  1. I took my '00 C4 in for service last month and it was noted that part of the rear inside passenger side disk had rust on it. The rust was not on the surface but had eaten a small section of the disk away. Has anyone heard of this happening before? The car is Porsche certified but Porsche is claiming the disk is a normal wear and tear item and won't replace it under warranty. The mechanic has a great reputation and tells me I'm only losing about 5-10% braking. he says that I can drive it like this for now and make the change after the pads wear down. They suggest replacing both rotors at the same time. Cost, around 1k. Does this sound right? Any advice on what I should do? Thanks. Pat
  2. I went to the dealer today. They ended up replacing both lower control arms under warranty. Saved me $1,500. Nice!
  3. There is a plastic piece that hangs down in front of each of the front tires on my 996. I 'm pretty certain that they're there to improve the aerodynamics around the tires. The piece connects to the car body with three screws. I'm trying to find out what they're called, the part number, and roughly what they cost to replace. Can anyone help?
  4. There's an occasional groaning sound coming from the front passenger wheel well. I think it's the suspension because when I pushed down on the fender the car emits a groan sounding. Is it the shock absorber or maybe the sway bar? Do I need to bring it to the dealer? I was wondered what you guys thought it might be. Thanks in advance. Pat
  5. I have a Certified Pre-owned car, 2000 996 C4. I've read alot of threads about people lower the ride height of their cars. I'm starting to think that my car has been lowered too. I looked in the front wheel well and saw what looks like a pink/orange dot and a blue dot on the spring. Is that the standard configuration for a 2000 C4? I checked the option list and nothing came up indicating a different suspension. The car only has 30k miles. I bought it with 11k and the ride height appears to be the same as when I bought it. Do the dots on the spring indicate a different suspension? How can I tell for sure? Thanks for the help.
  6. How easy is it to adjust the parking brake. Mine is a little loose. Does anyone have instructions? Thanks in advance. Pat
  7. I have a 2000 C4 with stock leather shifter. I pulled up the boot portion and was prepared to used my allen wrench to loosen the shift knob when I came upon a surprise. There's no screw! The shifter handle comes down to the leather boot and that it, there's nothing else holding the shift knob on. I tried pulling up on the handle and it moved just a bit. How do I remove the shift knob from the lever? Pull up? Please let me know, I've got this Carbon Fiber Aluminum shift knob that's just dying to be installed. Thanks in advance. Pat
  8. What size wheels and tires can I install in my car with no problems. I've read many different opinions and now I'm confused. It apprears that Porsche makes wheels in many different sizes and offsets. I'm just looking for some wheels and tires that I can put on and go. Can anyone help? I currently have 18 x 8 et 52(front) and 18 x 10 et 65(rear) SportDesigns on my car. The car is a 2000 narrowbody 996 C4. Will these wheels and tires fit or do I have to do something special? Porsche Turbo Twist II's 18x8 et 50(front) & 18x11 et 45(rear) Continential SportContact 2 - 225/40/18(front) & 295/30/18(rear) P #s: 996.362.136.01 and 996.362.142.01( I think these are the correct #'s) If not, what sizes and offsets will work? Thanks so much!! Pat
  9. I bought me '00 C4 used with 11,500 miles from a Porsche dealer. The car is certified. I now have about 17.5k miles. I understand that the brake fluid, oil and filters are all replaced as part of the certification process. Can anyone confirm this? If so, I now have about 6k miles of use on this oil change. Should I get a 15k service, with or without the oil change, or should I just wait until I get to 15k oil change interval? Can Porsche claim that lack of proper service voids the warranty? You know some Porsche dealers. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Pat
  10. Loren, Pardon my ignorance but what is cosmoline? I'll check the valve covers. Thanks for all your help. P
  11. Every time I park the car in the garage after a drive I smell oil. I can only describe it as oil that's leaked onto an exhaust manifold. It doesn't matter if I've driven the car hard or not. I've checked for leaks and found nothing. No drops on the floor anywhere. Yes, I checked that too, no RMS issue thank goodness. The digital oil gauge has only gone down one bar in the past 4500 miles. Before I bring the car into the dealer I was hoping someone might have an idea what the cause is. What do you think? Thanks in advance for your help. Pat
  12. I just broke the support bracket for the drivers footwell light. I have a 2000 996. I called the dealership and they can't find the part. Could someone please give me the part number? Thanks. Pat PS Would that be a warranty item? Just thought I'd ask.
  13. Loren, I bought into the hype too and got the caps but I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing and not screwing-up the car. Give me some good fatherly advice. Would you advise installing the orange cap or not? If so, would you put the plug into the "box" or the tube? I'm not sure which way the airflow is going. As a result I want to make sure to put the cap on where is won't move. On another note, hanks for all your help. It's great to know that there is someone that you can trust to give you sound advice. Have a Merry Chirstmas and a Happy New Year, or other significant religious holiday. Just want to be PC. Regards, Pat
  14. Sorry, one question. What gauge wire did you use?
  15. Thanks Poursha. Looks like I've got something to do before football tomorrow. Pat
  16. Poursha, I have a 2000 C4. I also have an interior lighting switch between the PSM and spoiler switch. Probably better to run it from the interior lighting switch, agreed? Please let me know how you did. Thanks so much. Pat
  17. I added a spoiler switch to the dash. The switch doesn't illuminate when the car's lights are turned on. What do I need to do to have the switch light up when the car's headlights are turned on? There are a total of 5 connectors in the back of the switch. Currently only three are being used. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Pat
  18. I have a '00 C4 and would like to know if the in-dash cup holder from the '02's can replace the 4 CD holder in the console. Has anyone done it, can it be done? One footnote, I have DSP in the bottom most position in the console. If not, is there another place the cup holders can go? And, does it require much work? Thanks in advance for your advice. Pat
  19. Don, With all the mods that you've done to your car there's no "upgrading" left!! You're my hero, because of you and others I've been bitten by the mod bug. It's highly contagious. Pat
  20. Toolpants(Jeff?), Are the B&M instructions the way to go? Does the Porsche shifter feel any different compared to the B&M? And thanks, you just saved me a couple of bucks. Pat
  21. Thanks guys. That was easy. Now I'm thinking of replacing the ash tray with the ash tray delete option. How hard is that? Looks like a couple of screws and that's it, am I right?
  22. I just purchased a storage bin to replace the 4 CD holder. Can anyone provide me with instuctions on how to remove and replace? Thanks.
