  1. I follow threads about service dealers on a few forums - mostly out of curiosity - and usually find a mix of love/hate reports. I have to say that Motor Meister is probably the only one that has universal bad reviews. I'm not saying there isn't a positive experience out there, just that it seems to be well hidden.
  2. TRE Motorsports in Van Nuys, CA has an answer for this. I'm not sure if they sell the kits or just perform the work, but I know they do a Boxster brake conversion.
  3. I go almost every Saturday. It starts at about 6:30 AM and ends at 9 AM. I believe that it started with a gathering of enthusiasts in Crystal Cove but they were "asked to leave" as I understand it due to neighbor complaints. Ford Motor Company - through VP John Clinard, a long-time collector and enthusiast - graciously offered the use of their Premiew Auto Group (PAG) parking lot for the gathering. It's at the corner of Gateway and Alton in Irvine. There are typically about 400 cars coming and going, and there are some Saturdays in which special marques are showcased (still not sure how this is scheduled but seems like word-of-mouth). Last week there were about 100 Acura NSXs and I have been there when over 50 Lamborginis showed up. Lots of variety in the mix and there are usually about 60-70 Porsches (including Carrera GTs), a few dozen Ferraris (even the occasional Enzo) and Lambos, along with cliques of Imprezza/EVOs, GTRs, Panteras, Ford GTs (naturally), Aston Martins, and any number of British cars (Triumphs, Austin Healys, MGs, Mini Coopers, Jags). I have never went when there wasn't at least one very special car that stood out for me (1960 Ferrari TDF, Zagato-bodied Aston Martin, Porsche GT1, Jaguar D-type racer, etc.). There is a lot of money in OC and collectors often dust off something special to show off. Definitely worth visiting and there is no charge except for food/drink. A great way to get ideas for your own ride and talk to other enthusiasts.
  4. Design 911 has 'em. Even though they are in the UK they ship everywhere. I've used them a number of times with good results. http://www.design911.co.uk/pages/productLi...spx?search=bose
  5. I remember reading somewhere that the ones built in Finland (vast majority of them) have better build quality than the ones from Germany. I bought my 2001S from a dealer that wasn't familiar with Porsches and I used the "U" in the VIN to bluff him into thinking it wasn't as desirable and talked the price down a bit more.
  6. I got Litronics from Design911.cu.uk and have been very happy. They cost well below what others were selling them for at the time (about 2 yrs ago) and were a simple plug-and-play installation. Since them I have been back to Design911 for a number of items. Always good service and fast delivery - even to the US.
  7. I have a 2001 Boxster S. My local independent Porsche specialist installed Dansk headers and extended the second set of O2 sensors aft of the secondary cats. In conjunction with that - and an EVO cold air intake - he had Powerchip program the ECU with the modifications in mind and I've had no trouble at all. In fact, my car still passed the smog sniffer for the DMV with no problems. The sound is fantastic and it seems to have way more power than before (you can save your somments about my butt dyno being unreliable - its the only one that matters to me). Much more responsive and no CEL after about 5,000 miles.
  8. Here is my option. 340 mm from FVD (slightly smaller), and also a console delete from Suncoast. But then again, I'm 6', 210 lbs and had no problem w/the original set up.
  9. I got mine at Suncoast for about $62, if I remember right. Actually, I got two - it's a good idea to have a spare around since these are very vulnerable to curbs. But I am still on the first one after about 6K miles and a few scrapes with driveway dips, knock wood.
  10. Porsche dealer will quote about $1200, but I got mine done at a very capable independent in Santa Monica for $540 using all OEM parts.
  11. No holes necessary. They come with clips that tap onto to a ridge under the car and the upper portion has double-sided tape. My description probably isn't very clear but it's a pretty clever method and I've had them for about two years with no problems - plus you can revert back to stock easily if you want to.
  12. Valentine V-1. I had Escorts and Passports in the '80s, but I've been converted.
  13. In my experience, it's better to take it to an independent after any warranty benefits have expired. There are lots and lots of independents who specialize in, and know Porsches just about as well as dealers - and don't charge anywhere near as much. Many of them race Porshes on the side and are willing to do aftermarket mods more readily than a dealer would. A case in point for cost savings: I had a leaky coolant reservoir in my '01 Boxster S. The local Porsche dealer asked if I had a warranty because it would be $1,200 - $1,300 (citing ~$500 in parts alone). The next nearest dealer advised roughly the same over the phone. I called an independent I heard of on a forum and got it done with factory parts for $540 - and they did it the same day while I waited. This independent is one of the pioneers in transplanting 3.4s and 3.6s in Boxsters and they specialize in Porsche and Ferrari. They have done all my work since and it always ends up being 1/3 to 1/2 what a dealer estimates.
  14. Do you happen to know what the difference is? The person I am dealing with says that he looked at the parts lists for both and can't see any difference. Someone elase told me that the spring rates (rear?) are different because of the weight of the tiptronic, but he wasn't sure. I have the opportunity to get a good deal on a kit with the 22 suffix, but I have a 6-speed. Thanks.
  15. Thanks for the quicl response. You guys are great!
  16. Does anyone know the difference between kits 000.044.500.21 and 000.044.500.22? I have a 2001 Boxster S, US, LHD, 6 speed but I am getting conflicting information. Thanks.
