  1. The left-right asymmetry has always made me wonder. Wouldn't it have been easy to make the right one look the same as the left even if it's not functionally required?
  2. Can anyone tell me why the two side air vents on Boxster S's (just behind the door) look different?
  3. About three months ago I had my 02 986 S inspected at my local Porsche dealer. I was told that the rubber boots around the rear axles were broken, but since it was an expensive and tedious fix I could wait. Yesterday I took the car in for a different reason, but was told that the free inspection revealed that the axles were contaminated because of the broken rubber boots and needed to be replaced, on both sides, with a price tag in the thousands. Can anyone comment on this? I'm clueless!
  4. Pretty much all the way around, and much more pronounced with the windows down. My local Porsche dealer tells me it's the all-season tires. His explanation is that the tire compound on the vertical walls is designed to start sounding loud in 8000-10000 miles. I don't know if it applies to high perf summer tires as well. What's your take?
  5. The Goodyear F1 All Season tires on my 02 S have recently developed pretty nasty road noise. They have about 8000 miles on them and are not showing excessive wear, but the noise is so loud it's almost a roar. The tires are standard sizes for the S. Has anyone had any experience similar to this? Anything I can do?
  6. Thanks, I will try this myself and hope it's not what Loren prescribed! I have a 1997 BMW 328is as well...black on black, 128k miles and still going strong. Cheers, W. I bet! They're fantastic car's. I traded in my 328is with 112k miles and it still ran like it was new. Mine was white on tan with a 5-speed and the wood trim. I traded it in for a 1997 M3 (white on dove). :jump: Also a fantastic car. This is the stuff that I used: Im sure any brand would work though. It probably doesn't even have to be silicone based either. WD-40 would probably work well also. I still haven't gotten my hands on a can of spray lubricant, but I just found a thread on this topic in the 986 DIY section, with the title "Clutch Pedal Squeak", where the writer seems to agree with Loren's diagnosis. Check it out. Cheers, W.

  8. Lately the clutch on my 2002 Boxster S has been squeaky when it's operated. Initially I thought it was just the spring needing a little grease, but lubrication at the dealer didn't alleviate the problem. At a recent inspection the dealer told me that the noise came from within the tranny. The noise only occurs when I operate the clutch pedal, but it's quite loud and in fact can be heard by people standing nearby. Other than that, the clutch works just fine and I have no problem shifting up or down. Any ideas, anyone?
