  1. Just had the car in and here is what was done as per the invoice: Expansion Valve Removed + Reinstalled 996-573-929-01 EXPANSION VALVE Can't say for sure that this fixed the problem as it was intermittent, but so far so good.
  2. I believe they determined it was an expansion valve in the AC system that needed to be replaced...or something with the AC system. The didn't have the part in stock.
  3. Yeah, that one had a lot of compression artifacts. I cleared up some space and here's the same sound with much less compression. If you have a broadband connection it'll be small enough, but dial-up won't be worth the bother as there is still a lot of ambient noise. 1.2mb file. http://www.geocities.com/pcarsound/ Okay...good news? I finally got my wife to stand outside the car and listen while it happened. She swears the noise is definitely from the front of the car.
  4. http://www.geocities.com/pcarsound/ (Edit: Changed file location to geocities - limited bandwidth) Been narrowing this down over the past couple weeks. The car is a 2001 C2, 6 speed. The noise seems to occur when restarting the car after it's been driven, then parked for 15-20 minutes. As such, the sound usually occurs when I'm backing out, and it seems to occur more often than not just as I start to turn the wheel, but has occured once while just sitting in a parking space. The link above is an .mp3 of my car being backed out of the garage. The sound occurs at 0:15 just as I started angling into my driveway. The sound also occurs at the very end of the file, just after I turn the car off (never did that except this one time). The car is going in on Wednesday, but I'm sure it'll decide to behave then. btw...it's a poorly recorded, highly compressed .mp3. :)
