have the original Gene Perez body shop on Florida ave have a look at it. they aren't cheap but they have always been excellent
-
does your brake lights work? sounds like you shift interlock started the problem.
what does the display in the cluster say? won't start unless in P or N
-
the drains on either side of the cowl area, they are probably clogged and not letting the water drain. it is getting in to the ventilation system and dripping in to the cabin
-
and it sounds sooooo gooooood :clapping:
-
the flywheel teth passing by the speed and reference sensor makes an AC voltage that tells the DME rpm and tdc location. a damaged tdc pin will cause a lower voltage = running problem.
also check the ground strap from the front of the tranny to the body
-
any clutch work before this popped up? possible flywheel teeth damage
-
the motors are replaced because the hole they go in to is not round. there is a technical bulletin that has you use a special tool to check the roundness of the seal hole. if it isn't round it will never seal, so porsche replaces the motor. any one who is familiar with the water cooled cars are used to engine replacement, so it will not hurt the value. if anything knowing that the original motor was checked and found defective and replaced with a factory fresh piece should ADD value to the car.

If you check your owners manual you will see that this is "normal" oil usage, has been for years for flat motors
-
R Fischer Motors in Barrington has a Baum tools scanner with Porsche software, this will turn the light out also
-
88 911 will not give codes. this sounds like the check valve in the fuel pump is weak, that is is the engine is not belching black smoke. the black smoke would be more the head temp sensor. you need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to check to monitor it during cranking.
-
The Baum scanner will also read those other systems, and give the factory codes
-
I have been lucky enough to see the new Bentley Boxster manual. as usual an excellent job, I highly reccomend it when it is released
-
the tires yes but get a battery maintainer. it will cycle off and on and keep the battery active. most trickle chargers will keep charging and boil the battery
-
if the door panels have been off a lot the holes in the door may be hogged out. an oversize screw may be in order
-
I can't think of the control unit you are talking about. does it have any numbers on it?
-
no prevention, usually on cold starts when it has been sitting. if any one makes a comment say that only a true performance car does that
-
you need to see if all the clips are on the panel that should be, also that all the screws are installed. where is it loose?
-
age old problem for 911s , it is a horizontally opposed engine and oil will get past the rings and burn off causing the smoke
-
with PSM when doing alignments you are supposed to recalibrate the steering wheel sensor-with the factory tool- but the guys at the dealer set the steering wheel sensor to zero and align the car from there. The Baum Tool works that way, set the steering wheel sensor to zero, lock down the steering wheel, then align the car. this puts the car square. but this is for cars with PSM only
-
where is your cell phone? if it is in the tray under/over/near the radio you will get this
-
the seat belt buckles have been a problem since day one, if you can do it your self baum Tools has a scanner that will clear the lights
-
common problem on 97 and 98s when you fix it use the updated parts, I've seen them rip the mounting sheetmetal
-
it could be the seatbelts or the door airbag did not get connected correctly and is loose. Obd II readers will do check engine only, the factory scanner or the Baum Tools scanner is needed to reset airbag lights, ABS light etc
-
The Baum Tools scanner with the Porsche software will read the engine tiptronic, airbag and abs brakes

those stone guards are a pain in the butt. get some glue removing solvent and plastic razor blades. time and patience is needed or you will screw up the paint.
