. I would definitely refer any friends with Porsches to them for fair service. Ask for Don in service. They also handle Ferrari, Maserati, and Audi.
  2. 1999 Boxster - My CEL has been coming on and when I read the codes it's the often discussed, ever dreaded P1123 and P1125 codes. I pulled the MAF and cleaned it, reset the light and drove for about 40 miles before it came on again. I hooked up my DigiMoto and started looking at numbers that have been posted on this site. My MAF seems to read fine at about 5.9 g/sec at start-up and settling in at around 5.16 to 5.2 g/sec when warm. My problem is the oxygen sensors. They fluctuate slightly but basically I get the following readings: Bank 1 Sensor 1 = 0.84 Bank 1 Sensor 2 = 0.64 Bank 2 Sensor 1 = Massive fluctuations reading .04, .06, .125, .2, and .76 Bank 2 Sensor 2 = Readings from .195 to .3 What exactly is this indicative of? It seems to me that Bank 2 (whichever side that is) is the side with the problem but what is the likely diagnosis? Also which sensor is which under the car? When I look at the exhaust there is an upper sensor and a lower sensor on each side. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I cannot pass the CA smog test with the CEL on and I hate to spend ghastly amounts of money at the dealer. Another note - the smog test station says that even when resetting the light or disconnecting the battery the CEL stays in memory and the smog testor will pick that up and fail the test. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks! Steve
  3. Yes - I added the EVO highflow - I have been wondering if I should clean the MAF or not as I'm sure there's a possibility of damage while cleaning it. The CE light comes on, I read the 1125 and 1126 codes, reset the light and the light stays off for a week or two before the same scenario happens. The car seems to be running great, sounds great, etc....just that pesky light.
  4. I have a '99 986 - Can anyone tell me the possible reason(s) for codes P1125 and P1126 coming up at the same time? The car seems to be running fine but does smell like it's running a little rich. Is something (O2 sensor?) getting ready to fail? I live about 2 hours from the nearest dealer so I want to find out what's going on before I end up towing it there! Thanks!
  5. I have a 99 Boxster with the 502 option code (Valmet production at Uusikaupunki in Finland.) What, if anything, does this mean with regards to the car? Is it different than Boxsters assembled somewhere else?
  6. I bought a DigiMoto kit (www.digimoto.com) and it works great too. Nice displays and can be used on a laptop or handheld PC. It can also be used while driving to display your torque, horsepower, 0-60 times, etc. The kit is a small box, 1 cable to go from the box to the OBD-II port, and 1 cable to go from the box to the laptop. Very simple to use. They sell cheaper on e-bay than through their website.
  7. I originally wanted to have the interior pieces painted but my interior is black and the car is basalt so I doubt it would have much impact if they were painted. I do have some aluminum trim (shifter & parking brake handle) that are stock so I guess I could go that route.
  8. Does anyone have any experience/feedback on the NUMEROUS different types of adhesive-based trim kits? I know it's the cheap way to go but are there some brands that are better than others? Anyone recommend this (or not doing this?)
  9. Anyone know the correct part number for the box itself? I don't need the other hoses or filter holder. Looking at mine it has 2 numbers 996.110.021.06 and 996.110.021.07. What's the difference? Thanks!
  10. If only... That would involve reinstalling the entire air box assembly (which did NOT make it out in one piece.) I suppose I'll just drive it for a while and see if the code returns. If it comes back I may be in the market for a used Boxster air box and a gag to keep my wife's mouth shut ("I told you you shouldn't add anything to that car!") Thanks -
  11. Loren: Are you talking intake air leak before or after the throttle body? If before, how would it know if there was a leak when so much additional air is flowing by with the EVO High Flow kit? Is it an after the MAF sensor type leak where the flow rate numbers read by the MAF don't match the flow rate numbers through the throttle body?
  12. I bought a set of these off EBay and they look very nice on the car. They have a few different versions available and they are nice and sturdy. $75 bucks is better than $400!
  13. I recently got a check engine light about 200 miles after installing the EVO HighFlow Kit. I bought the Digitimoto OBDII system and ran the OBD II test. I only had one code - P1125 that showed up as a Throttle Position Sensor Intermittent. I'm reading on here that Porsche P1125 is Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Lean Threshold. What is most likely the cause of this code and how can it be fixed? I reset the ce light and ran the car for about another 15 minutes and the light never returned. Could it just have been a one-timer?
