  1. Thanks. What do I torque down the bolts for the alternator? Also, what should the bolts for the rollers be torqued at? I'm almost there.
  2. Ahsai, you mean 9.0 in/lb, right? Also, do I add 100% coolant, or mix 50/50 blend? The link you posted to Pelican didn't say either way. Thanks!!
  3. Thanks for the assistance. New part and gasket coming in. A couple of questions? How do I drain the coolant? If so, does it need a new crush washer? Do I need to apply something like gasket sealer? What do I torque the bolts at for the bracket(on the left side) and the roller bolt holding(right side) of the alternator?
  4. I was driving my car the other day and the check engine light went on. Today I drove to an auto parts store to read the error codes, P0410 & P1411. Error codes related to emissions and cold starts. Long story short, driving home I hear an odd squeaking noise, pull into the garage and see this. A bracket holding the alternator broke, shredding my serpentine belt and possibly trashing my engine. Does anyone know the part number of the broken bracket? Is this a DIY replacement? Also, if I remove the screws hold the bracket to the engine case will coolant or oil come out? Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. I never found them. Got new ones. Put eveything back together and started it up. No funny sounds, running perfectly. Happy my baby is back on the road. They'll fall out eventually I guess. Thanks guys.
  6. I dropped two bolts(hex bolts 6,0 x16) that connect a vaccuum tub and bracket to the upper left intake plenum. They banged around but didn't fall onto the ground. I looked everywhere inside the engine and can't find them. Removed the serpantine belt during the search to locate the bolts. I used a magnetic grabber in all the nooks and cranny but still can't find either one. And no, they aren't under the car. Has this happened to anyone else before? Is there a secret compartment somewhere? Will I do any damage if I run the car? Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  7. I replaced a burnt bulb in my front headlight today with no problem. I'm all proud of my my non-mechanic ways and go to close the hood. For some reason the hood won't lock into place. It just stays in the unlock position no matter how hard I push. Does anybody have any suggestions on what the problem could be and how to remedy it? Thanks in advance for any assitance you can provide on how to fix my problem.
  8. I recently replaced my stock shifter with a Porsche SSK. Everything appeared to be fine. Just the other day someone told me that my reverse lights weren't coming on. I did a search on the renntech and checked the fuse as suggested, working fine. Another post mentioned replacing the reverse switch by the tranny. Before I do that I want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything else. Could there be something that I need to check with or around the shifter itself? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  9. The 997's all have clear/smoked 3rd brake lights. I don't know if the ones being offered are OEM or aftermarket.
  10. I'm interested in purchasing the clear/smoked LED 3rd brake light for my 2000 911. I know the light will fit within the recessed area of the car but will it also fit within the retractable spoiler? Are the brake lights both the same size or different? I'd like to replace both but want to make sure prior to ordering. Thanks in advance for your reply.
  11. I must have the only car where the original owner ordered optional leather sunvisors instead of vinyl. What do you think I can use to remove the warning label without damaging the leather? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  12. Checked the fuse, it was blown. Had a spare below. Thanks guys. pat
  13. My cigarette lighter is dead. I searched the site but I couldn't determine which fuse is assigned to the lighter. Can someone please tell me what number it is? I read about the horrors of replacing the lighter and hope it's just the fuse. Please let me know. Thanks in advance. Pat
  14. I let me car sit for the past two days and I notice windshield wiper fluid on my garage floor. It appears to be coming from the drivers side where the front undertray ends. If you were looking at the car in side profile view the leak is before the front wheel. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Does is have something to do with the front headlight washer? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. PS I'll try to post photos tomorrow.
  15. Brian, Got it to work, thanks. Wross, When are you going to start modding that baby of yours? Couldn't resist.
  16. Thanks. I definitely didn't put the spring in correctly. I have the longer spring under the silver plate with one screw on each end. The small end of the spring is sitting in the recessed area behind and below the hinge. Where should it actually be? Sorry to be a pain in the *** but I want it to work properly.
  17. I did all this. I studied the picture with the spring position quit closely. What I recall what that the cover floated/levitated when the release button was pressed. Now, I have to lift the cover even after I've pressed the release button. Is that the way it should be? Thanks in advance.
  18. I recently replaced my armrest because it was broken. I think I might have installed the spring incorrectly because the door doesn't stay up when the release button is pushed. Can someone tell me if the door is supposed to stay up? If so, can you please tell me the proper placement for the spring? Thanks in advance. Pat
  19. Yeah, I'm sure. The sound is coming from the steering column inside the passenger compartment when you turn the wheel. Road surface and speed have nothing to do with the groan. I'll try to do a video of it if I can. Any thoughts?
  20. I have a 2000 C4 that I drive year round. Lately there has been a groaning sound coming from my steering column between the steering wheel and instrument cluster. It usually happens when I turn the wheel in the morning. After about 5 minutes it goes away. The same thing happens when I start to drive home from work at the end of the day. It sounds like the steering wheel itself needs to be oiled or greased. It's not the power steering for sure. Can anybody offer up a solution to the problem? Is it something I can do, or, does the dealer have to service it? Thanks. Pat
  21. I've got a 2000 C4 that I bought used. To the best of my knowledge the battery is original. I haven't looked to see what the battery date stamp is. Winter is coming soon to Michigan and I want to make sure I don't get stranded anytime soon. At this time the battery is working fine. Can anyone offer advise on checking fluid levels? If low, what do you use to refill, distilled water? How much, to the top? Please excuse my ignorance. Thanks in advance. Pat
  22. Thanks for the comments guys. It's not that I don't want to do it myself but I feel that Porsche should cover this under warranty. The car was bought Porsche certified and is still within warranty. The car is my daily driver so it doesn't sit for long periods when rust has a chance to eat away at the rotor. I saw the rotor and it certainly has a portion that has been eaten by rust. I'll try to take some pictures. It seems very strange to see a problem like this. Especially since this is a major safe item on the car.
  23. Let me clarify that would include pads, sensors and labor. I agree with you, 1k sounds expensive. What do you think the price range should be? Pat
