  1. I currently have a choice of 2002 38k miles CPO (silver) $70k or 2002 16k miles no warantee (black) $63.5k. The options are similar and have every intention of having the non-warrantee car inspected. The CPO car's price seems a little steep to me. What would you do?
  2. Actuation effort appears to get higher as it wears, calibrated foot? I had mine done at 33k mls, I believe it could have waited until slip was evident. What is going to happen if one waits until it is slipping?
  3. I had a very similar issue, no errors and no top end (nail it at high RPM, no kick in the back). It turned out to be a CAT that disintegrated and plugged up. Associated symptoms were a rattle from the exhaust (not everyone gets that). I have a suspicion mine was as a result of tracking at Sebring FL, a notoriously rough track. Maybe I'm getting more obsessive about these replies since people keep on saying it's not very common. Good Luck!
  4. Happened to me on an '02 C4S, the Cat fell apart, I thought it was a bracket too (welds break in the exhaust tail pipes) http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...pic=544&hl=
  5. Guys, Mine turned out to be a bad CAT on bank 2, it was noisy and the internal parts had come loose plugging the flow. I've gained back a whole bunch of power at the top end, and I have a beautiful sound back from the exhaust. Incidentally it was a battle with the dealer to get it covered under EPA mandate warranty (8yrs, 75k). The excuse was my car is "modified", It has GHL headers and exhaust. If it had a Porsche sport exhaust they said it would be no problem. My local shop went to bat for me (Foreign Affairs, Pompano Beach FL) told them it's baloney, went to PCNA. Bottom line, they paid.
  6. I think the plating is coming off the nail, revealing a different metal
  7. Guys, Does anyone know if we get extended coverage on the CATs in Florida? Some background to the question; I have a 2002 C4S 38k miles. A couple of months back I noticed an annoying rattle from the exhaust, louder when cold. I haven't been able isolate the source but believe the sound is internal. Around the same time the DME threw up a P0430 error "cat system below threshold". I reset it and it returned a month later, reset again and I haven't seen it since. I wondered if the two could be related? A couple of days ago I pulled out of a junction and gave the car full throttle around 4k rpm. The car didn't have the urgency I have come to expect at the top end, almost like the PSM was kicking in. Trying the same exercise in a straight line 2nd gear, dry road the same lack of "pull" at the top end. Losing performance and not just a rattle I cannot live with :cursing: There are currently no check engine lights and the car goes well otherwise besides full throttle at the top end. I still notice the cam transition around 3k so believe the variocam still functions ok. Any Ideas, would a faulty O2 sensor cause my performance issue and not kick out an error?
  8. Josefiii, What did your issue turn out to be? Coincidentally I have an exhaust rattle (nothing external) and had a check engine light PO430 "CAT system below threshold"
  9. I've been using my '02 car daily for a couple of years and it is very civil for a manual performance car. I track it every couple of months and replace the oil (appx 9qts synthetic) every 3k, along with brake fluid yearly. I have 38k miles on the vehicle and early engine problems can happen. The intermediate shaft broke at 18k for the previous owner (I purchased at 19k with a fresh engine), although this appears to be uncommon. Many people have had rear main seal leaks although I've never seen these on my car. I get around 18.5 mpg for my 15 mile blast to work, around 23mpg on a long run. Besides the early engine failure the car has had very few issues otherwise. I believe these cars like being run hard, they get unhappy spending too much time in a garage :D
  10. SecureCare+ and I added the emissions coverage. I understand the odds are usually in their favor but I like to have the peace of mind. I'm not doing bad so far after the flywheel change. I had a "check engine" light come up last week, a PO431 which I reset myself. If it returns I'm confident WD will pay for remedials on that too, unless this is an original warrantee covered part (CAT converter?).
  11. I have a WD policy on my '02 911. I had my car in for a new clutch, they paid for a new flywheel and labor when my mechanic found issues with the flywheel. Took some work on behalf of the shop to convince them the flywheel is a part of the engine, bottom line they paid. Saved me >$2k, although they wouldn't pay the shop's full service rate the difference amounted to $3-400.
  12. Is that the only code? or are there more? What are the O2 sensors voltages and do they vary or are they always the same? See the graphs below... TWC - OK TWC - NOT OK Loren, Did you get these waveforms using the Car Code software (can you)? Mehmet
  13. An alternative I've seen installed locally. Uses a separate oil supply from the engine & an Eaton supercharger + a piggy back ECU. http://www.tpcracing.us/products/superchar...harger_kit.html
  14. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7577&hl= I installed a GHL system (header and exhaust), I'm still very happy.
  15. Guys, Is this an actual modified oilpan & what are the changes? Seems like a cheap mod if it helps with a real issue. Thanks!
  16. Congratulations on your purchase! I had a very similar experience to this with miss-matched front & rears. The 911 is a very "transparent" vehicle which will telegraph issues with tires and alignment. Recommend get a matching set of tires & have the car aligned, there are a number of great tires out there for the 911, do a search on the board. Are the Continentals Contact 2's, Porsche have a list of recommended tires with an "N" designation. Our gracious host Loren has a list posted on the site.
  17. I have an 02 C4S, love the looks of the wide body. The car feels very balanced with the AWD, I find it a blast to drive. It's nice to have the PSM safety net in the background when you run out of talent :o I took care of "viceral" with a GHL exhaust system, it growls appropriately now.
  18. I tried them, went to Michelins after 6 weeks. My car is a daily driver, wet grip isn't too good , I found that both Michelin & Pirellis (OE) felt more "planted" at speed (>80). New tires always seem to to be quieter, although I must admit the Pirellis were really noisy toward the end of their life. Car & Driver had the MX ranked 8th out of 10 performance tires if I'm not mistaken. http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?se...rticle_id=10252
  19. I hear Fabspeed makes a muffler for the Prius too... :jump:
  20. Guess there aren't many P-Cars in KC? Well you're special! Maybe you can get them done via UPS? I know it sounds silly but Tire Rack supplies wheels with tires fitted. Maybe if you purchase the tires from them they could provide a return service?
  21. Not cheap, but well put together it looks great. I paid just under $2.2k installed, although the header I purchased used, figure on another $600 purchasing new. You can purchase the system directly from GHL (http://www.ghlmotorsports.com/), I got mine through Foreign Affairs in Pompano Beach FL, they recommended & installed the system. They quoted a potential gain of 12-15 HP, I certainly feel some gain a. Can't honestly say it "deep rumbles" at idle, like a tuned 5.0 'stang, but it does sound like a race car when you start pushing it, no it doesn't drown out the stereo. It has a "Jekyll & Hyde" personality though which suits me fine as my daily user, it suits my moods and driving. I find an open road at the end of the day, "there is no substitute". I recommend auditioning any system before you purchase if you get the chance. Where are you based?
  22. Test terminated Dec 23rd, I couldn't get used to the comparative lack of grip (particularly in the wet) versus the Michelin Pilots. Back to the Michelins and the car is behaving the way it used to, gripping way beyond my bravery to test.
