  1. I just got new 20 inch wheels and I need to get some rubber. Any comments on what to look at and which to avoid would be great. Suggestions supported by actual experience is what I am seeking most here but all comments are welcomed. Details: 2006 Carrera S Cab 20 inch wheels Most likey: 245/30/20F 305/25/20R Ultra High Performance Summer
  2. They are a Vossen 094s. Wheel Dynamics sells them. They sell a bunch of other cheap (and fugly) wheels for porsche but it seems that most of what they sell is designed for 996s an not so much for 997s.
  3. I am looking for some technical advice about wheel size. I have an 2006 C2S Cab and I am looking to put some 20 inch aftermarket wheels on it. I found some affordable wheels I really dig but the widest they come in are 10.5 inches (not in 11 inches like the factory rims). I actually prefer the look of the tire on the narrower rim than I do on the 11 inch. FWIW - Below are pics of my car and of the wheels I like. Is there any techinical reasons why I should not go with a slightly narrower rim if the offset and all othe aspects of the wheel are correct for my car? Thanks in advance. B)
  4. Well that's interesting. How do you select which number you want for a particular contact? On mine, each contact/name only shows up once. So for example, if I have a work, home, and cell number for Joe Schmoe, I only see one Joe Schmoe entry in the PCM. How do you toggle between the different numbers for the same contact?
  5. I have had my Dension and Tooki units installed and some time to get used to them. For the most part they are OK but neither is without it own short-comings. Perhaps there is a way around them or I am missing something since neither come with instruction manual worth the paper they are printed on. If anyone has any advice/tips/comments on what I might try or be doing wrong, please share. The issues that people should know before installing are as follows: Dension Gateway 500: There is no way to take the search path Artist>Album>Song. This is really lame. If you search by artist, you get every song by that artist in the track list. There is no way (that I can find) to get a list only of albums by a particular artist. Since this is how I select music 90% of the time on my iPod, this is a big pain point for me. The other big pain point is the load time. It takes my unit 30 seconds to load. For example, if you do a "Search by Artist" you get a list of the artist names on your ipod. Once you select one, it starts to play the first track. If you press the next button (>>) at that point it goes to the next artist, not the next song as you would expect. You have to wait 30+ seconds for all of the artist's tracks to load before the next button goes to the next track instead of the next artist. While this may seem minor, when you are driving and trying skip a song you don't like, a 30 second wait is a huge pain. Next time you are channel surfing on your radio while driving, try waiting 30 seconds on a song/station you don't want to listen to. It will seem like forever. The wait time could be different depending on whether you have more or less music on you iPod. I have about 250 albums on mine. Tooki: For the most part, the Tooki works very well. It didn't download the phonebook when I paired it with my BlackJack phone but it works with my iPhone and my wife's Razr. The only real issue, and this is a big one, it only grabs one number for a particular contact. This is sooooooo annoying! For example, if I have a home number, work number, and a cell number for a particular contact, the phonebook only gets one of the numbers. This virtually makes the phonebook feature worthless in my opinion. If I can't use the phonebook to locate/dial the number I need, what good is it? Also, you cannot add/edit your contacts via the PCM2 unit but this is not a big deal IMO. In short, the units DO allow you to listen to an iPod and use a cell phone via the PCM2 but they are in no way integrated in a way that makes them work as if they were OEM. The Tooki unit is close but not all of the way there. The Dension unit in particular is very awkward and unituitive. There is no way someone could just pick it up and figure out how to use it to do what they want without much trial and error and confusion.
  6. Had the Dension in another car (a 987S) and it was "ok" for iPod use. I found the user interface clunky, but I have no proof that the Nav-TV would be any different. The bluetooth module to the Dension was crap, though. It treated a call as though it were a CD playing. You had to switch modes to CD changer mode to answer. Very bizarre. tmc That's interesting. What type of clunkiness specifically? I still have 10 days until my install date. Is there a specific question I should ask my installer about? I was originally going to have the Nav-TV unit installed but my installer has installed both and insisted the Dension was the better unit. I made him a list of everything I wanted (like OEM look/feel, Search by artist/track/album, charges the iPod, powers it off, etc) and he says it does it all and more so I went with the Dension. I have seen screenshots online of how the browsing looks and from what i can tell it is just like browsing the CD changer. I think that is about the only feature I'll be using regularly and from what I can tell it doesn't SEEM to be any clunkier than the PCM already is. We'll see. I also just found this which leads me to believe I made the right choice. USB updates are a huge plus.Nav-TV vs Dension
  7. I had my installer order the Tooki last week along with the Dension Gateway 500 for my iPod. The Dension aparently does everything the Nav-TV product (OPi-P) does and more. Most importantly to me - it is updatable via a USB memory stick rather that having to replace the hardware. That sold me. Thanks for including the price you paid for the Tooki because that is what I had to pay too and I thought I might be getting over charged for it. I too will share my experience once it comes in and is installed.
  8. JFR0317 - I have to tell you that you have been, by far, the most informative resource on this subject out of anyone I have had communications with, including the guys from Nav-TV. I am definately going to get this setup installed the minute it is available. I have been trying to prepare my local installer in advance so I can get an accurate quote for labor. BTW - They are called Benchmark Motoring in Bellevue, WA and were recommended by my Porsche Dealer. So far, they have been great about researching and getting back to me. Anyway, to the point, am I a little confused and perhaps not understanding you correctly. Based on you last post, it sounds like you're saying that since I have the Premium Bose system I already have a microphone in my car even though I do not have the phone module option? In other words, I will not need to have the mic that comes with the Tooki kit installed and can use the mic for the Bose system?
  9. This is a funny thread but I couldn't agree more. In the 8 years I owned my Harley (which I sold to help pay for my 997) I can't remember a single time I passed another guy/gal on a harley and didn't exchange a wave. I felt like even though we knew nothing about the other person and may not have had one other thing in common, we understood that we shared a passion for what we were driving/riding and that we were part of larger group of enthusists than just the two of us. I have trouble believing anyone could buy a Porsche and not feel a little enthusiasm or passion about it. Personally, I really enjoyed my Harley but nowhere near how much goodness I feel about my Porsche. So wave on people! We share this appreciation and should not be affraid to show it!
  10. First, thanks for the post. This is the solution for two of three of the upgrades I want to make to my 997. I just got a 2006 997 without the Phone module and I have been searching for a bluetooth solution (since the dealer wants $1800+installation for the OEM Phone Module - does $2k+ for a cell phone seem rediculous to anyone else?) Anyway, this looks like exactly the solution I am looking for since I have also been looking into a solution for an integrated iPod. I have 2 questions: 1. Where does the phone mic come from? Does the bluetooth adapter come with one that needs to be installed or does the car already have one wired that doesn't work until you install the Phone Module (or this bluetooth solution)? 2. What Nav-Tv model number do I need? Thanks in advance.
