  1. You will have to go to the factory. The 1965-1967 Porsche 911 had consecutive Vin's starting at 300001. The S was first made in 1967 and is only shown on the engine number (96XXXX).
  2. Source: Sports Car Market price guide. 993 Porsche made 46,919 911s from 1995-1998. The five Carrera variants are shown to have about the same values. The The two Carrera S models show a $4K premium while the Twin Turbo is double, and the Turbo S is a triple of value (180 made). The basic Carrera models (#2 condition): Jan. 2008 $28,000-$45,000 Jan. 2007 $28,000-$45,000 Jan. 2006 $28,000-$45,000 Jan. 2005 $31,000-$49,000 Jan. 2004 $31,000-$49,000 It seems to me that the price of a 993 has stabilized. Sports Car Market does not consider prices on eBay (nor do I believe it for one second). They base their price guide on verified sales.
  3. Unfortunately, she had talked to her mechanic who told her it was worth $24K. He didn't want to buy it but wanted to keep working on it (I guess). The car had every receipt since she bought it (no proof of the fuel line system fix). It was in excellent shape, but she was unable to explain a few modifications that had been done before she bought it. I thought it was a poor (or fake) EPA/DOT modification. However, the car drove very nicely. It was very tight and the engine seemed very strong. It had a non-original whale tail on it. Her price was just unreasonable for a RoW car.
  4. Congrats to Jen and John. IM is a big player and can help with back office support. I doubt any user will notice the change. The internet is the new media. Ten years ago I spent a very small amount of time each week on the internet (remember dial-up connections?) and a few hours on another media outlet: Television. I now spend very little time each week watching television and many hours on the internet.
  5. I wish I knew the exact years. I am not sure exactly when they changed the amount of digits in the VIN. My car is a 1973 and has 10 numbers (no letters). I was also looking for a database on engine numbers. I did a search but couldn't find the exact information. I know my engine is not original to the car, but I can't determine what year it was from (although I assume it's from 1974-1977).
  6. Any tech on how one can find the VIN codes for an older car?
  7. I am looking at a 1985 Euro coupe (originally from Germany). It's black with ~60K miles. It's a sunroof car and has been owned by the second owner for 17 years. It hasn't been driven much in a few years (a red flag, IMO). According to the value guides that I've looked at, a U.S. version of the car is ~$16K-$18K. It seems to me that the Euro car is worth less. I just don't know how much less. Any opinions? Edit: Mileage was 60K. The paint and condition of the car was very nice. It seemed to have some (possibly fake) EPA/DOT modications.
