  1. My firend just got his 2004 Cayenne S back from the body shop last nigh after someone hit it while his wife was driving it several weeks ago. His wife went out to drive it a few hours ago. She put the key in the ignition, the various lights came on and then went out immediately. The key is locked in place. Seems like a battery issue or an ignition switch issue. Is this a normal response from a weak or dead battery? Or, is there some other possible cause. Because the ignition switch will not turn, he can't even get the vehicle into neutral to push it out of the garage. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, in advance.
  2. You might have the "rain sensor" option. In that case, the thumb wheel only affects the sensitivity to water on the windshield and adjusts the intervals accordingly. Page 111 of the 03 Boxster owner's manual describes the use of wipers with the "rain sensor" option. Try spraying water from a hose on the windshield with the car running and wipers turned on. Might save buying a new relay.
  3. I owned a 2000 996 Coupe for 7 years without any issues. Just did routine maintenance. It was a great car and tons of fun. Honestly, of the 7 or 8 p-cars I've owned, there have been NO major issues that I had to address. Find the right one, make a commitment and enjoy! Randall
  4. I'll try that when I get home Saturday. Thanks. Randall
  5. Swaybars seem solid and look as new. Took the car out with the top down and listened carefully. Noise seems to be channeled up through the opening where the driver's seat belt comes out of the area immediately behind the door. Something is definitely moving around. The noise does not change in any way relative to speed. The simple solution is to always drive fast enough for the wind and other noises to drown out this one. I'll keep trying to isolate it but if anyone has any other ideas, I'm open. My last resort will be to send it to the dealer to have a look. Thanks Randall Doine
  6. I guess that is also a possibility. I'll put it on the lift this morning and see what I can see. The strut, I assume, would be more difficult to isolate. Car has about 20K miles on it, but anything is possible. Thanks again Randall Doine
  7. Probably won't stop his smoking but will almost certainly reduce the littering!!
  8. Thanks Loren. I've looked at these TSB's. The creaking is coming from rearward of the driver's door so those don't apply. The noise seems to be coming from the area of the rear driver's side cabriolet window and the intake vent for the intercooler. I hate to pull that inner trim panel off but I may have no choice. I may also have to remove the vent housing (if I can figure out how to get it off) to see if there is something rubbing between it and the rest of the plenum going to the interncooler. Or, maybe I'm just nuts and will have to live with it. As always, thanks for your quick replies and help. Randall Doine
  9. For some time I have had what I can only describe as a creaking noise coming from the area behind the driver's door. Seems to be between the driver side rear seat inner panel and the outer skin of the car where the air inlet for the intercooler resides. It's almost as if two surfaces are rubbing together. I've thought about pulling that inner panel off or removing the rear wheel and inner liner to see if I can find something that is flexing over bumps, etc. But, if anyone else has already dealt with this issue it would be helpful to have a starting point. Over the past year or so, I've searched the forum for TSB's, etc. but have never found anything that deals with noises in this particular area. I'll appreciate any help. Randall Doine
  10. Interesting. I had a 2000 996 coupe with a three spoke steering wheel but it had a silver and black metal emblem embeded. I eventually changed it out to a colored crest because I thought it looked better.
  11. After research, I'm looking for instructions from the workshop manual section 6101-15 Adjusting Cabriolet Top. If anyone can help me find those instructions, I'd appreciate it.
  12. 2004 996TT Cab I know I have seen a post that describes how to adjust the cabriolet top where it meets the top of the windshield but all my searches have not resulted in finding that post. My top seems to be fitting slightly tighter on the passenger side causing the rubber strip to bulge out slightly. It is also causing the passenger side point of latching to rub and remove the black coloring. I'd like to release the tension on the passenger side by a small amount to stop the degrading of the latch point and to get the rubber to fit evenly across the top of the windshield. Any help on locating that procedure would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Loren: In a related topic you indicated that you checked a contributor's VIN and determined his 996TT was an X-50. My 2004 U.S. 996TT has a sticker under the front lid that indicates an X-50 option code but, I have never been able to find any other proof that the car was, in fact, an X-50. And, the car was not advertised as an X-50 when I purchased it in May of 2007 from a dealer. The VIN is WP0CB29944S675381. The printout that the dealer provided at the time of purchase did not note anything about X-50 either. Any thoughts?
  14. Thanks Chuck, I'm sure I'll enjoy the site. Randall
  15. Thanks Loren, you're correct. I read the VIN off the useless Certificate of Authenticity when I posed my question. Buying the Certificate of Authenticity was a waste of money. The correct VIN is WP0CB29944S675381. The Certificate of Authenticity is missing a 9 in the sequence. I've looked at the codes on the sticker and used the "lookup" and some of the listings do not make sense. That's why I'm asking for, perhaps, some better information. For instance, the sticker indicates a code for X50. But, the car was not sold to me as an X50. And, the codes indicate that I should have leather surrounding the ignition key. There are a few others that just make me wonder if there isn't a better source for the information. The VIN on the sticker matches the car so I've ruled out the hood being changed out as a result of damage. I just completed my contribution. I'd appreciate any additional help you can provide.
  16. This is the eighth Porsche I've owned and it is the first time I have had difficulty really figuring out the options on one of these cars. The car is US spec. The information I've received from the dealer and PCNA is not very helpful. Can anyone tell me how to identify the options, as delivered, on VIN WP0CB2944S675381? I can read the tag beneath the front lid but that has not really been very helpful. Thanks, in advance.
